Mallard Cottage

Everything was great, nice comfortable accommodation, Beryl and John gave us a nice welcome.

Well equipped and the lounge was very light and spacious with a great view of the birds feeding in the garden. Thanks Barry and Pam.

Lovely cottage in a great area for exploring Whitby.

Comfortable beds, nice bathrooms. Sofa a bit low & uncomfortable. A few issues with lights & boiler but sorted quickly. Would recommend & visit again.

I stayed in Mallard cottage for a week with my wife and we were very pleased with the cleanliness and overall layout of the place.

The only problem was the noises from the water tank during the night next to the bedroom. I presume it was a heater on a timer as it never seemed to be noisy during the day. If the times could be changed to daytime that would be good and also a standard lamp behind the sofa would be good as it was a bit dull for reading at night, but thats just me being picky we would stay again in the future. Peter

A finely prepared cottage with all facilities and in a good location for access to Whitby and surrounding countryside.

The only drawback we found was the WiFi/ mobile phone coverage. Otherwise we fully recommend Mallard Cottage and we hope to book again.

We had a really nice 3 night stay at Mallard Cottage during February half term.

We have stayed at Magpie cottage a few times, but first stay at Mallard. The cottage is amazing, really comfortable, beautifully maintained and presented by the owner / housekeeper. Fantastic facilities and everything and more that you need for a stay away. The location is superb and is a good reason we stay here. We will be returning again. Highly recommended.

Cozy, clean and comfortable cottage!

Wes nice to meet Beryl and John on our arrival. We had quite a damp week in February, and it was lovely and warm to come back to at the end of a day exploring. Thank you too for the treats!

Rented property with Farm Cottage for a celebration with a large group of family and friends.

This cottage is modern and airy and well appointed. In a great location in walking distance of Whitby and it’s attractions

Accommodation cannot be faulted, there was everything there that was needed for an even longer stay if required.

(we only stayed 3 nights) All appliances looked brand new, they were spotlessly clean. There was only 2 of us but it could easily accommodate 4. Lovely to have tea, coffee, biscuits, sweets and even a small bottle of milk (which we didn’t use thinking we’d need to bring out own) Patio area was lovely and would’ve loved to use the bbq if the weather had been warmer. Log burner was a great touch, but the central heating kept the cottage cosy enough for us. Location was great as it was a pleasant walk into Whitby taking about 15 minutes. We would return at a later date and would definitely recommend to family and friends.

Comfortable, clean and warm.

The fact I could park the car and walk into town was great with a nice cottage to come back too. I would book Mallard cottage again.

Brilluant place everything you need very comfortable and very clean nice place to sit on patio at rear of property very nice

The cottage is lovely, I've stayed there before a few years ago and chose it because if the downstairs bedroom which was great for my mum as she wasn't good with stairs.

The only problems that I found were, no proper drawers in the bedrooms to put jumpers etc I only just got underwear in, and a cupboard in the kitchen to put food in eg cereals marmalade, jam, sauces etc. Every cupboard was full of crockery, more than was actually needed. Other than that the cottage is lovely and great that it has a parking space.

We would highly recommend this cottage .

Perfect location for Whitby and the surrounding area . Spotlessly clean and very well equipped with a lovely garden area too. So good to be able to walk into Whitby and have no parking issues. No issues at all with the proximity to the school . We will definitely return !

Mallard Cottage was an excellent property & being next to the school was no detriment to the enjoyment of the property & location.

Very clean & well equipped. A credit to the owners & Housekeeper.

A very peaceful spot considering the closeness of the neighbouring school!

Very little noise intrusion. Hardly any school traffic when you consider the normal school mayhem. Certainly not an issue for us. The house itself is well laid out, comfortable, spotlessly clean and has everything you could want to make for a pleasant stay. Its location is convenient for Whitby, it only being a 15 minute walk in so avoiding parking issues. Be prepared for some steep hills if you do walk. Its location near the A171 makes getting about to other places very easy indeed. We had a very pleasant stay here.

The property was lovely very well equipped.

My only complaint is that the single beds were not comfortable at all. Even though Beryl emphasised the beds had mattress toppers on and said they were very comfortable, it must be a personal preference, not to my liking. The garden area was very nice and peaceful. We enjoyed feeding the birds. BBQ a nice touch. All in all a lovely stay will be back when the mattresses have been changed.

Mallard is the perfect home away from home.

