The Granary

This was our fourth visit to the Granary with another booked.

‘Nuff said.

We had a wonderful stay at the Granary.

We spent all of our time in the conservatory when not out and about. When we arrived, my first job was to put the kettle on for a nice cup of tea. The cups were tea stained and the scourer looked as though it was in desperate need of replacement. We purchased new ones on our first day out. This was the only negative about our whole stay. The bed was super comfy and bedding crisp and white. The garden was beautiful and it was a joy to see the hens. The Granary was in a fab position for travelling around. We ate in the pub restaurant every night and found the staff and locals very friendly. Would definitely recommended The Granary for a visit to the North Yorkshire Moors.

Our favourite holiday cottage destination set in a wonderful peaceful villagel location with walks in every direction.

We loved the quiet location, set back from the village road.

The Granary was well-equipped and comfortable, making it a perfect base to explore the moor. Having the excellent Moors Inn just along the road was a bonus. We would not hesitate to stay here again.

The cottage was lovely, it had everything that we could of needed. The fire in the living room was amazing. The bedrooms were comfortable and warm. The owners were very helpfully and chatty. It was good to have a secured gate with a fob. The pub was very close at hand and they were very cheerful.Thank you for a great Christmas break.

We really enjoyed our holiday there. Excellent choice of you want to explore the moors or the market towns and nearby attractions. Appleton le Moors itself is a picturesque village with a proper local pub. Everyone there is friendly and the food is very good.

We enjoyed a great week at the Granary.

The sunroom provided a bright and peaceful space to relax. The location was a great base to explore the North Yorkshire Moors and we visited York and Whitby as well as local attractions such as Eden Camp.

Owners nearby and available and very personable. Very close proximity to a lovely pub The Moors Inn serving lovely food and choice of quality beers. This was our third stay and won’t be our last!!!

Had a lovely stay with my granddaughter.

Plenty of little villages to visit. Went to nunnington hall , the abbey ruins, James herriot museum. Cottage was peacefully and very well placed for various visits we made. Owners very nice and helpful even gave my granddaughter a book on churches as we love visiting churches which was awfully generous of them she loves the book

We have just very much enjoyed our third visit to the Granary.

The fourth is booked for later this year. That speaks for itself. We love it.

Lovely cottage , lovely viilage with excellent food at the local pub.

A bit disappointed when we arrived walked into a freezing cottage, mop and bucket and hoover left out and broken tree ornaments left on chair. Would have been more welcoming if a few lamps were left on and some heating. We would go back again but not in winter the cottage is very cold and the wall heaters are not really up to keeping it warm. The open fire is not as warm as a log burner. But clean and comfortable and good location.

This was our fourth visit to the Granary which really tells its own story.

We love the location, peaceful atmosphere & how the owners are on hand if needed, although we never do as there’s everything you need for a relaxing holiday. I hesitate to mention but one thing we noticed this time is the settee is probably near to being replaced but will not stop us booking again. Still a fabulous holiday cottage !

Was an ok cottage, not amazing, underfloor heating not that good, other heaters didnt give much heat so used a portable heater when we were in the cottage, but, being december, we expected it not to be like it would be in the summer.

the guys that owned it were very pleasant, very helpful.

The village is very quiet and the local pub very welcoming. It was our second stay at The Granary and we like it so much, we have booked it again for the same week next year!

From arriving, to leaving, we had the best time. It’s the first time we’ve stayed in a cottage for a holiday and will only do these holidays from now on. The Granary itself is just beautiful, set in the glorious Appleton-Le-Moors. Everything you can think of is catered for, from all your cutlery through to board games. The pub in the village called the Moors is great. The Granary owners are just the most attentive people, so kind, friendly and helpful. We’re never sad when it’s time for us to go home, but we were when we left here. We will definitely be returning

A lovely, tastefully furnished cottage that feels like a home from home.

The garden room is fantastic and the grounds, including the owner's garden are beautiful. The cottage is well placed to explore the area. We had a meal at the local pub, the Moors Inn and it was superb. The only negative is that the small garden immediately outside the property isn't fenced in for dogs but we knew that when we booked. Thank you for a lovely stay

We had a wonderful week in this quiet, comfortable cottage.

The sun room was perfect for chilling and we spent a lot time in there. The weather was perfect all week so we were also able to sit out on the patio. The Moors Inn is practically on the doorstep serving tasty food and is dog friendly. We will look to return in the future.

