Make Mother’s Day Special
Mother’s Day is this Sunday 30th March this year, so if you’re looking for the perfect way to celebrate, why not head to God Own County for some quality time with your Mum! The Yorkshire Coast is a stunning place to celebrate Mother's Day with a variety of activities to suit all tastes. Here's a list of our favourite things to do around the Yorkshire Coast:
1. Scarborough

Afternoon Tea at a Seafront Café: Scarborough has a range of charming seaside cafés offering delicious afternoon teas, The Yew Tree Café and Olivers on the Mount is a one of our favourites due it having a fantastic sea view, perfect for a relaxing Mother’s Day treat.

Scarborough Castle: Explore the stunning grounds and enjoy panoramic views of the coast from this historic castle. You can also take a stroll through the nearby gardens too to work off those afternoon tea calories.

Spa Day at the Crown Spa Hotel: Why not treat Mum to a luxurious spa day with a sea view. The Crown Spa is known for its rejuvenating treatments and relaxing atmosphere.
2. Whitby

Visit Whitby Abbey: A must do if you are visiting Whitby make your way up the 199 steps to stroll around the iconic Whitby Abbey, which inspired Bram Stoker’s “Dracula,” offers history and breath taking views.

Boat Trip on the River Esk: Whatever the weather a boat trip can be a fun and relaxing way to see Whitby from a different perspective. Don’t forget your binoculars to spot wildlife too.

Lunch at a Seafront Restaurant: Whitby is renowned for its fish and chips, but you can also enjoy a delightful lunch at one of the many restaurants or pubs overlooking the harbour.

3. Filey

Filey Brigg and the Beach: If you are staying or visiting the lovely town of Filey, not be missed if your Mum loves nature and walks, is the scenic walk around Filey Brigg and along the long, sandy beach.

Visit the Filey Bird Garden & Animal Park: Especially for animal lovers, Filey Bird Garden & Park is a great spot with various animals and birds, perfect for a family outing.

4. Robin Hood’s Bay

Coastal Walks: Robin Hood’s Bay is one of our favourite coastal villages. Tucked away, the bay is part of the Cleveland Way, offering stunning cliff-top walks with panoramic views of the sea and the Yorkshire coastline.

Visit Local Shops and Cafés: This hidden gem of a village has charming cobbled streets filled with quirky shops and local cafés where you can enjoy tea or coffee.
5. Flamborough Head

Cliff Walks: If your Mum enjoys the outdoors, the famous Flamborough Head offers some amazing coastal walks with dramatic views over the cliffs and the sea, perfect place for bird spotting too!

6. Bridlington

Steam Train Ride: If you want to combine nature and nostalgia, the North Yorkshire Moors Railway offers scenic train rides, often stopping at picturesque villages like Goathland (which was used as Hogsmeade in Harry Potter).