Beryl & John gave us a lovely welcome. We were delighted with the milk & biscuits left for us. So thoughtful. The whole property was so comfortable & clean. It was a real pleasure to stay here. Thank you

Cottage was superb had every thing you could want and was spotlessly clean outlook from garden great going to book again

Very good

Wow could not be happier the cottage was wonderful and so clean with everything and more supplied the house keeper Berol is so proud of her work and rightly so.

The cottage was in a great location and perfect for a two day stay or more, we did a week but could of stayed for more , home from home

Brilliant place and housekeeper a real credit to the place.

Beds super comfortable and a great view of the abbey from the garden. 2 parking spaces great. Dont let the property being across from a school put you off as we didnt hear anything from them.

The barn style property is lovely and in an ideal location.

16 minute walk to the harbour, although there is a big hill to walk back up, so not ideal for anyone who struggles to walk. The accommodation was spotless and has a lovely little garden and parking for two small cars. We loved the beams, the mezzanine bedroom in the property and the log burner, although we only used it once, as the central heating made the property really toasty. I would definitely recommend this property to my family/friends and would also book again x

Within reason I am driven by price and this property was reasonably priced for the time of year.

Would like to return in the future . No issues with the school nextdoor, noise or traffic.

Exactly as described.

Just a short walk into whitby but far enough to avoid noise

A very comfortable cottage with everything we needed for our weeks stay including a good supply of tea and coffee.

Conveniently located on the edge of Whitby but close enough for walking into the town through several different directions. It is also very close to the Cinder Track cycle/walking path which goes all the way to Scarborough. Although the cottage is adjacent to a secondary school this caused us no problems whatsoever and following the hosts directions on arrival we drove straight to the property without any problem.

Our stay in Mallard Cottage was lovely.

It was clean and well cared for - even the small back garden is lovingly tended by the Housekeeper. Every kitchen utensil was available for cooking at home. One of our group is wheelchair bound and had no problems with accessibility. Thank you.

A good cottage with everything required for your stay.

Ideal location for Whitby centre and good surroundings for walks. Had a good stay in a clean and comfortable cottage.

Nice place to stay.

Great property, great facilities.

The housekeeper takes great pride in the property and it was immaculate. Thank you for a great stay

Cosy, clean and comfortable.

Great facilities and good location - about 10 mins walk into town. We asked for a fan as it was especially warm and it was delivered straight away. We had a fabulous stay and can’t recommend highly enough

Lovely property, clean, modern and everything you need.

The garden is beautiful and peaceful.

We loved our stay at Mallard Cottage.

It’s even nicer than in the photos and it’s very well equipped if you like cooking whilst on holiday. Beryl the housekeeper does an amazing job. The place was spotlessly clean and the beds were very comfortable. The patio area is beautiful and much nicer than the photos with flowers and bird boxes with comfy seating. It is a real treat sitting out there. Whitby is a fantastic destination with lots of independent, quirky shops and Mallard Cottage made a great base to explore from.

An excellent cottage in a superb position.

Glorious sunshine all week. A couple of points. Could have done with a pole for the washing line. Also the drain outside the door is solid with dirt. Could flood in heavy rain. Probably belongs to the college. But worth clearing before heavy rain comes in. Other than the sheets were too small and kept coming off the bed when you turned over, the holiday was superb and I would have no hesitation in recommending it in the future.

Lovely stay, very comfortable accommodation in a quiet close situated next to sixth form college.

Accommodation is well designed, with open plan living, dining and kitchen area. All modern and clean, well equipped. Two good bathrooms, one with a bath which is always a bonus. Bedrooms are a good size. One is upstairs with a gallery, overlooking the lounge. Property is approx 15mins walk from town centre. More specific directions to the property would have been helpful. We spent 20 mins or so at the end of our tiring drive trying to locate the property asking locals to help eventually. Our sat nav didn't seem to recognise either postcode provided.

One of the best properties we have stayed at - and we’ve stayed at a lot!

Location is great and the cottage itself is wonderfully clean and comfy and very well equipped. Communication with the owner was really easy.

Shortage of oven cookware otherwise no issues

Once we had managed to find the property, as for some reason Sykes had 2 postcodes for this place, we found the accommodation to be perfect for the 4 of us staying together.

Plenty of comfortable seating for us all, the beds were very inviting and the bathrooms were lovely. The kitchen had everything you could need , with plenty of crockery and cutlery, and a lovely big table to sit and eat comfortably at. The property was exceptionally clean and ideally situated for a 10 minute walk into the center of Whitby, or right next to the cinder path if that type of walking is preferred. We would recommend this place and are hoping to return in the future.

