Vista Marina is a luxury, two-bedroom cottage, newly refurbished and decorated, located in the small hamlet of Cowbar, close to the picturesque fishing village of Staithes in the North York Moors National Park. Providing superb accommodation, this cottage has been lovingly restored by the owners with great attention to detail and includes a private enclosed garden with a lovely summer house.

Vista Marina is a beautiful cottage in an ideal location overlooking the sea, warm cosy, a well worth visit to the Cod and Lobster pub in Staithes located down a Steep track ( good food ) the summerhouse contained a set of ladders !! and that was all shame as it could be made very inviting, There is a notice advising clients to bag their rubbish and place outside the back door between 8 and 8

15am on Friday, we noticed all previous clients rubbish not bagged was put in the outside bin which we had to place in bags, not a pleasant job, but this was the only issue we had. We would definitely go back, wonderful. Thankyou.

STAITHES

Vista Marina is located in the village of Cowbar a short 3 minute walk from Staithes. The charming and sleepy seaside village of Staithes, with its cobbled streets and back alleys, is something of an artist’s dream. Its pretty houses and cottages are clustered around the old harbour and surrounded by high craggy cliffs on three sides, with a sheltered sandy beach set amongst the rocky coastline. The quaint cobbled streets lead you to lovely shops including a traditional butchers, general stores, gift emporium, tea rooms and of course, art galleries. At the top of the village is a Co-op which is well-stocked. The village can claim connections with Captain Cook who was apprenticed to a draper near the harbour. Nowadays, Staithes is a must for anyone visiting the Yorkshire Coast and has a good selection of pubs, shops and tea rooms. There are two inns in the village including the famous Cod and Lobster on the harbour-side. Staithes is still home to an RNLI lifeboat station and a small fleet of cobles (fishing boats) landing fish, crab and lobster, with boat trips for birdwatching, fishing and even whale watching available. It’s also the location of the popular BBC children’s TV series, Old Jack’s Boat. With a strong attraction for artists, Staithes hosts an annual Art and Heritage Festival plus there's galleries and artists studios with art courses and workshops regularly on offer. There’s a free Illusion Trail, which guides visitors around the network of ginnels (alleyways), with trail guides available locally. The best views of the town can be enjoyed from the Cleveland Way which runs down the cliff to the sea’s edge. Altogether a superb base for exploring the Yorkshire Coast, visiting the larger resorts of Whitby or Scarborough and enjoying the moorland villages of the North York Moors National Park.

The boiler broke leaving us without hot water 3 times

The communication from yourselves and sykes was very poor. On multiple occassions no-one called me back to let me know what was happening with the boiler. I am still waiting for a promised callback after 3rd breakdown a number of days ago. Extremely disappointed and frustrated with the holiday. One failure is understandable, a second is annoying and a third is unacceptable. On beach holiday with 2 children, to get home 3 times and find no hot water is beyond annoying. Looking to book next years holiday by end of September, presently unlikely to consider Sykes.

Thank you for a wonderful stay in a beautiful cottage. Staithes is so perfect and the Cod and Lobster in particular and the headland walk South. We enjoyed Sandsend beach and Runswick Bay beach. The kids enjoyed Alpamare Swimming Complex in Scarborough. Robin Hoods Bay was pretty for a short visit. The Moor National Park Centre at Danby was great to visit but avoid the lunch at Black Bull Ugthorpe! The kids also enjoyed Go Ape at Dalby Forest. Whitby was great too! Thanks again.
Mitchell Family - Glasgow
Staithes is a wonderful vacation spot. The cottage was quiet and cosy. We had a very nice time here. Thank you for the welcome gifts!

