Lovely apartment, convenient for Whitby town centre.

Enjoyed watching the birds in the garden.

Really good accommodation and very well placed for Whitby, the Christmas tree was a lovely touch.

Good facilities and the welcome pack was nice as well.

The property was nice and clean on our arrival,and got an early check-in which we appreciated via txt from the owner,just a couple of minor things which need addressing.

extractor fan not working, shower temperature could do with being raised a little,other than that it's OK.

A lovely apartment from the moment we walked in we felt at home.

Very clean and warm ideal situated to explore Whitby and with parking for our car. We will certainly return in the future.

The property was exactly as described and very clean and welcoming.

The welcome gift was much appreciated. The property was in a perfect location to walk into Whitby, Sandsend and join the Cinder track.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay there. We loved Whitby. However, although the flat is set up for two people we found the amount of equipment eg only two mugs and few plates rather mean, we had to wash up rather than have enough crockery for the dishwasher. Don’t bank on the ‘generous’ welcome pack referred to by other guests because we only got a packet of biscuits! On one of the nights it became chilly so we tried to light the gas fire, following all instructions, but could not get it to work.

Spent a very enjoyable week in this lovely spacious, clean apartment, tasteful decor & well equipped.

Pleasant seated garden. Not having a car & one of us with walking problems we had to walk quite a distance to catch a bus & unfortunately they were not very reliable. Otherwise it's a lovely place to stay & would definitely recommend.

Would like to be able to open the bedroom window as found it a bit stuffy and there was no handle on window. Freezer compartment needs sorting out. Otherwise all good

This was our 2nd visit to this apartment.

We love the location, and the apartment is home from home. The welcome pack was a nice touch. My only points I would like to make, is that I couldn't get the hob fan to work The bedroom could do with a blind, as it was very bright in the morning Finally the freezer compartment of the fridge,was too frosted up to use These are easily resolved matters and it would not stop me staying here again.

Needs some decorating especially back of bathroom door.

Paint off and stained. The sofa and chairs need re-covering or replaced together with carpets. Couldn't see any recent gas safety certificates in folder. There were a couple of old 2019 and 2023 Certificates. Otherwise. Comfortable, homely and well situated with a nice rear garden.

Excellent apartment which felt like home from home.

There is a dishwasher which is not listed in the apartments details so an absolute bonus. However the dishwasher was a tad temperamental and the top tier would not go in and out properly on the runners. I just put a few things in that section without pulling it out and that proved to work satisfactorily. The oven only had one wire shelf so if you needed two levels you had to use the bottom of the oven. Also a baking tray would have been extremely useful for cooking things in the oven. The basics were included, 1 toilet roll, handwash in the kitchen and bathroom, washing up liquid, dishwasher tablets, tea towel, 2 dishcloths and a pan scrub. However there was no foil, cling film, tea, coffee, salt, pepper, further toilet rolls, bin bags for the waste bin in the kitchen so would recommend you include these if you don’t want to start shopping when you are there. Everything considered the position of the apartment and the apartment itself were superb. Approximately a 10-15 minute walk down to the centre of Whitby downhill, but quite a slope coming back up. The X4 bus from the bus station does stop at the end of the road so could make life easier if you find it a struggle. Bus services from Whitby bus station were great. X4 towards Saltburn every half hour, X93 and X94 towards Scarborough and Robin Hoods Bay every hour, and the Coastliner calling at Goathland, Pickering, York and Leeds plus other stops every 2 hours. If you have a senior bus pass issued in England all the routes are covered. We left the car at Stakesby House and enjoyed the scenery. The milk, biscuits and bottle of wine when we arrived were very welcome. All in all a lovely holiday and the weather was extremely kind for the last few days of April and the first few days of May. Whitby was a pleasure to explore.

Excellent stay, very clean and tidy, everything we needed.

Only little issue was shower wasn't very hot. Bedroom could of done with a blackout blind as the sun was early raising and light in the room. But overall great stay.

The apartment was wonderful and we have already booked for 2025.