We were lucky enough to meet the cleaning crew on our arrival.

A lovely polite couple who gave us good advice about places to visit and eat during our break. They also left the place spotlessly clean with everything in its place. The housekeeper too was most helpful when we asked for advice. The cottage is in a lovely, quiet location. It is fabulously equipped with all anyone could ask for on holiday. A stone’s throw from the front door is a path that soon leads you onto an old unused railway track that has been converted to 20 odd miles of a beautiful rural walkway. We loved Mallard Cottage for all it provides. We will be back.

We stayed for a couple of nights at New year, and on arrival the property was lovely and warm and welcoming.

The Christmas decorations were still up as well which was nice. The property was exactly as described and was an easy walk into Whitby for all the sights, shops and amenities there. We had a fantastic break and would definitely recommend to others.

Excellent cottage, very clean, modern and comfortable.

Had everything you needed. Excellent location, walking distance to whitby and only a short drive to other towns like Robin hoods bay and straites.

We stay here every year and we’re never disappointed.

excellent all round .

The location is lovely ,TV is absolutely rubbish I think there should be a TV up stairs in bedroom the property is lovely apart from its lovely

The only thing we would have liked was a sky or Netflix facility for the evening with having a 2 year old grandson and not being able to go out at night , everything else couldn't have been more perfect .

Thankyou

A lovely and clean cottage with a 10 minute walk into Whitby town centre.

The facilities exceeded our expectations- a very well equipped kitchen with everything well thought out and every single utensil you could wish to use at your disposal. Would highly recommend. Thankyou! :)

The property was comfortable and well equipped and it an ideal position for accessing the coast and the Yorkshire moors.

The centre of Whitby is walkable but parking in town was free after six giving a wide choice of eating places in the evening. The patio and bbq would have been good to use if we had stayed longed and provide good views over the town. A great base for the walks we wanted to do.

We had a wonderful week there.

It’s the best place we’ve stayed in Whitby.

The only thing we missed was a coffee pot.

Everything else was perfect.

We thought the holiday accommodation was brilliant, we couldn’t fault it and it exceeded our expectations.

Great location.

Fantastic Stay, parking for 2cars a bonus, would benefit from a mirror in both bedrooms, all in all a lovely cottage, would reccomend it.

From arrival to leaving we had a wonderful time.

A well maintained, comfortable and welcoming cottage. It is so close to the town centre and we loved exploring Whitby and close by Staithes. Thank you so much.

Really lovely cottage, we had a wonderful stay here.

The interior & facilities are of an excellent standard & attention to detail re cleaning/maintenance is clearly evident. Brilliant location - very easy to access Whitby centre in no more than a 10mins walk via a choice of routes. Also great access to Cinder Path trail. We didn’t use our car for the entire week of our stay. The on-site parking is a definite asset. The only improvement I’d suggest is in line with the other three recent reviews. The mattress on the king size bed needs replacing. The support has definitely “gone”. You do roll into the middle of the bed making for a less than comfortable sleep. If the mattress was replaced, I’d have given full scores in all categories.

the accommodation was excellent, level of cleanliness was exemplary, the location was perfect, the only suggestion I have is to replace the mattress in the double bedroom as it is uncomfortable, you can feel the springs and you roll into the middle of the bed from the sides as it appears to sag.

overall an excellent stay. thank you very much!

Lovely cottage, great location and well equipped.

Our only suggestion would be that maybe a new mattress on the double bed would be good as it was not over comfy. But overall a really good stay , thank you

Bed was a bit hard and uncomfortable if you had telly on there was no where to plug fan in has most of unused sockets are round pin and there was 2 leather settees and only 2 tiny cushions apart from that had a lovely time and will be back

Lovely place

Good location.

Blinds in the front were very dirty and the outside could do with weeding and tiding. There were no instruction manuals at all ,struggled with the dishwasher and the cooker s knobs had worn off so didn't know which ones were which. We had no TV for 2 days , a man came but didn't know he was coming, he came early so a call beforehand would have been nice . No instructions for the black bag just recycling. Also the key safe kept getting stuck . Won't be staying again .

Great Cottage, nice layout, good facilities.

Nice and quiet and with that valuable parking space, so rare in Whitby

Good location which is made better if you know where to access the Cinder Track which is 3 minutes away round the back of the school and takes you into town or towards Scarborough, I feel that a leaflet or some information about this would enhance the stay in the cottage, really clean and well presented property.