Imported from Guest Book - August 2019 stay. Runswick Bay fab - get there early to park down near the beach. Sweet shop in village amazing. Enjoyed the break! Experienced some issues with the boiler - fixed the next working day on each occasion but was a pain.
Langley Family
Imported from Guest Book - July 2019 stay. We can't believe how quickly two weeks have flown by. Our first visit to Yorkshire and we didn't know what to expect. We definitely weren't disappointed when we woke up after arriving late on Friday. The cottage and Staithes are fantastic. Even the weather has been generally kind! Loved Whitby, Saltburn, Runswick, Robin Hoods Bay and Danby. Off the beaten track we experienced Skinningrove and Port Mulgrave. Luckily we were here for the open gardens at Mulgrave Castle - beautiful! Had some maintenance issues at the cottage - which we reported, but for the next guests the socket for the dishwasher is faulty. Luckily we had brought an extension lead from home so we were able to get round that problem (to us a dishwasher is an essential not a luxury!) It would also be great to have a BBQ available. We have really loved our time at this cute little cottage. I'm sure we'll be back, not least to re-acquaint ourselves with the resident seagull, Sid, and his family. Thank you.
Lorna, Steve and Jack - Leicestershire
Imported from Guest Book - June 2019 stay. A lovely cottage, very comfortable and great location. We've had a very relaxing time walking, sight-seeing and completing a puzzle when weather was very wet. Thank you.
Janet and Sean - Surrey
Imported from Guest Book - June 2019 stay. We visit Staithes, Sandsend, Runswick 3 or 4 times a year. First time in Cowbar and this cottage though, love it! Well done on the quality and design of the refurb. Really well designed and thoughtful. We loved just walking down to Staithes for the Cod & Lobster and Dotty's tea rooms - Trudy and Dora her dog are fab and great scones!! Falling Foss is a great find. Great walks with the dog and the weather was kind which was an added bonus. We will be back, December I think. Hope the house will be trimmed up for Christmas!
Ali, Kev and Luna the lab!
Imported from Guest Book - June 2019 stay. Our second visit here and just as good as we remembered it. Thank you for the welcome pack. Digby enjoyed the Dogs Allowed part of Saltburn-by-the-Sea beach. The valley woodland walk was lovely. A good walk from Salterhouse car park over Levisham Moor and back via Hole of Horcum. We loved the walled garden at Helmsley - dog friendly - and so too was Ryedale Folk Museum - brilliant! On a rainy day the Museum and Art Gallery in Whitby is a great place to go. Warm, welcoming and so much to see. We enjoyed meals at Fox & Hounds, Dalehouse (no cards) and Spices - excellent service in Saltburn-by-the-Sea. Highlight of the week was seeing dolphins from the kitchen window whilst eating breakfast!!
Cathy, Chris & Digby the dog - Gloucestershire
Imported from Guest Book - June 2019 stay. Lovely home in a fantastic setting. Loved our stay here. We will come back September to enjoy it all over again. Thank you.
Mary & Millie
Imported from Guest Book - May 2019 stay. This is a first for us.......coming back to a holiday cottage for a second visit (we were here last July) but Vista Marina is perfect in every way. We did lots of walking which included catching the bus to Salburn and then walking back along The Cleveland Way taking in some very dramatic cliff views. Ate in the Cod and Lobster most nights as menu never disappoints. Love Staithes and love this cottage. Thank you.
Darren, Sarah and Katie with Shona the dog! - Cumbria
Wonderful in every way *5 Star. Hopefully back this year. What a find!
Rachel & Stephen - Lancashire

