Situated in one of the best locations in Sandsend overlooking the beach and with stunning long distance views of Whitby, a fabulous period style cottage with excellent fittings and furnishings. A gorgeous picturesque cottage on the seafront with fabulous, uninterrupted sea views across the bay towards Whitby, this charming and cosy property has been featured in the Yorkshire Post’s Interiors section. Located in the heart of this popular and unspoilt village, the cottage is ideal for a family, two couples or even as a romantic retreat for two. It has a lovely enclosed front garden, that has a lawn and pretty planted borders, and a table with seating so you can enjoy meals outside, or just a glass of something chilled and relax, whilst looking out to sea.

When we arrived there was no heating on in the cottage and it was very cold

We needed to top up the boiler with water as the pressure was reading low and the thermostat set at 10c. This has obviously not been checked prior to our arrival. The cottage had not been cleaned to a high standard with cobwebs present in the bedrooms. The instructions on how to use the TV paid no resemblance to what, what was required, resulting in us not having a working TV the night we arrived and having to put a call out for a visit the following day. This was easily rectified and would not have been a problem if straight forward instructions were available in the welcome pack. Although the details on the property stipulated it did not have WIFI, this should be standard in these times. The cottage is equipped with the basic kitchen utensils but is made up of a thrown together mismatch of items. Once we overcame the initial disappointment and the cottage warmed up we had a comfortable stay. The cottage is in an ideal location and has superb views of the bay and Whitby.

Ms Smith
The cottage is lovely and in a fantastic position. It was very clean and tidy with almost everything provided to make a super holiday break. There was just a couple of issues that would improve a stay, the television was a bit of a problem with remote controls not working properly but I believe that was being sorted as we left. WiFi should really be a standard fixture in this day and age especially as the mobile phone signal can be a bit hit and miss in the area.
Mrs Hassell
The cottage was homely and exactly as imagined, perfectly placed for a relaxing week in the area. Previous reviews from this year had been a bit negative with regards to the cleanliness so we were a little worried about what we might find. We need not have worried. It was spotless. We had a great time in a clean homely cottage with everything we could have needed. We would definitely book again if in this area. Thank guys. Great job
Miss Walton
The cottage was lovely and this is not a grumble, more an observation. The cottage had everything that was mentioned in the description but it was not of a high/good quality. For £800 I expected it all to be tip top condition but knobs were missing or loose. You had to fight to use the front door. No wifi and the television did not work properly, whether the remotes needed new batteries I don’t know. We didn’t complain we were there to enjoy our holiday and not to use it complaining. The curtains had hooks missing These are just observations. The cottage was in a wonderful spot and we were very lucky with the weather too. There was constant hot water which was super.
Mrs Mattock
The cottage is in a beautiful place with gorgeous views. It is homely and comfortable but needs an update. The cleanliness wasn't the best although bedding and towels were very clean. Curtains seriously need sorting out. The paintwork outside and furniture make the place look scruffy. No WiFi, only one TV channel that works properly. This cottage could be so much better with a day or two just fixing the broken things and a lick of paint. We did enjoy our week and would stay again but these things really stood out.
Mrs Mewse
We had a lovely stay at Ebor Cottage and would choose to return in the future. However the following points should be noted. There is no wifi at the property, guests should be made aware of this in advance. Similarly TV reception is very patchy making it watchable only on BBC1 most of the time. The Sky Box has been disabled. The property would benefit from some attention to detail by the owner. The outside area is shabby and untidy, particularly the rear sitting area. Some curtains were hanging loose from the rings on the poles .Only one egg cup provided, a dirty knife in the cutlery drawer, a loose/missing handle on the chest of drawers in the front bedroom. These minor details could have been remedied prior to letting the property which overall provides a high standard of accommodation. The location is outstanding and the wonderful sea view the highlight of our holiday.
Mr Paxton
Having read recent reviews we were concerned but need not have worried. This cottage is ideal for 2 but a bit small if there had been 4 of us. The lack of WiFi is a big issue and should be more obvious in the details. We had issues with the heating - time clock did not seem to work but was ok if we operated it manually. Instructions for using the job would have been helpful as it took a frustrating 15 mins to work out. Beds and linen are excellent. Generally this cottage is ok but a bit tired.
Mrs Taylour
I am currently taking legal action against the owner. Your staff have not replied to my messages and those I have spoken to have tried to deny any responsibility.
Mr Buncall
Cottage was not clean, was very dusty, shower was blocked and not draining away. We had to remove the trap which was full of hair and black slime to clear it. Bin bags lying at the back of the cottage, there is no wheelie bin and no information on bin collection day. Debris and cigarette ends round outside and back of cottage. Black mould on bedroom wall next to window. Neighbour next door put traffic cones out on the road every day and made parking very difficult. Appreciate it must be difficult for residents but it did mean we had to to use the car park at the end of the village. Did not live up to our expectations
Mrs Douglas
Lovely week. Excellent location and local facilities. Superb! Would definitely book again.
Ward Party
A beautiful little cottage with stunning views all the way up to Whitby. We particularly enjoyed sitting at the dining table in the evening and enjoying a gin and tonic whilst watching the waves. The kitchen is well stocked with crockery, cutlery, glassware and cooking tools - perfect for us as we like to cook and dine in.
Long Party