A very comfortable and clean cottage.

The facilities provided were very good. The shower head lever on the bath upstairs was a little stiff and hard to operate but we managed. What would have helped is reference about routes to Whitby town. For the first two days we discovered the route across the busy road and down a very steep Bog Hall lane. Then we found the fantastic Cinder Trail around the cottage site that is a fabulous cycle/walker path leading to Whitby town centre or the other way to Scarborough. This is a really excellent, flat route and ideal for walkers, cyclists, families or disabled people. A safer route. More mapping and guides about this would attract lots of outdoor lovers. The river Esk and the railway path walk were the highlight of our stay. Another good thing we missed was recommendations about local events, eateries, museums, town trails etc. in the form of leaflets or on-line references. This would help develop a tourist approach and inform cottage guests about what they could choose to do. We were complete strangers in Whitby with little local knowledge. However, we loved our stay. Thank you so much.

We have stayed at mallard cottage a number of times and have loved every stay including this stay but it hadn’t had such a good clean this time we found 3 childrens cars ,a couple of crisps and a childrens juice bottle still full of pop under the sofa ,but wouldn’t let that stop us from returning as the place is lovely to stay in

A good place to stay for access to the town.

Cottage was warm and mainly comfortable. We found the beds a little entry level and very limited tv channels. WiFi was excellent so maybe a streaming device for tv would be helpful

The property was excellent, my wife and i have very busy jobs and needed time out, this was the perfect place for it.

Everything was very clean and the quality of everything was first class i cannot fault it. There were comments about noise at school times in reviews but we had no issues at all.

A lovely modern well presented cottage!

Warm and comfortable… within easy walking g distance of Whitby. Will certainly come again!!

Love it ,willbe back

Great sized accommodation for 2adults & 2 young children.

Everything In the property you needed. Short walk to Whitby Harbour

Lovely place not too far from all that Whitby is with parking right outside well equipped & very clean

Beautiful cottage - easily walkable to town centre.

Perfect home from home.

What a great cottage it had everything we could have asked for well laid out with a lot of attention to detail in the decor and spotless with two car parking spaces, its only ten minutes walk into Whitby but slightly more on the way back.

Only advice I would give to anyone going is to use the address and not the postcode in their GPS.

we have been holidaying at these cottages for several years and never had any problems.

we will be going back again

A lovely cottage that was exceptionally clean and with all the amenities you could think of.

They have really thought carefully about what people need to make their holiday enjoyable and as hassle free as possible. The wooden finish adds to its charm and as I say they have really thought of everything which in the current situation is reassuring. The cottage is located next to the Cinder track and a short walk to the harbour, town and a little further to the beach making it ideal for getting about either on bike or on foot. The only downside was the master bed which either needs replacing or repairing as it dips in the middle which means our nights sleep wasn't as comfortable as it could have been. Overall we had a fabulous stay and were very comfortable and loved our Staycation. Thank you Skyes and thank you owners of the Mallard Cottage.

A gem of a get-away place, well situated in Whitby, this was our second visit and won't be our last!

The Christmas tree and decorations were a lovely sight to greet us.

We could not fault any aspect of the cottage, and enjoyed our time so much we have booked for next Christmas.

We spend a lot of time researching places to stay for our holidays and it is always good when the accommodation meets your expectations.

When it exceeds your expectations, as with Mallard Cottage, it is obviously even better. We had a lovely break in a beautiful location, made better knowing we had such nice accommodation to return to each day.

beautiful cottage with just about everything you need.

Clean ,well laid out and spacious, it was a nice place to go back to after a day out.We enjoyed it so much we have already booked for next year.

Excellent cottage in a great location.

Well equipped and decorated to a high standard. Very good wet room on the ground floor and bathroom on first floor. Only downside was the boiler in room adjoining bedroom running almost constantly despite heating being off. (Reported to owner). Highly recommended for anyone who enjoys walking and sightseeing.

Mallard cottage was in a perfect location for everything we needed.

The footpath to the side of the cottage leads onto the Esk Valley footpath and the Cinder Track. Whitby is 5-10mins walk. It is a big hill back but there are bus stops opposite! Mallard is warm and cosy with everything you need. The bed is a little hard but didn’t stop us sleeping! Next return to Whitby we would definitely stay here again. There is some noise during the week at the school next door but we were up early anyway making sure we didn’t miss a minute!

Really pleased with Mallard Cottage.