Imported from Guest Book - April 2019 stay. What a gorgeous cottage in a superb location. Have explored the Cleveland Way which was great walking from the doorstep with fantastic views. The Cod & Lobster is well worth a visit. Excellent beaches for the dogs at Runswick Bay and Skinningrove.
Steve, Sheelagh and dogs - Wendover
Imported from Guest Book - Feb 19 stay. We really have enjoyed our time spent here. Lovely cottage with decor to match. Very clean, excellent location. The only negative was that there was no gate at the rear for the dogs. All in all was brilliant!
Lisa and Dean Carr
Imported from Guest Book - January 2019 stay. Wow! We have had a fantastic few days in the cottage. We love Staithes but this place is a cut above the rest. Beautifully renovated with everything you could want or need. The views are amazing, so rare to find a place with space, parking and views in Staithes. We could not have asked for anything better. Fish and chips from the Excelsior at the top of the village are lovely. We looked at booking the same time next year but it is unavailable! Booo! We will be back though, thank you so much.
Tim, Angela, Katrina, Charlotte and Daisy the dog.
Imported from Guest Book - Christmas 2018 stay. We've had the most wonderful Christmas here in this gorgeous little house. So clean, warm and cosy - a real home from home. We absolutely love the position of the house and full appreciate all the love and care that has gone into making it so special. Staithes is a little gem and the Cod & Lobster made us feel so welcome with fish 'n' chips to die for! You seem to have thought of everything that could possibly be needed and thank you so much for the welcome pack. Our dogs have really benefited from all the lovely walks and the weather has been amazing, with sunshine every single day! Not bad for December! Thank you, thank you, thank you! We will most definitely be back!!
Dunsmore Party - Welford
Imported from Guest Book - 2018 stay. Top class cottage in a wonderful spot. This was a surprise break to celebrate by 60th birthday. Could not have been nicer! We will be coming back!
Sam & Liz - Ripon
Imported from Guest Book - September 2018 stay. Had a wonderful stay at the cottage, just as described online, very comfy and cosy, enjoyed our glass of wine in the evening with a lovely fire. Weather was good for our stay, except for the high winds at night. The Cod & Lobster is a great place to eat. Loved Saltburn-by-the-Sea but then we love Yorkshire entirely. Would love to return sometime and would recommend any time!
Schweitzer Pary - Germany
Imported from Guest Book - September 2018 stay. Lovely cottage - clean, nice and comfortable feel. Staithes made more special as our stay coincided with the Arts/Heritage Festival. Great coastal walks and lovely drives over the York Moors. The week has flown by - we would not hesitate to return!
Ali and Millie - Ribble Valey
Imported from Guest Book - September 2018 stay. Thank you for a great stay in your lovely clean cottage. The welcome pack was super and what a joy not to have to shop for basic essentials such as washing up liquid, dishwasher tablets and toiletries!! Good food at Cod & Lobster and a hearty breakfast at Runcible Spoon at Hinderwell, near Port Mulgrave - good home made scones too. Can recommend a walk around Scaling Dam Reservoir (1.5 hours) then a visit to The National Park Moors Centre at Danby, the gallery there is super.
Carolyn & John - Ilkley
Had a lovely week with pretty good weather on the whole. Fantastic location and enjoyed popping down to Staithes. Great atmosphere at Cod & Lobster and worth a visit. Enjoyed cliff top walk from Ravenscar to Robin Hood's Bay, Runswick Bay and Sandsend beaches and also the Alpamare Water Park. Unfortunately we experienced some boiler issues during our stay resulting in no hot water until resolved.
Lynsey Francis, Gregory & Theo Party - Manchester
Imported from Guest Book - Aug 18 stay. A lovely cottage in a lovely part of Staithes. Clean, tidy, well laid out and not overly fussy. Great layout, fantastic views and well equipped.
The Godfrey-Clarke Party
We have had a fabulous week in your beautiful cottage. Thank you. The weather was kind to us and we have enjoyed many local walks. We have appreciated that we were able to sit and eat outdoors. We ate at the Cod & Lobster (mixed reviews!), the Fox and Hounds and The George. We we walked up to The Captain Cook we found that it was cash only so didn't try it. Excellent meal at Estbeck House, Sandsend. Thanks for the welcome pack of goodies. Thai Coco & Rum at Saltburn good and plentiful.
The Swallows
Imported from Guest Book - August 2018 stay. Thank you for the welcome bag of goodies. We holiday in this area every year and never tire of finding things to do. We ate in the Cod & Lobster a couple of times and found the food to be very good and reasonably priced. Can recommend the mussels. This year we took the bus to Sandsend and walked back to Staithes along the coastal path. We also visited the Ryedale Folk Museum (very good) and Ormesby Hall (Middlesbrough). We had a beach day at Runswick Bay and Katie and Daddy went canoeing at Ruswarp. For any four legged visitors, the Fuzzy Dog Bakery, Flowergate, Whitby is a must. The lady who runs it is very friendly and dogs enjoy paws on the counter to try the samples. Vista Marina is a beautiful cottage (long may it stay that way) with lovely coastal views.
The Rogers Party - Cumbria
Imported from Guest Book - June 2018 stay. Very enjoyable stay - like a home from home. Great weather. Smashing views. Really good pubs providing good good food locally too. (Fox & Hounds, Dalehouse and Black Bull, Ugthorpe). Thanks again for a great holiday.
Glyn and Barbara Williams
Imported from the Guest Book - June 2018 stay. A very comfortable cottage - everything so clean - perfect. Thank you for the welcome pack. Staithes itself very friendly - both pubs good food. Great rock pools. Whitby Abbey - dog friendly and beach on the other side of the bridge. Sandsend - massive beach - most of which dog friendly. Circular walk around Scaling Reservoir - good for bird spotting. Circular walk (leaflet left in the Guest Folder) to Port Mulgrave, Runswick Bay, Hinderwell and Oakridge Woods. Took most of the day. Dalby Forest - great walk but £9 to park/drive through forest! Saw a barn owl and stoat on the way home. River Esk villages - beautiful scenery - stunning! We liked Lealholm in particular - Poets Corner garden/nursery just wonderful for plantaholics! A week went by so fast - we hope to return. Thank you.
Cathy, Chris and Digby the Cocker Spaniel - Gloucestershire
Imported from Guest Book - May 2018 stay. This cottage was perfect for our first family holiday - very baby friendly! We did lots of pram and sling walks along The Cleveland Way, Runswick Bay and Redcar beach (and into Staithes of course!) Would recommend The Barn Owl Tea Room just outside staithes. Amazing weather meant the terrace was lovely to enjoy.
Alice, Karl & Archie (11 weeks old)
Imported from Guest Book - May 2018 stay. Despite initial concerns about the steepness of the hill all was fine and no doubt fitter for it! Lovely cottage - especially the sun trap of a patio for breakfast!
Anne & Partner
Imported from Guest Book - April 2018 stay - Despite the weather we had a great week. Staithes is beautiful and especially enjoyed the warm welcome received in the Cod and Lobster, especially when we forgot to pay our bill! (We did go back and pay). The cottage has been lovely too. Thank you.

We have just stayed at the stunning Vista Marina near Staithes, an absolutely beautiful cottage, renovated to perfection with sea views and a lovely homely feel. It had everything we wanted or needed, all the comforts of home. The cottage has been decorated impeccably while still keeping the cottage feel. Already booked again! Fantastic!
