This is a truly lovely detached house - beautifully furnished - with sea views and gardens, a short stroll to the beach and close to the excellent local inn and restaurants. A superb detached property near the beach with enclosed gardens and sea views; spacious and ideal for families with lovely décor. With the advantage of private parking for up to three or four cars, this is an excellent property.

Ground Floor

The entrance is via a covered porch into a hallway, decorated in soft pastel shades. To the right is the sitting room with 37" flatscreen TV/DVD player with comfortable sofas, perfect to sit and relax after a day on the beach or sightseeing.

The kitchen, with its large dining area is wonderful to enjoy family meals - look at those fabulous jewel-coloured chairs! - with oven, hob, dishwasher and large fridge/freezer. There is a separate utility room with a washing machine.

There is a fantastic games room with 44" flat screen TV/DVD, film library, games console and fooball table to keep the young ones (and maybe the older ones!) occupied for hours!

Off the kitchen is a luxury shower room, ideal for when you come off the beach, plus a separate WC.

First Floor

On the first floor are the four bedrooms. There is a nautically-themed twin bedroom with sea views and a double bedroom overlooking the front with a king size bed.

There is second large bedroom to the rear, overlooking the garden with sea views and a super king size bed, plus a single bedroom, decorated with seaside-inspired accents of blue and red.

The house bathroom has a lovely free-standing, claw-and-ball bath, WC and hand wash basin.


To the rear is a large, enclosed lawned garden, with terrace and garden furniture, plus a lockable shed - ideal storage for bikes.




The Haggs is in the heart of Sandsend, about 500 yards from the long sandy beach, which runs from the village to the west pier of Whitby harbour - a lovely walk at low tide The house is ideally situated off the main road and close to all the superb village amenities.

WHITBY A leisurely 3 mile stroll along the beach leads to the ancient sea port of Whitby, famed for its connections with the explorer Captain James Cook and steeped in history and is packed with antique shops, tea rooms, and all kinds of restaurants.

NORTH YORKSHIRE MOORS NATIONAL PARK The nearby national park offers superb mountain biking, hiking and horse riding.

The Haggs is a period detached house situated 200 yards from the beach at Sandsend.

Arrival and Car Parking

There is unrestricted on-street parking immediately outside the house. The front garden is block paved and provides ample off street parking for 3 or 4 cars.

Entrance and Ground Floor

Access to the front door is through the front garden. There is an open gateway, which provides access to the blocked paved front driveway, which is approximately 7M by 15M. The driveway slopes gently down to the house from the pavement. The double outward opening doors give an opening width of1.2M and gives access to the front porch. There are two steps into the porch and are 10cm and 13cm high. The 5 lever door lock and handle are 1.1M from floor level. The front porch has linoleum flooring and measures 0.8M by 2.5M. The front door opens inwards into an inner hallway with laminate floor. This door has a clear opening width of 76cm and the lock and door knob is 1.4M and 1.5M from the floor level. There is a 25cm high step into the house. The main hallway is 1M by 3.7M and has laminate flooring.

Most of the internal timber doors in this property have round door knobs for handles and are all around 90cm from floor level.

Hallway has access on the right to the lounge through a wooden door, which is 72 cm wide. The lounge is 3.3M by 4.3M and has a carpeted floor. The room contains three 2 seat sofas, a TV unit and a living flame feature fireplace, with granite hearth and surround.

Opposite the lounge is a small under stairs storage cupboard.

The large kitchen / dining room are located off the ground floor hallway through a 72cm wide door. The room is 3.7M by 6.4M and has painted floorboards. The dining area contains a large table with seating for 8. The table height is 76cm from floor level.

The kitchen has a number of floor and wall units with a worktop height of 91cm. The dishwasher is below worktop level, the electric hob is mounted at worktop and the electric oven is above worktop height. The oven handle is at 123cm from floor level. The kitchen has a pantry which houses the tall fridge/freezer and is accessed through a 65cm wide doorway.

To the left of the kitchen is a 76cm wide door which leads to two further rooms. There are three tiled steps down to a tiled floor area. The steps are 17cm high. To the left, through a 60cm doorway is a linoleum floored room with WC and wash basin and is 1M by 1.5M. To the right, through a 62cm doorway is a linoleum floored shower room. This room is 1.7M by 2.2M and contains a wash basin and quadrant shower enclosure. The enclosure is 80cm by 80cm and has a door opening of 50cm. There is a 15cm step up into the shower. These two rooms have Suffolk latches with the handle at around 1.2M from floor level. This area also has access via a pair of double doors to the garden. The doorway is 90cm wide.

