An idyllic stone-built cottage in this glorious village, lovingly restored and thoughtfully designed, providing comfortable accommodation for all ages - a charming cottage in a perfect location. A charming cottage with views over the village green, a wonderful open fire, Rayburn range and particularly charming, a ‘witching post’ where you can have your initials carved as a permanent reminder of your holiday! Set in the picturesque village of Egton – a five minute drive from the sea/Whitby – this lovely village has wonderful views over the North Yorks Moors, with many excellent walks.

Lovely hosts, very welcoming

We enjoyed our stay, cottage perfect for our needs. There were a few minor items we needed in the kitchen, side plates and potato masher for example but did not detract from a very happy stay .

Ground Floor
The cottage has lots of character with open beams and a wonderful atmosphere. There is a stone flagged entrance porch which leads to an open plan living area, so everyone can be together whilst cook prepares meals! To the right is an elegant drawing room with wooden floors, oriental rugs, an open fire - perfect for cosy evenings - TV/DVD, lovely artwork on the walls and a collection of books. It also boasts a 'witching post' - folklore says it protects a property from passing witches! - and guests can have their names carved by the owner, on request - what a wonderful and permanent way to remember holiday memories and in turn be remembered.

To the left is the kitchen, with dining area, a charming place to enjoy meals together. The kitchen has granite work surfaces, a Rayburn cooker, an electric cooker, a Belfast sink, fridge, freezer, dishwasher, microwave and washing machine/dryer.
First Floor
To the first floor are two lovely bedrooms - a double with a brass bed, which has a stylish en-suite shower room with shower, WC and hand wash basin, plus a twin bedroom, which also has an en-suite shower room, with a shower, WC and hand wash basin. Both have views over the picturesque village green.
Second Floor
To the second floor is a demi-landing with two comfortable armchairs, a table and books - perfect to sit and enjoy a quiet read. There is a lovely third double bedroom and this floor also has a fun children's bunk bedroom. A fabulous house bathroom has the original stone walls, beams, a wonderful large free-standing bath, WC and hand wash basin - light the candles, sink down and relax!
At the rear is a good size gravelled garden and terrace which is edged with hedges and lovely trees shrubs. There is a large table tennis - always fun for inter-generation matches! Plus, a BBQ and a large stone table with chairs to sit and enjoy meals, a morning cup of tea in the sunshine or to relax in the evening over drinks to discuss the day's activities.

Wheatsheaf Cottage is situated in the centre of Egton, in our opinion, is one of the prettiest villages in the North Yorkshire Moors. The village boasts several pubs, one of which is next door, and is locally renowned for its excellent menu. There are several more fantastic restaurants and gastro pubs within a few minutes drive. Egton village is famous for the annual gooseberry show every August, thought to be the oldest of its kind in England.

Very friendly and helpful owners Nigel and Elaine, nothing was too much trouble, lovely cottage which was clean and comfortable and the bonus was having the occasional meal at their pub next door which was both cosy and served beautiful food. One small constructive criticism- very dim lighting in the cottage which although made it cosy as we sat next to the fire, it proved difficult when trying to complete a puzzle and while I was knitting. Maybe a couple of standard lamps with angle poise would help. Would definitely love to stay again sometime soon.
Mrs Williams
What a beautiful cottage one of the nicest establishments I have ever stayed at, nothing was too much trouble for the gentleman who welcomed us, right next door to a lovely local pub , very quiet village but near enough to Whitby will definitely go again but stay longer next time! Amazing
Miss Obrien
The hosts Nigel and Elaine were helpful and friendly. Had really nice meals at their pub next door. The house was perfect and the garden well used ( table tennis and pizza oven). Great peaceful location, a short drive away from various beaches. Recommend Saltwick, Runswick and Staithes beaches in particular.
What an amazing cottage in a wonderful little village. The hosts were brilliant, kept checking in with us to see if we needed anything. Brought us fresh eggs one morning, with the offer that we could go and pick our own freshly laid eggs. Sunday lunch in the pub next door was truly spectacular, a real must, but book early as it is busy. The ping pong table was a great hit and the barbecue was great. We ate out a few nights, felt like we were abroad. The enclosed garden was fantastic for our two dogs. Will definitely go back.

Beautiful cottage on the edge of the Moors close to the North Yorkshire Coast. We had a wonderful welcome of a light log fire on a dull cool day .The cottage brimmed with character and was beautifully furnished we would also recommend booking a meal in the adjoining Wheatsheaf Pub food and atmosphere wonderful after a day walking and exploring the Moors and the many beautiful bays. We would definitely return!
Mrs Berriman
A lovely cottage, very well equipped and in a great location. The hosts own the pub next door, where the food is fantastic, and they could not be more helpful. The cottage is well furnished and comfortable with a lovely open fire that was very welcoming after colder days walking.
Mrs Kennedy
Very comfortable cottage. Welcomed with a cup of tea after a long journey, which was greatly appreciated. The table tennis and covered outdoor seating were enjoyed by young and old. Well located for the moors and coast.
Mr Bonner
The hosts were always on hand and very helpful. The place was great, lovely antique furniture and very comfortable. The windproof seating area was great too as we could enjoy sitting outside when it might have been too breezy and cold.
Mrs Watson
This is a great cottage for a big family or group of friends. There is plenty of room so people don't feel on top of each other and a lovely garden/outdoor eating area for when the weather is good. The village and pub are very attractive and there are lots of walks from the doorstep. The surrounding area is spectacular, with so much to do on the Moors and by the Coast. We had a thoroughly enjoyable holiday.
Mrs Loxley
Great cottage, lovely quiet village but close to Whitby and with some great walks from the village. All very comfortable and outdoor seating area ( covered ) and BBQ was a real bonus, as well as the pizza oven. Kids loved the table tennis. The owners were lovely, really went the extra mile to make sure all was perfect. The pub next door is very much about food and the food is gorgeous.