We have been here for the last 6 years and have already booked for 2026.

The cottage is well-equipped and comfortable. The large garden is a great space and the kids loved feeding the chickens. The cottage is in a great location and a good base for exploring the area. The owners are very friendly and we would definitely return again.

Amazing week in a fantastic property , it’s so beautiful we were reluctant to spend time away from the village and property.

Hosts were very friendly and accommodating and replied to our queries quickly prior to arriving. Beautiful garden which we could access fully with our dog. WiFi was poor and could benefit with boosting as the TV was constantly buffering. Apart from this minor detail, everything was perfect and as described

The cottage is comfortable, warm and well maintained with a lovely garden. Its position is perfect, close to Pickering, Kirkbymoorside and Helmsley but in a beautiful quiet village with a fabulous pub serving wonderful food. What more could you ask for?

This was our second visit to the Granary & we are already thinking about when we can go back.

It has everything you need for a relaxing break, the conservatory is a brilliant place to unwind and the fire is great when it gets chilly. The owners are just across the driveway if needed which is good as they are very friendly. All in all 5* plus!!

A couple of minor issues with kitchen equipment were raised with the owner.

Otherwise, this is a comfortable cottage in lovely quiet surroundings in which we felt very much at home.

Beautiful cottage with comfy beds, we were also delighted to find some milk for a cuppa on arrival and some delicious biscuits.

The cottage is central to lots of site seeing spots, the hosts have loads of maps to help you, as signal for phones etc is patchy. Would suggest booking for dinners at any restaurants in advance to avoid disappointment. Would definitely go back!

Set in a peaceful location, it's ideal for stunning walks in the area without the need to drive. We thoroughly enjoyed making use of the facilities especially the sun room during the day for reading or bird watching and the cosy fire in the evening. Well equipped, warm and surprisingly spacious, especially downstairs. Would definitely recommend!

Gorgeous cottage with all what you need for a short break.

We have stayed in a number of Sykes cottages and this was certainly the best to date.

The cottage is small but very comfortable, with a lovely open fire and extremely comfortable beds. The garden room was a delight. The location is also wonderful. The Granary is within a lovely garden in a very quiet village but with easy access to the nearest supermarket (some five minutes away by car) and with the wonderful Moors Inn only three or four doors away. This is not only a superb dog friendly pub but it serves excellent food. We would suggest booking evening meals in advance before coming along to the cottage if you like to eat out. It is busy even on week nights. Would we return to the cottage again? Certainly and without hesitation. The Granary is highly recommended.

The owners Jamie and Joel are welcoming and live adjacent to the cottage if needed. Comfortable beds and a lovely garden room ,two minute walk to The Moors Inn which does great food and is a traditional welcoming pub. In all another lovely week in Appleton -le- Moors.

The Granary is the perfect place for a quiet , peaceful and enjoyable stay.

The cottage has everything you could possibly need for a great holiday and both Jamie & Joel were the perfect hosts. Surrounded by absolutely stunning countryside , the walks through the surrounding woods and countryside were a joy to behold. The local pub , The Moors Inn , just 4 doors down was the ideal place for an early evening relaxing pint or two after a long day and the food there was superb. So many wonderful villages all within easy reach to discover as well.

The moors inn pub 2 minutes away for good food. Dalby forest is a must for cyclists and some lovely walks on your doorstep. Will definitely be back.

Thank you. Tastful, comfortable and peaceful location. Only slight snag was we couldn't get the TV to work other than catch up. It didn't matter to us as we were busy out and about but may need a look at for other guests?

This is probably the finest holiday property we have stayed in.

It’s in an amazing position, clean & the conservatory is lovely. The owners were just across the driveway if needed but we hardly saw them. They have gone to a lot of trouble in making sure you have everything you need. By the way, the fire is awesome . Thanks for a relaxing holiday!,

A really nice, well kept and comfortable cottage in a great setting.

It is very well equipped with everything you could need for a great stay. We would have no hesitation in recommending this cottage to others and fully intend to return hopefully later this year.

The Moors Inn was great, good food and very friendly clientele, just remember to book if you want to eat! House was lovely, very clean, just right size for us and our heavyweight Boxer dog Louis!!

clean and comfortable, charming cottage in a lovely village

A happy return visit to this delightful cottage, tucked away in a spacious traditional village but close to the Moors and the delights of its towns.