We enjoyed the walk into Whitby, even though the hill is rather steep. We are thinking of going back next year. We were a little concerned about the school being so close but there was little or no noise, so nothing to complain about.

This is a very good property at which to stay despite the fact that if you walk into town then you face some hard climbs to get home.

(Taxi is about £5) It has a great aspect from the patio over toward the Abbey......perfect for sitting out on a warm night (which we unfortunately did not get!) with a glass of wine (which I did get!). It is a very convenient location for the moors and for the coastal run via Robin Hood's Bay (a must visit) down to Scarborough. A fixed shower and curtain would be beneficial in the upstairs bathroom. A better tin opener in the kitchen would be a good idea (I had to resort to my Swiss Army knife at one point). These are quite minor issues. I am notorious for being stingy with my responses to surveys but overall I would rate Mallard at 9.9. I am likely to be back in Whitby for the WW2 weekend in October but unfortunately Mallard is already booked. Pity. For the gastronomes I can recommend Magpie; Marine; and Fisherman's Wife.

The mattress was very old, hard and the springs kept popping.

Other than that ruining our sleep it was a nice cottage

We loved staying at Mallard Cottage.

The location is great and close to the marina. Facilities were good with everything a family may need for a stay at a cottage. The kids loved playing hide & seek and the mezzanine bedroom. I’d suggest taking slippers as the floor tiles were food but other than that we really enjoyed staying there. Will definitely book again.

The only issue we had was with the tv.

The signal was extremely poor on certain channels so was very limited as regards which programmes to watch.

The booking process is really straightforward and easy, we were kept informed from start to finish.

The cottage was excellent and in a really good location as stated on the website. Would definitely recommend using this company.

We shared the experience with friends who were equally impressed with the location, facilities and comfort of the cottage.

Mallard Cottage was ideal for myself and the couple with me who had limited mobility.

It was easy to collect the keys, and instructions for this were clear. The cottage itself was a touch difficult to find and a location map would have helped as the sat nav took us to the opposite side of the bridge. The Cottage was really delightful - clean, warm and well equipped, and just wonderful to relax in once the journey to the venue was complete. The beds were comfortable and the property gave panoramic views of Whitby, including the Abbey and St Mary’s Church in the distance. It was excellent to have dedicated parking right next the Cottage and the door of the property, which made loading and unloading the car a breeze. Whilst there is a school in close proximity we were informed prior to hiring the Cottage that this was the case, and this matter gave no cause for concern at all at the Cottage. We spent a couple of days visiting friends and relatives, and I was able to walk into town very easily from the Cottage, to enjoy shopping and soaking up the marvellous atmosphere of the town, and could easily have walked to see friends living in the area. We had a really amazing stay enhanced by the facilities at, and the convenience of Mallard Cottage. We would certainly recommend the venue to others and plan to return in the future ourselves.

Fantastic little cottage, beautifully fitted out, high end appliances - en suite for both bedrooms huge bonus!

10 minute walk to the town, glorious weather fabulous holiday - thank you

A nice clean little cottage.

Like most cottages we have booked that sleep 4 we find only 4 seats, it would be nice to have larger or an extra seat to relax more. We could only find 1 tea towel and could not find the clove to open the log burner. But saying this, it is still a lovely cottage.

Excellent cottage one of the best

Excellent location for Whitby and the surrounding area.

Well finished and very comfortable cottage kept immaculately clean. Would recommend to family and friends and consider booking again.

I have always found Sykes so easy to deal with each time I have booked.

Lovely cottage within walking distance of Whitby centre but must walk down steep hill if wishing to walk to centre otherwise 5 minute drive .

Second time we've visited this cottage lovely interior especially mezzanine floor with king size bed and sky lights . Lovely and clean both times we've been here and every thing you need only a few channels on the tv though. Whitby lovely to walk around and nice long beach to walk along also nice view of the abbey from cottage. Separate twin bedroom with wet room down stairs and enough parking for 2 cars .

In a very busy location.

Next to the coach parking for a senior school although the children were very quiet when arriving and leaving. In the evening and all weekend there is a steady stream of cars parking outside and then taking dogs for walks. Also vans arriving and leaving with cyclists using the cinder path. The cottage was very clean and modern with every facility. It is such a shame about the constant racket going on outside the front door!

The only negatives i could give about this property ( and they are minor ) are 1.

The windows could do with a clean 2. The downstairs bedroom could do with a small set of draws. Besides this we could not fault the accomodation , i would say it has been one of the best we have stayed in.