But we had an issue with the occupants of the apartment above us. For the first fews days we endured late night and very early morning noises from them. Their incessant singing, shouting, and banging about showed a complete disregard for courtesy and social norms. The constant disruption repeatedly shattered our sleep and ruined our enjoyment of what is usually a peaceful and idyllic location. At one point we considered leaving and returning home but luckily mid-week they either left or had their moral compass pointed in the right direction Because of this we can only truly give this stay 3 stars.

Excellent spacious accommodation in good location.

Beautiful spacious apartment, clean and comfortable.

Well positioned, only 10 minute walk into Whitby but uphill coming back so could be a problem for the less mobile. Lovely garden to rear of property with plenty of seating. Milk biscuits and wine were very much appreciated. Parking can be awkward but plenty of space on the road. Would not hesitate to recommend this property and would stay there again if visiting the area.

Lovely apartment, spotlessly clean!

Really comfortable & had everything we needed. On a busy road but you can’t really hear it from the inside. We tended to keep the blinds & curtains closed most of the time for more privacy as people staying in other apartments can see in. Handy for the town, approx a 20 minute walk, then we used local buses most of the time.

Extremely comfortable, parking on site and near to park and ride and shops. The accommodation had a lovely tranquil feel with a spacious garden and seating area at rear of property while also being located conveniently near to a main road with direct access to shops and Whitby town. We had a good week, the was property was nice .

We only had one car but I do think the listing should be more clearer about parking . It says 3 cars but doesn’t mention thats for other apartments in the building as well . The picture makes it look a lot bigger than it is . The bed is comfortable .

We found the Park and ride was good to get to the harbour . Would stay again.

Absolutely fabulous!

A really lovely cottage, really comfortably furnished, great shower, comfortable bed and very clean. Had everything you need for a great break and only 10 minutes walk from centre of Whitby. Beautiful garden and very quiet and peaceful setting. Really nice welcome pack and 2 minutes walk form Lidl and local Pub. We have been visiting Whitby for 20 years and never normally go back to the same cottage but can’t wait to book Stakesby House Apartment 1 again. Owners live near by and are very nice and helpful. Would give it 6 starts if I could. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

A lovely property with parking which is a big bonus.

It is very spacious and was very clean and it felt private too. No silly "house" rules either and the welcome pack was very nice especially the local baker's biscuits! All on one level was another bonus. It's a far step to town but the location of the property gives you choices of whether to walk straight down and get onto the harbour/river bridge area or walk through Pannett park and access the town from the other end.

We really enjoyed our stay. We enjoyed walking to Whitby through the park at the bottom of the road. Good bus service, we got the bus to Scarborough. Plenty of parking on the road outside the apartment- we didn’t bother parking on the drive. Welcome pack was a nice touch. Loved the dressing room with the dressing table - great for contact lenses & make up. Good shower.

In a great location, near to all amenities. Definitely will be back. I do think that blackout curtains or blinds in the bedroom would help

Apartment was very clean & comfortable.

All the facilities were as described on website. Ideally situated for the town centre & West Cliff area & made a really good starting point for walks both local & on the North Yorkshire moors. Directions to the apartment were spot on.

We found everything necessary within the very spacious apartment which helped to make our stay in Whitby very enjoyable. The welcome pack of wine, cake and milk were a pleasant surprise.

Bright, clean and welcoming property.

Well appointed with everything that we needed for our stay. The property is walking distance from all of the amenities of Whitby and handy for lots of walking routes.

Blinds needed in dressing area and bedroom as being on the ground floor you are overlooked, so we had to have both sets of curtains drawn in the morning until we were dressed from coming out of the bathroom.

A few more more items in the kitchen would be appreciated such as a baking sheet. Thanks Julie

A very clean and comfortable apartment near whitby centre (about 20 min walk) welcome wine, biscuits and milk was a very nice gesture.

Will certainly recommend and would return as like a home from home.

It is hard to understand why Covid is still being used as an excuse for not providing towels and oven gloves, especially as Sykes information stated that towels WERE provided.

