Appleton Wiske is a small village resting in the Vale of York, just over eight miles from the larger town of Northallerton, and within easy reach of the North York Moors National Park. This charming village won Gold in Yorkshire in Bloom 2006, 2007, and 2008 and is a close-knit community with around 350 residents, once a more agricultural setting with some farms still within the parish boundaries, now with mostly those working in Northallerton and Richmond commuting. Appleton Wiske has a local Post Office/village shop for all your essentials on a self-catered stay, as well as a local welcoming pub, perfect for a refreshing drink after a day of exploring. Enjoy the excellent walking and cycling in the area, with the Vale of York being mostly flat and great for leisurely jaunts. For a more energetic ramble, head to the North York Moors National Park and climb the peaks and fells here, with amazing scenery to experience and some historic gems along the way like Mount Grace Priory run by the National Trust. The town of Northallerton has a wider selection of amenities and is home to a twice-weekly market on Wednesdays and Saturdays, perfect for sampling the local Yorkshire produce, whilst Richmond is teaming with history and heritage to discover.
