“On arrival next door dogs were barking and yapping.”

This appears to be a regular issue as also mentioned in other review "Attached Neighbours, with three small Dogs, you really need to have a word with them, they leave the Dogs to bark and Howl all day, hardly fair on them and us". Main issue however is the front main bedroom window is insufficiently maintained. Whilst we appreciate it was very windy (which the owner very kindly pointed out he had no control over the weather) some repair would have prevented the severe draught coming through ...

Whilst we appreciate it was very windy (which the owner very kindly pointed out he had no control over the weather) some repair would have prevented the severe draught coming through which meant it was too cold to sleep in that room for 3 nights. Also curtains may have helped. So single beds it was for the first time ever in our married life. That said, the hot tub was lovely, the cottage was comfortable downstairs but watch out for the damaged flooring in the kitchen. Read up on how to use the Nest Thermostat as there are no instructions. Probably a good base for the lovely surrounding area, but husband was recovering from surgery so the dogs did spoilt it for us.

About the location

CLOUGHTON

Scarborough 4.8 miles; Ravenscar 6.3 miles; Robin Hood's Bay 11.6 miles; Whitby 14.8 miles.

Cloughton lies just under five miles north of Scarborough, on the edge of the North York Moors National Park. Home to old cottages lining the main street and more modern developments behind, the village boasts an eclectic mix of contemporary and traditional to bring a charming atmosphere to all its visitors, as well as offering a welcoming farm shop where you can pick up any essentials and two pubs on the main street and two on the outskirts. Close by is the popular 'Cinder Track', a disused 23 mile long railway track, that's now used for walking, cycling and horse riding. There is easy access to the Cleveland Way, a long distance trail that hugs the cliff top as it winds its way to Hayburn Wyke, a rocky cove with a waterfall and inn, Robin Hood's Bay and beyond to the north and south to Scarborough. Popular since Victorian times, this vibrant seaside town of Scarborough retains many of its original fine buildings, parks and gardens, as well as its historic castle which overlooks the town. North Bay and South Bay provide two superb stretches of beautiful, golden sandy beaches, popular with families and small children. There are a number of child-friendly activities and many excellent visitor attractions for grown-ups too, including the Stephen Joseph Theatre, Scarborough Spa and Scarborough Open Air Theatre for live music. There are plenty of outdoor activities within easy reach too, with golf courses, coastal walks along the Cleveland Way, stunning cycle routes such as the old railway to Whitby, beautiful sailing and championship quality surfing, offering something for every taste. Ideally situated for touring both the coast and countryside, Cloughton is an ideal base for a fun-filled break at any time of year.
