A fabulous, five bedroom Victorian 'villa style' townhouse in an excellent central, yet quiet residential area, a short stroll to the beach and harbour. Bright, spacious and well-equipped, it boasts stylish decor and outside space. This is a delightful period property - very comfortable with lovely décor, an enclosed lawned garden to the front plus rear courtyard space to enjoy breakfast al fresco or a BBQ after a day on the beach! With ornate original features, this is a much-loved house - guests return year on year - and perfect for family get-togethers or a gathering of friends wanting somewhere special.

Ground Floor
Approach this lovely house - with its beautiful Victorian 'villa' styling and ornate decorative balcony - via a small, lawned enclosed garden, which is a sun-trap, bordered with roses and hedging for privacy.

The entrance hall, with its colourful 'WHITBY' lettering, is inviting and leads to a smart sitting room, with TV and comfortable seating, which also has an open fire - wonderful to cosy up in front of on cooler evenings - with a starter pack of kindling and logs supplied in winter months plus we set the fire ready for you to light!

The sitting room leads to the dining room with its lovely scrubbed pine table - perfect for enjoying meals as a family or group of friends - and an armoire with a book library and puzzles for family fun.

The dining room has French doors that lead to the rear courtyard garden, with its two charming beach huts for storage, BBQ and table and chairs - what could be nicer, sat in the sunshine enjoying al fresco dining, pre-dinner drinks or just your morning cuppa before a day's adventure?

There is an excellent, good size galley-style kitchen, which is well-equipped with a range cooker with eight gas rings - perfect for cooking for a large party! - fridge/freezer, microwave, dishwasher and washing machine.

First Floor
To the first floor is a wonderful, large drawing room which has bay windows that look out towards the moorland in the distance; with comfortable sofas to sit and relax, it's a truly lovely room with beautiful plasterwork including elegant cornicing and ceiling rose.

This floor also has a beautiful double bedroom with a king size French-style rattan bed and decorative cast iron fireplace. A stunning family bathroom boasts a free-standing claw and ball bath, WC, hand wash basin and a large separate shower cubicle.

Second Floor
To the second floor is a charming twin bedroom – we love the bunting and beach-inspired décor! – and a lovely double bedroom with views out over the front garden, again with a cast iron fireplace. There is another bathroom, which is very pretty with a free-standing bath with shower over, WC and hand wash basin.

Third Floor
The top floor has a single bedroom - from which you can see across to the iconic Whitby Abbey and a glimpse of the sea! - and a further twin bedroom, again, styled in the vibrant blues, reds and whites, reminiscent of beach holidays.

To the front is a pretty lawned garden which is a sun trap – wonderful to sit and enjoy a morning coffee and relax! – and an enclosed courtyard to the rear, where you can indulge in al fresco breakfasts or dine under the stars.

There is on-street parking outside with the harbour, beach, shops, restaurants, bars and cafés a short stroll away as well as an excellent fish and chip shop a two minute walk away - let cook have the night off!

Blue House is situated minutes' walk from the centre of Whitby in a quiet location and boasts lovely Abbey views from the top floor. The harbour and train station are c. five minutes on foot

The Blue House is a Victorian house and retains many of its original features.

Arrival and Car Parking

There are a few unrestricted on-street parking spaces immediately outside the house and further parking on the opposite side of the road, which is called Fishburn Road.

Entrance and Ground Floor

Access to the front door is through the front garden. There is a metal gate, with a clear opening width of 98cm which provides access to the front steps. There are 11 steps up to the front door. The steps are 20cm high and there is a handrail to the right at 1M from floor level. There is a small lawned garden which contains a metal bench which gives views over to a children’s play park. The front door has an opening width of 80cm and gives access to a small inner hall. The lock and handle are at 90cm from floor level. The inner porch has stained floorboards and gives access through a door with a 77cm opening. The door knob is at 80cm from floor level. The ground floor hallway is 1M by 6.3M and has stained floorboards.

Most of the internal timber doors in this property have round door knobs for handles and are all around 90cm from floor level.

