“The cottage itself is excellent and we enjoyed our stay.”

It is comfortable and well equipped. The location is great. It is against all the many positives that with regret I am leaving what may be seen as negative feedback. I am sorry to do this. The main thing for me was that the cottage was not as clean as I would expect. There were large dusty cobwebs in the living room around the furniture and lamps and across the window and in one of the bedrooms. It is the only time I can recall having to reach for a feather duster shortly after arrival. ...

The floor was not properly clean. A highchair had been left out and there was dirt around it and just under the cupboard and other furniture. Worse still there were lots of large cobwebs hanging in two of the base cupboards and immediately hanging down as you opened the doors. You couldn’t get into the cupboard. Feather dusting kitchen cupboards was a first for me. Some of the crockery was dirty and had not been checked. The two frying pans need replacing. They both stick horribly as the non stick surface has worn off. The handle on one wobbles so much it feels like it will fall off. The side panels of the bath are dirty and need cleaning. The bathroom door is very swollen and sticks horribly. It needs to be freed. The bathroom is otherwise really well fitted with quality appliances and a good shower. It is such a pity. The toilet brush was broken and unusable with the handle completely detached. How did the cleaners not notice? The absence of a useable toilet brush was unacceptable. I am really sorry to have to give what will seem like negative comments. I really didn’t want to do this. The cottage is great but the quality of cleaning detracted from it. We felt the cottage and owners were let down by this.

About the location

SANDSEND

Whitby 2.5 miles.

Lying on Yorkshire's spectacular Heritage Coastline, Sandsend is the ideal place for a family holiday with its award winning, wide sweeping beaches, rock pools and dramatic cliffs. Indeed this part of the coastline is known locally as the Dinosaur Coast because of the many fossils found here. Children will enjoy damming the little beck where it crosses the beach to form a freshwater lagoon - great (and safe) for paddling and boating! For the more energetic the village sits on the lovely long distance Cleveland Way Trail, which offers great off-road cycling along the disused coastal railway as well as breathtaking clifftop walks. The National Trust now own the nearby headland, Sandsend Ness, where there is a delightful nature trail in the old quarry pits. A special place offering something for everyone!
