A lovely little cottage perfect for long coastal walks with your dog.

There is also a very good bus service to Scarborough and Whitby if you don’t fancy driving. The downstairs bathroom proved less of a problem than I thought so I would definitely stay here again.

Puffin cottage is a small comfortable accommodation.

Bedding towels etc all good. Garden safe for dogs sadly the grass was straw as in all of our gardens. The Blacksiths Arms was brilliant great food and service. Plus we had a lovely walk the see the sea. The owner Kaytee was helpful and very thoughtful. As a footnote this cottage would be fantastic for younger people.

A lovely little cottage in a great location for visiting all that the beautiful Yorkshire coast has to offer.

Safe enclosed garden for the dogs, enjoyed the “secret garden” lovely to sit with a book. Parking at the rear was useful. Loved the radio in the kitchen, it made it all very homely. Friendly neighbours. I have rented many holiday homes and it’s very rare that I return to the same one but I fully intend to visit Puffin Cottage again. Thank you.

.. sadly there's a few things that weren't as expected, and I am sorry to leave a negative review as I've never felt strong enough to do this previously. But having paid £920 for a week in June, I felt it was important. 1. The parking situation is misleading. When looking at the images and online maps, its quite easy to be led to believe that the parking is at the side of the house, it is not. Its up a small road 3-4 doors down, around the back of the house. Getting to it can be quite tight (depending on how the neighbours have parked along the same lane) and the parking is big enough for two small/medium cars only. I would not recommend if parking larger vehicles. On road parking is an option but the cottage is on a main road that is quite busy, so caution is needed there too. I understand it is an old terraced house so parking might be a challenge, but clarity is needed there so that everyone is well informed when booking. 2. The pictures on this listing are quite old. When we arrived there is now a large overgrown bush at the front, and weeds all over the front garden. Not the end of the world but it did make a scruffy first impression. 3. Slight smell of damp as you enter the property but to be fair its an older building. The bathroom is downstairs, and whilst there is an extractor fan, the window was locked shut so I don't think this helped. 4. Our main complaint here - the cottage is advertised as pet friendly, and then on arrival, there's a gate on the stairs and no pets are allowed up. Given how people now like to keep their dogs compared to 20 years ago, i think this is something that should be mentioned on the listing to allow people to make an informed decision. 5. We arrived in a heatwave, but there were no fans etc. Luckily we'd bought our own but that would have been a nice touch - especially considering that the upstairs rooms were like ovens! 6. The house didnt feel as clean as others we have stayed in - a dirty pair of socks was found in one drawer, some old food in the freezer, dust piling up in corners, mugs and glasses were not very clean in the cupboards and we rewashed them all. I hoovered and wiped around before we headed home and the dust I found wasn't just a week's worth. 7. The place is missing some of the smaller touches that make a stay special. Of course you don't expect them, but as I mentioned - at £920 a week for a small terraced house, a note of welcome, some milk in the fridge etc, goes a long way. On reading the visitor book in the property, this had been done previously. 8. The second bedroom is very small for a double - would be better suited to bunk beds. Hardly room to move around. Again, photos were misleading. I am sorry to leave such a negative review. The cottage is well placed for exploring the Yorkshire coast - everything felt close-by and the area itself, including the village of Cloughton, is so lovely. But at the price that is being charged for this property (and I can see it is not booked up for the summer and price reductions are being offered here) I think the above issues need addressing.

Well equipped with cooking utensils, games & even dog treats. Comfy settees & beds.

Great little cottage, great location four doors down from the red lion pub made us feel very welcome, owner decorated the cottage for Xmas which made it feel homely, we took three small dogs which they loved it especially the walks, wouldn’t recommend if you had problems with stairs but it does state that in the information, had everything we needed, didn’t want to leave had a fantastic week hopefully we will be back next year, if you had any questions I emailed owner and she replied back straight away, would highly recommend.

We enjoyed our stay overall at the lovely cottage.

The beds were comfy, the shower excellent and there were great facilities. The dogs loved the garden too. In terms of improvement, one of the sofas wasn't quite as supportive as hoped, a frying pan wasn't up to scratch (think someone had burnt the bottom beyond reuse, one of the spatulas was similar) so the utensils need a quick check. Our dogs are small 3.5kg, able to get through the garden gate design at the end, so would be useful if this could be covered. Think was mentioned in a previous review. However, these are fairly minor. We would book again as really handy for Scarborough, Whitby and York.

Puffin cottage is a beautiful place to stay, lots of lovely touches and plenty of home comforts everything you could need has been thought of by the owners.

Set in a wonderful area with fantastic walks on the doorstep, some lovely pubs nearby and a log burner for those chilly nights. 3 dogs and 4 adults had a fabulous holiday!

Cosy ,clean and fully fitted out. Ideal place for seeing Scarborough,Whitby etc . Had a fantastic break here, a big thank you to the owners.

Lovely little cottage.

Perfect for walks from the door. It had all we needed. Great idea having a stair gate (took a little working out on my part ha ha). I would like to mention that dog proofing could be better. We had to improvise to keep our Chi secure. The fencing area around the steps has gaps large enough for small terriers to get through. Once we’d had secured it ourselves the dogs loved the garden. The food at the pubs within walking distance is very nice indeed. And they are dog friendly. Would love to revisit next year.

Very disappointed with the cottage.