The owners are reassuringly on hand across the courtyard and - as always - made us welcome and dealt quickly with any questions or problems. Their amiable cat also said hello! It's well stocked with cooking utensils, equipment and big fridge; and there's now a handy Co-op supermarket less than 10 minutes away at Kirbymoorside, as well as a Jet petrol station. A charming patio garden makes sitting outside convenient in the summer. All in all highly recommendable, especially for a couple.

We had a lovely stay 5/12 Aug cottage beautiful location with brilliant views, however patio area not secure for dogs when dog friendly advertised they can wonder into owners own court yard & garden.

Venue was brilliant with excellent pub 2mins walk & excellent food “Moor inn pub” fully recommend with lovely food & dogs very welcome. The furniture in cottage & patio could benefit from more comfortable seats however the cottage was ideal for our needs & we will return. Thank you Elaine & ken ball

Great base for exploring the area. Jamie & Joel were excellent hosts. The village has a lovely Pub offering great food but be sure to book as it's very popular.

We had a wonderful week in a quiet surrounding with very attentative owners

Beautiful cottage in a lovely spot.

A particular feature is the garden. You had your own patio area but the owners allowed you use of their garden with your own garden bench under a tree and that made our holiday (and the dog’s!) It was lovely spot to relax in the evenings. When the temperature dipped a bit at night, the conservatory (which overlooked the garden was also a lovely relaxing place with comfy furniture and it was warm and cosy. The pub (only 4 doors down) was in our view the best pub in the area and the locals were so welcoming. The hosts (who live opposite) were also very friendly towards us and nothing seemed too much trouble. We will return!

Everything we needed and more. So peaceful and it was a treat to be able to enjoy the gorgeous garden too. A good base for exploring the NYMoors. We may well return!

Also less than a hundred yards away is the Moors inn (very dog friendly) and serving excellent food. l

The location is wonderful, the gardens beautiful and the property very comfortable.

The owners are on site to deal with any problems ,not that we had any . The local pub is friendly and the food looked very good. The Granary is well worth a visit.

The Granary was a great place to stay, very comfortable and cosy with a lovely conservatory to enjoy a morning coffee whilst watching the wildlife in the garden, the kitchen was very well equipped with utensils although we did not need to use much as the pub a few doors down served excellent food!

Delightful cottage in a lovely village with a great local pub a few moments from the property.

Peaceful area, with views overlooking the fields of sheep and the garden (which is shared with the owners - who live next door). Tastefully and attractively decorated, and we enjoyed the open fire given it was winter. Plenty of places to visit within an hour's drive of the cottage in all directions. It's a great spot!

Very pleasant cottage with friendly owners in a lovely area; excellent pub close by, and plenty of local walks.

Also well placed for making visits to the coast or inland to heritage sites such as Rievaulx Abbey and local market towns.

An enjoyable return visit to this beautiful cottage situated in a quiet village but close enough to all the amenities needed.

The owners are unobtrusive but on hand if there are any queries and offering those wee touches which make you feel so welcome - fabulous home-made cake & jam this time (thanks guys!). The tranquillity is heavenly and the range of walks from the doorstep plentiful to keep us occupied. Highly recommended.

This was our fourth Oct/ Nov holiday at The Granary and again we were delighted to return to this lovely holiday home.

As ever, we found everything ready and pristine for our arrival. We were blessed with a wonderful week’s weather ( apart from one day) and so were able to enjoy the different walks in the area. Our Springer, Harry, is never happier than when he is at Appleton. The Moors Inn is as reliable as ever and we enjoyed a family meal to celebrate October and November birthdays which we had to cancel last year. Everything about our week’s stay was excellent and thank you once again Jamie and Joel for your hospitality. We intend to book The Granary for the same week next year and are looking forward already. The peace and quiet, the fire and the skies at night are all bonuses. Thank you so much. Anna and John Mack and family.

A very enjoyable, peaceful Autumn Break in a beautiful quiet setting.

Our hosts were very amenable and there if you needed them. We will certainly be returning next year and would highly recommend the cottage.

Lovely, comfortable cottage in a beautiful setting and village.

