“Unfortunately, the overall condition, cleanliness, and maintenance of the property fell well below the standard we expected and paid for.”

Firstly, the cleanliness of the house was unacceptable. The floors had clearly not been cleaned properly, with visible dirt and debris in areas such as around the sides of beds, near toilets, and on shelving. The spaces between the stair rails were covered in dust, as were the fire extinguishers. We even found a jacket left hanging on the back of one of the doors, suggesting the property had not been thoroughly cleaned or checked prior to our arrival. The twin bedroom, which would reasonably be expected to accommodate children, had an extremely low window, and the lock was not working. This presented a potential safety concern. We also experienced a significant issue with the shower-over-bath in one of the bathrooms. Using the shower caused water to leak through and flood the bathroom below. I called the contact number provided in the property information and was told that a plumber would be sent out. However, no one attended during our stay. As a result, our party of seven was forced to share a single working bathroom for showering, which was highly inconvenient. There were also several maintenance issues throughout the property. The Velux window in the top bedroom was missing a bolt. Fortunately, my brother-in-law was able to carry out a temporary repair; otherwise, my mother would have had to endure a draughty bedroom and, given the amount of rain over the weekend, there was a risk of water leaking into the adjoining toilet area. The extractor fan in the kitchen only worked if the button was physically held in, making it impractical to use while cooking. Fortunately, we only ate breakfast at the property, so this issue had a limited impact on our stay. Additionally, the blinds in all of the bedrooms were ill-fitting, allowing excessive light into the rooms and compromising privacy. The motion-sensor lights in the hallways were also excessively bright, meaning that anyone using the bathroom during the night would trigger lights that disturbed other guests who were sleeping. Overall, we were very disappointed with the condition, cleanliness, and maintenance of the property. We do not feel that it met a reasonable standard for paying guests, and several of these issues significantly impacted our stay.
