About the location

FYLINGTHORPE

Robin Hood's Bay 0.6 miles; Whitby 5.2 miles; Scarborough 15.8 miles.

Resting within a stone's throw of the delightful fishing village of Robin Hood's Bay is the sweet village of Fylingthorpe. Lying inland from the coast following a steep winding road, this settlement was most likely of Scandinavian origin from the 9th century, and is today a bustling village scattered with quaint cottages and several amenities. Pick up some fresh loaves from the little bakery Barnard's or stock up on some essentials from the local shop, Thorpe Stores. The Fylingdales Inn offers a welcoming place to sip a pint after a busy day of walking the North Yorkshire coast, while a wider selection of pubs and bars can be found in the neighbouring village of Robin Hood's Bay, with some even providing a picturesque sea view. From here hop onto the Cleveland Way when you are beginning to explore and walk up to the wonderful Whitby town centre, where a host of delights await you; visit the eerie Whitby Abbey, said to have inspired Bram Stoker when he wrote Dracula, and then walk down the 199 Steps towards the beach. Enjoy wandering around Whitby Museum, take a Whitby Storyteller Guided Walk, or go to The Endeavour Experience to learn about how sailing was years ago. Fylingthorpe makes for a wonderful base to discover the host of attractions of North Yorkshire.