A bit compact, especially if 4 adults sharing and may be different furniture/layout would help. Kitchen has most of everything you need. All holiday lets vary and this one had kitchen roll, dishwasher stuff and access to cleaning equipment (which somd don’t), there was no washing up liquid (if you prefer to wash up by hand). The added garden room is lovely to sit and read while watching the birds and squirrels. The owners live onsite but weren’t intrusive at all. There is a lovely patio for the cottage and the owners are happy for visitors to walk down their garden if they aren’t using it. Beautiful garden and chickens to feed your old greens and banana skins! Who knew, but they love them

We had a relaxing week in beautiful surroundings, very peaceful. The cottage has everything you could ever need and is perfectly situated for exploring the North Yorkshire Moors. Lovely to arrive to fresh flowers coffee and jam with shortbread. Enough logs to light a good fire on a chilly evening. Hope to return next year.

Jamie and Joel are great hosts and have an absolute amazing cottage.

The cottage was lovely , it was the first time we have had a cottage within the owners grounds but The cottage was very private.

Wonderfully clean and well appointed. The welcome tea, jam and shortbread was a lovely touch.

We spent an absolutely fabulous weekend at this cottage in January.

The photographs don't do justice. Immaculately clean with all facilities needed and more. Log fire was set up with good supply of logs. The friendly local pub is well worth a visit and food was there was superb. Lovely memories and definitely would return.

We were given flowers, eggs and milk and the owner was a very pleasant. The surrounding pubs in the area were very friendly and welcoming to both us and our dog. We will go back and stay at the Granary in the New Year so that we can explore the North Yorkshire Moor area further.

The cottage had fabulous gardens where we could sit late afternoon after a busy day out walking. Just very peaceful as well off the road and very private. Appleton le Moors is a lovely village with a very good pub for food. Jamie and Joel were around to sort out any queries and offer advice on the area, which was greatly appreciated. The fresh eggs from their hens down the garden were an added bonus as were the milk, tea,coffee and biscuits awaiting us on our arrival. I would definitely recommend this property to relatives and friends. We enjoyed our stay so much that we are already planning to visit again either later in the year or next spring.

Lovely, comfy cottage in an amazing location.

Owners live opposite and could not have been more welcoming. Lots of nice touches too ( flowers,eggs, milk, tea, coffee & biscuits on arrival!) Everyone we met in the village were really friendly and the pub (4 doors down) had wonderful food & was a real hub for the village.

The granery cottage was so perfect in all ways.

, loved the consvertory over looking the garden so peaceful to sit in and day or evening very comfy bed and what lovely touches with the tea and coffe and biscuits when we arrived plus the fresh eggs it is one of the best cottages we have stayed in we will book again David and Emma Bates and Louie the dog .

Lovely cottage and great location.

It would have been slot better for us if we would have had outside space enclosed so our dog could go out safely and in his own place. Not great as it was open onto garden of owners so better with a gate being added I think. The only thing inside was the shower you couldn’t get the right temperature and not much power in it. Apart from that lovely cottage and lovely owner very friendly

Holiday was fabulous with the surrounding countryside being exceptional.

The walks available around the area were amazing and the little pub next to the cottage was lovely and friendly. The cottage was set in gorgeous gardens with an abundance of wildlife, the television was not needed as spent most of the time watching their antics. The cottage itself was lovely and comfortable with some nice touches by the owners helping you to settle in. They were on hand if you required anything.

We had a lovely holiday at the granary it has a beautiful setting in the village of Appleton -le moors, we will be back.

The owners were brilliant and extremely helpful. We've stayed in a lot of holiday cottages and The Granary is up there with the best.

We loved the cottage.

The village is easily accessible from the main road but has lovely rural feeling about it. Sheep have the right to roam around the villiage so the property is gated. I’d love to go & visit when it’s the lambing season. The cottage itself is in a private corner that overlooks the gorgeous gardens of the main house. It has its own patio area with tables and chairs overlooking the garden. The cottage was cozy & well equipped. There’s a pub a couple of doors away that serves great food & Pickering is about a 10 minute drive with a couple of restaurants.

Warm,cosy,well stocked kitchen. Shower could have more power. Perfectly positioned for moors and coast touring. Local pubs serve marvellous food.

The Granary gave us the perfect week away, peaceful, yet with a great pub really close, and an ideal position for exploring the area, both by car and by foot.
