A charming 'chocolate box' cottage with a beautiful walled garden, located in a superb location in this pretty village. Near a great local inn, tea rooms and a boating lake, the beach and attractions of Whitby are a short drive or c. 20 minute walk, this Grade II Listed period cottage was built in 1605 and has been well decorated and thoughtfully equipped, with the advantage of private parking - it's an idyllic spot for a perfect holiday for a family or three couples.

Lovely cosy cottage excellent base for exploring Whitby and the East Coast

Great Pub and Butchers in the village. We have had an amazing time with our family and we will be back soon.

Enter this pretty cottage into a hallway from which leads an elegant sitting room with comfortable sofas, a lovely open fire - perfect for chilly evenings! - TV and separate Blu-Ray player.

There's a digital radio plus a library of books and DVDS plus games for guests to enjoy during their stay. The cottage also has an Amazon Echo Dot to access Alexa, play music, etc.

There's a good size, farmhouse-style kitchen, which is well-equipped with an electric oven and hob, fridge with freezer box and a microwave plus a washing machine (an airer is available). Steps from the kitchen lead to the garden.

Ivy Cottage is located in the village of Ruswarp, opposite Ruswarp Hall, just a mile from the historic port of Whitby. Ruswarp is an idyllic and picturesque village situated on the banks of the river Esk; it boasts a great local inn but a renowned traditional butchers with a deli - people swear by their pork pies! The river is tidal to this point and seals swim up from the harbour and bask on the weir. Whilst as close to Whitby as Sandsend, the village is quiet and peaceful yet all the amenities, beach and the heritage of Whitby are just a five minute drive away.

Ivy Cottage is very traditional and it was lovely to be able to stay in a cottage that was decorated to reflect its era but also had all the facilities you need including a great power shower. It was in a good location for walking and public transport and was a brilliant base for us to visit the area.
Mrs Tuckwell
The parking is a problem especially unloading and loading as it’s a very busy road and if you have young children it’s quiet a distance so really it should be made quiet clear of this problem The cottage is dated with ornaments everywhere and this gives it an old fashion feel, so makes it difficult with small children not to touch things Because it sleeps up to 6, the kitchen is small and every cupboard is full and the fridge tiny, so not much room for food etc, there are 2 cupboards in the kitchen that are locked which could be used for more storage

This place is beautiful. Yes it’s not contemporary with the furnishings but it’s sympathetic to the property’s age and history. Comfortable for a family of 4 with teenage kids. Parking is about 2 mins walk down the road, secure, off road and whilst a little narrow it was fine for my discovery sport. Great location for exploring the local area , about 1.5 miles from Whitby and not far from the river and railway station. Great garden and we had a lovely stay.
Mr Frost
We loved the garden, it was quiet and private. The walk alongside the railway line to Whitby was easy and enjoyable for us and our dogs (who were well served with local adventures). The traffic noise outside the cottage was constant and loud and particularly impacted the front bedrooms. We felt that the cottage was very compact and far too small for the advertised six people. The parking was a long way away during the five trips needed to unload the car and carry everything uphill. Overall we felt the cottage was overpriced given its size and location.
Mr Bywood
Lovely cottage with beautiful garden. It was comfortable for 4 adults but a bit cosy for 6 adults in terms of the kitchen and bathroom facilities. Parking in the designated parking space was a bit tight for an estate car but there was plentiful on street parking. Yes, it’s on a busy road but that is clear when you book. Location is perfect for town and country. Would be happy to return.
