The Retreat

Lovely nice sized house in a quiet spot.

It has a well equipped kitchen Short drive to the shops, 10 minutes drive to the beach. Only criticisms- third single bed is uncomfortable for an adult, & the TV is not a smart Tv, limiting what can be watched.

The Retreat is a lovely, warm, well equipped house in a quiet & pretty location.

It has most of the comforts of home, & there was plenty of room for the 4 of us, including two young children. A lot of information about the places to visit was also supplied. We have booked it again for 2026. The downsides were a small, not smart, tv which meant the children were limited in what they could watch when we were indoors. Also the mattress on the single bed in the smallest bedroom was very lumpy & uncomfortable. Fine for a child, but not good for an adult, even a small one like me.

Lovely property, very warm and cosy but needs money spending on it.

A little bit of maintenance would make a huge difference. I would have liked to go out on the balcony as we had a couple of lovely sunny mornings but it was covered in algae and was a complete waste of what should be an added attraction to this property. The oven was filthy and needed a good clean.

Perfect location.

But perhaps advise future Guests of the seemingly permanent closure of Larpool Lane. Can't access the cottage from Ruswarp.

This property was lovely in fact just perfect.

Really clean and everything you needed available. Ideal location perfect for walking if you wanted to walk. Easy access to Whitby and other locations. Would definitely recommend

A very comfortable house where we enjoyed our holiday very much.

My autistic grandson loved he evening walks on Larpool viaduct. Everything we needed was there . My only small criticism is that it would be good to have the carpark fully marked with the allocated spaces. All in all this is a great place to stay.

We were very impressed with the property, well furnished, beautifully clean and warm (important this week as the weather was cold!

). The guest information was useful and everything worked as it should. My only suggestion is to have something in the guest information about what should be done before leaving (crockery all clean and put away, strip bed, empty bins etc). I hope we did all that was expected.

Lack of basic maintainace eg: bulbs in the wardrobe not working.

Roller blinds in the bedroom not attached to the roller. Bathroom blind & downstairs blind not able to drop all the way down. Kitchen table had burn marks on the surface.