Back through the kitchen and at the far end is a 72cm wide doorway which leads to a downstairs game room. There are two 20cm steps down into this room. The room is 2.6M by 4.3M and has a tiled floor. This room contains a table football, wall mounted TV and 4 bar stools.

The games room gives access via a 70cm doorway to a utility room. This room is 2.4M by 2.7M and has a tiled floor. There are a number of floor and wall units and a worktop height of 91cm. The room contains a sink, a washing machine below worktop level and a microwave that sits on top of the worktop. There is an uPVC door that leads to the rear garden. The doorway is 75cm wide and the lever handle and lock is 1M from floor level.

The rear garden is level, enclosed by secure metal gates and is mainly laid to lawn and contains a paved patio area. The garden is 12M by 15M and the paved patio area is 3M by 6M and contains a table and 8 chairs.

Access to the first floor is via the ground floor hall. The stairs have a child safety gate at the bottom. There are 13 carpeted steps up to a carpeted half landing and then a further step up to the first floor. The stairs have a clear width of 80cm and spindles and handrails on the right at 90cm from floor level. The height of each step is 17cm.

First floor

The half landing is carpeted and is 1M by 1.8M. The half landing gives access through a 70cm wide door to a twin bedroom. This room is carpeted and is 2.6M by 3.5M. The room contains two single beds with a mattress height of 60cm and 2 bedside tables. The space between the beds is 75cm.

The main 1st floor landing is carpeted and measures 1M by 2.9M. The landing leads to bedrooms and the WC and bathroom.

The WC is in a separate room and has a 65cm doorway. The room has linoleum flooring and measures 1M by 1.7M.

The bathroom has a 67 cm wide doorway, has a linoleum floor and measures 2.3M by 2.7M. The room contains a free standing bath and wash basin. There is a small cupboard which houses the immersion heater.

The rear carpeted master double bedroom is accessed through a 72cm doorway. This room is 3.6M by 3.8M and contains a large double bed, a double wardrobe and 2 bedside tables. Mattress top is 70cm from floor level. The spaces at sides of bed are 135cm to the left and 35cm to the right.

The front carpeted double bedroom is through a 65cm wide doorway. This room is 3.1M by 3.3M and contains a double bed, a double wardrobe and 2 bedside tables. Top of mattress is 60cm high. The spaces around the bed are 30cm to the left and 140cm to the right.

The front carpeted single room has a 65cm doorway. This room is 2M by 2.3M and contains 1 single bed. Top of mattress is 60cm high. The space around the bed is 1M on the right.

The house was warm with plenty of space. What let it down was that the carpets were well worn and dirty and in need of replacing. The house needs a coat of paint. We still enjoyed our stay.

The overall feedback would have been so much higher based on the property itself but for two essential things; 1. That the garden was very overgrown when we arrived on our first day and he allegedly attended once but refused to mow the lawn as he claimed there was dog faeces on the lawn. We ensured the lawn was clear every day and awaited the gardener to mow the lawn so we could sit outside in what was lovely weather. Sadly however the gardener never came back. Given how long the grass was its doubtful he had been for many weeks. Shame as if it was better kept it would be a nicer space. 2. The wifi code wasn't provided at the property anywhere and because there was no mobile signal at all at the house one is reliant on communications from the wifi. However the code on the rear of the hub isnt the right one, and there was no other note left at the property for the wifi code so it was impossible to connect to wifi. Several attempts to communicate with Yorkshire Cottages to resolve the issue wasn't successful (we got emails with new codes but none worked on any device - the correct wifi code clearly wasn't available to the management agency looking after the property), and frustratingly we called and emailed severally during the week (having had to go into Whitby to get a signal!) and yet after our return Sykes claimed to have sent someone - not having told us anyone was coming and to be in for them to come! Such a shame as the house is so lovely and the place is idyllic. Well equipped property otherwise sadly let down by a clearly unkept garden and the wifi issue. The hot tap in the upstairs bathroom needs to be replaced as it doesn't work, but the beds are super comfortable and the property has such a lovely feel to it. Disappointing management team is all.

Beautiful location, partking was a bonus. Takes just over an hour to walk along the beach into Whitby - very enjoyable and in the evenings we enjoyed some super food and a bar at The Hart Inn. Also Sandside Cafe does a cracking breakfast. It's our second Easter at Sandsend and we could be back next year.