This meant that on arrival we had to go out to buy them. Bedroom would have benefitted from a mirror, ( 1 was provided in the lobby but was not near a plug for a hairdryer). Parking was very tricky, due to the incline of the driveway. If all apartments were occupied, it would potentially have caused problems.

A first class location and an experience we would like to repeat and fully intend to do so.

Great location as Whitby harbour and attractions were a short walk away. Surprisingly quiet given location on a busy road. The only negative was there was no information available about the area.

Spacious and clean flat, we enjoyed watching and listening to the birds in the garden.

Convenient for local shops, far away enough from town to be quiet, but not too far to walk in. Went for long walk to Robin Hood’s Bay along the disused railway. Would come again.

It really felt homely and when the weather prevented us from staying outside all day it was very relaxing to come back to this accommodation to chill out.

It was just the right distance from the town centre and the local buses.

We really enjoyed our short break at Stakesby House,wished it could have been longer!

A few more glasses and a better DVD player would improve things but really minor points

It would also have been useful to know that we needed to bring dishwasher tablets and bin bags. Overall a very nice rental.

The apartment was very clean and comfortable, having parking was a bonus also the communal garden to sit in.

It was about a 20 minute walk into Whitby. Whitby itself was a perfect place to stay, with plenty to see and do. We enjoyed looking round the Abbey, James Cook Museum and Pannet Park. Also walking round the harbour to see the boats, and the footpath by the river Esk. There are regular short boat trips around the harbour and a steam railway. There were many cafes, restaurants and pubs to choose from all serving quality food and drink. We found it a lively and interesting place to stay. Only one negative- the public toilets were either closed or flooded during our stay!

Bempton Cliffs, North Yorkshire Moors Railway, Staithes and Whitby are all well worth a visit.

We are not that familiar with self catering and weren’t sure what to expect.

We were both very satisfied with all aspects of the accommodation, it was clean and had everything that we required, well placed to walk into town and in a nice area with very little noise. I would recommend this accommodation and would return at a later date if possible.

The DVD player lost sound a number of times when watching films so we had to restart.

Could be the age of the player. Also maybe a smart tv option so people can watch their own streaming sites like Netflix, usually not a big deal but with COVID-19 we didn’t have much choices to do things on a night.

Our week in apartment 1 at stakesby house was very comfortable and the property is well situated, we felt reasonably safe there regarding the covid 19 pandemic which had given some concern following reports of a flare up in the north east of the Country, when we live in East Anglia a safer area, I am eighty years old and the thought of driving well over 200 miles in to uncertainty was somewhat daunting, but we were quite happy there, a pleasant break in these uncertain times, we will certainly consider Sykes holiday cottages in the future, thank for the wonderful service.

The apartment was scrupulously clean on arrival, exceeding any expectations we had with the current pandemic, when you would expect the accomodation to be spotless.

It is spacious, comfortable, conveniently located and therefore everything we wanted for our stay. Well done to Joe & Jacqui.

We were pleasantly surprised with the accommodation.

A small niggle was the poor internet connection, didn't intend to sit over my laptop while on holiday but I couldn't access the website to check my emails, disappointed with this. With reference to the information booklet for residents, it might be worthwhile including information on using Parking Discs in the disc parking zones in Whitby town. I've never came across them before and in my ignorance managed to get a £50 parking charge. I've found out since that the cards can be obtained free from many local shops, my fault, lesson learnt. Lovely accommodation though and the off street parking very welcome. We spent a few evenings in the very nice back garden enjoying a g and t before we walked into the town centre (about 15 mins) and plenty of taxis to bring you back for £5.00. We ate out for our main meals, having a traditional Sunday lunch at The Stables, a Thai meal, an Italians an Indians at restaurants in the town and of course the traditional fish and chips ( recommend Alexanders opposite the Irish Bar in town ) This is the first time we have used Sykes Cottages but it will not be the last, we were talking about booking this place straight away for next year!!!

Going on holiday in March was brilliant.

Whitby was busy but not to rammed, a little bit chilly but dry . All in all with quality of the apartment it was nice short break.