Hallway has access on the left to the lounge/diner through a wooden door, which is 72 cm wide. The lounge is 3.6M by 4.3M and has stained floorboards. The room contains two 2 sofas, 2 single chairs a TV unit and an open fire with a tiled hearth and granite surround, along with a fireguard. The room retains an original bay window. A central coffee table sits on a large hessian rug. The dining area is 3.6M by 4M and has stained floorboards. There is a large dining table at 78cm tall that has seating for 10. There are units to both sides of the chimney breast, which contains a non working fireplace. There is a clear space around the table of at least 70cm on all sides. There are double outward opening doors with a clear width of 96cm that opens out into the back yard. The handle and lock are at 1.2M from floor level. There is a 20cm step up into the rear yard.

Opposite the lounge/diner is a small under stairs storage cupboard.

The hallway narrows to 60cm in places and leads to the kitchen. The kitchen is 2.1M by 5.5M and has a tiled floor. There are a number of wall and floor cupboards and a timber worktop at 94cm from floor level. This room has a double width electric oven with 6 burner hob, a washing machine and dishwasher below worktop, a tall fridge freezer and a microwave that sits on the worktop. The kitchen gives access through a 70cm wide door with lock and handle at 95cm and 110cm. There is a 15cm step up into the rear yard. The rear yard is level concrete and is 3.3M by 5M. The yard contains the wheelie bins and a table with seats for 4.

Access to the first floor is via the ground floor hall. All of the stairs throughout the property are 72cm wide with a 60cm wide carpet runner. The stairs are all around 18cm tall and have spindles and handrail at 90cm. There are 12 stairs up to a carpeted half landing, then a further 6 stairs up to the first floor carpeted landing.

First floor

The half landing is carpeted and is 1M by 2.7M. The half landing gives access through a 74cm wide door to a bathroom. This room has a linoleum floor and is 2.1M by 3.5M. The room contains a free standing bath with claw feet, a wash basin, WC and quadrant shower enclosure. The enclosure is 80cm by 80cm and has a 55cm door opening and a 10cm step into the shower. The half landing also has access to a cupboard that houses the immersion heater.

The main first floor landing is carpeted and measures 1M by 2M. The landing leads to the following:

The rear carpeted double bedroom is accessed through a 77cm doorway. This room is 3.2M by 3.9M and contains a large double bed, 2 built-in wardrobes, a chest of drawers and 2 bedside tables. Mattress top is 65cm from floor level. The spaces at sides of bed are 80cm to the left and 70cm to the right. This room also has a non-working fireplace.

The first floor front lounge is carpeted and accessed through a 74cm wide doorway. This room is 3.5M by 5.4M and contains 2 sofas, 2 single chairs, a central coffee table, a TV unit and original but non-working fireplace. This room has two windows, one of which is a large bay window.

Access to the second floor is via the first floor hallway and is via 10 stairs leading to a half landing and then a further 7 stairs up to the second floor landing. The carpeted half landing is 1M by 2M.

Second floor

The front double bedroom is carpeted and is 3.6M by 3.1M. The doorway is 75cm wide. The room contains a king sized bed, a chest of drawers and 2 bedside tables. The mattress is 60cm from floor level. The space around the bed is 140cm to the left and 50cm to the right. The room contains an original but non-working fireplace.

The back twin room is carpeted and is 3.3M by 4M. The doorway is 76cm wide. The room contains 2 single beds, a chest of drawers and a bedside table. The mattress height is 55cm. The space around the beds is 35cm to the left, 120cm to the right and 60cm between. This room also has an original but non-working fireplace.

The second floor bathroom is accessed via a 75cm doorway. The room has linoleum flooring and is 1.9M by 2.4M. The room contains a bath with shower over, a wash basin and a WC.

Access to the third floor is via the second floor landing. There are 9 stairs up to a half landing then a further 6 stairs to the main third floor landing. The half landing is carpeted and is 1M by 2M. There is restricted head height as the ceiling slopes from 1.8M down to 1.1M. The third floor landing is carpeted and is 1M by 2.9M.

Third floor

The front twin room is accessed via a 65cm doorway. The room is carpeted and is 2.7M by 5.3M. The room contains 2 single beds, a chest of drawers and a bedside table. The mattress top is 55cm from floor level. The space around the beds is nothing to the left as the bed is against the wall, 2.3M to the right and 80cm between. The back single bedroom is accessed via a 65cm doorway. The room is carpeted and is 2M by 3.5M. The room contains a single bed, a bookshelf and a chest of drawers. The mattress top is 55cm from floor level. There is restricted head height in this room as the ceiling slopes from 2.1M to 1M.

Lovely house in a fab location. So close to everything! Used the train (steam) into the moors which was a lovely day and nicer than taking the car.