Feel no one has visited the cottage recently.So many obvious things need to be done. Blinds or nets needed at windows. Very basic clothes storage in front bedroom and back bedroom. Back bedroom very cramped. Stairs were a challenge. Pans in kitchen very dated. Bathroom no lock on door very high step in bath with no anti slip mat not great for older people. No cleaning products provided at all. Large radiator not working.Extractor fan in kitchen with a very greasy cord, would appear to designed for a bathroom.We found the settees uncomfortable.Tv was difficult to use ,as it is an app only set we had to stream ITVX to a tablet to watch as no passwords were available. Rear porch does not have a weatherproof door. Not fair to guests cottage needs attention.

The positives: - Big garden - Spacious property with lounge, kitchen and dining area downstairs and a large bathroom - Comfy sofas and beds - Well equipped The negatives: - Had a funny smell almost like someone had been smoking inside and tried to cover it up with cleaning products or incense - The wall between the garden and next door neighbours was very low (knee height). Not much privacy when outside - The parking around the back is challenging. If you aren’t a confident driver, or you have large car I would avoid or park on the road - Is a pet friendly property but unable to leave pets unattended, takes away from the holiday feel if you can’t go out without your pet, no meals out! Overall we had a great stay for 2 nights, but probably wouldn’t recommend the property for a longer stay.

It was well equipped with everything we needed for our short stay The rear garden was enclosed and enjoyed by our 3 dogs. The steps at the back of the house and the stairs are steep but this is mentioned in description of the property I would definitely recommend this property

Nice, clean and compact cottage with everything you need.

Some great walks nearby and only a few minutes drive into Scarborough. Great gardens at the rear, the top one has great views across a small valley. Would definitely return.

Lovely cottage in a beautiful area of Yorkshire.

A lovely cottage set in an ideal place for visiting lots of coastal areas.

Great for walking or rambling right on your doorstep. The cottage was well equipped for eating in. And comfy to sit back and relax at night either in the garden or inside if the weather is a bit pants. Which it was for a few days. It didn't stop us getting out and about though. Our 3 dogs loved the garden which is a must for us.. We will be back as there was a a few more areas we wanted to visit but ran out of time. Thankyou for a lovely stay

We had a wonderful stay in this beautiful cottage.

Our dog loved the enclosed garden, and the views from the summer house garden are beautiful. The only thing we found, was the mattress in the main bedroom was very firm for us, but that is just personal preference, easily solved by a move to the other bedroom, where the mattress is softer

Beautiful, stylishly decorated cottage, with all the amenities that you would need for a break away in the gorgeous surroundings of North Yorkshire.

We loved it and would definitely recommend it.

Puffin cottage is a lovely well equipped cottage, it's in an ideal place for doing different walks, this was our first time here, we explored the surrounding area and was not disappointed, coming back to the cottage after a day's walking and having a log fire is just the best!

Could not fault this little gem and I can highly recommend it and will be booking in the future Adele,mark & reggie

Lovely stay again in this comfy, cosy cottage.

Will be returning again next year. Boiler went off on 1st day, we contacted the friendly, helpful housekeeper and the gas engineer soon arrived to sort this, no further issues all week. Looking forward to coming back.

This is our 2nd stay at Puffin Cottage, our last visit was 12 months ago.

We very much enjoyed our stay again and most things were the same. Luna our dog finds it a home from home. We very much appreciated the much larger replacement LG TV in the lounge. Great addition to the cottage! The salt stored in the utility room was very welcome for the back steps after the snow. We did find that the radiator in the bathroom was not working so we ended up leaving the door open so it was at least warm in there and put the damp towels over the other radiators. There are two ceiling lights in the bathroom. The light over the toilet flickers and is very dull and ideally needs replacing. We went to use the log burner. There were logs but no kindling or matches to get it going. We purchased both the next day and it was lovely having the burner going in the evening. Kindling and matches would be helpful for us novice log burner users. Please not I replaced the batteries in the central heating thermostat on the wall on the stairs as it showed they were depleted. You may need to make sure its set correctly. Thank you.

Fabulous little cottage clean and cozy felt like a home away from home and good size garden for the dog.

Great base to explore the coastline from. No complaints at all a really nice retreat to return to after a long days exploring. Definitely plan on returning at some point. Charlotte and Baloo(the springer cross)

We left after one night due to the steepness of the stairs to the bedrooms as my husband and myself have some mobility issues and thought these were unsuitable for anyone with issues and even thought they were on the dangerous side especially going to use the bathroom in the night.

Also we were on the road to property when received a text to say that the heat g had been switched off due to a fault with the boiler but extra logs had been left for stove when got there on checking there was 3 bags of logs but nothing to light the stove with. Surely we should have been informed before this time and given the option to cancel

This was our third stay in this quaint cottage.

Upon arrival we had no hot water or heating and no starter logs for the fire. A quick call to the very friendly owners and they sent their plumber round promptly to fix the boiler and he also brought a large bag of logs too. We had a lovely stay enjoying the local haunts on the coast and inland. The weather wasn't too bad either. We were a little disappointed that the summer house at the top of the garden looks like it has seen better days and there are no foldable seats in it any more. In the past we enjoyed sitting up there as the scenery is amazing. Also one of the large bath towels, once unrolled had a large stain on it, so needless to say this was not used. This, however, has not put us off staying here in the future as we love this cottage.

Really lovely little cottage.

Great enclosed back garden for the dogs and a little extra garden and games room. Beds were comfy and facilities were good. Little bit of road noise but nothing too bad. Convenient location for the Cleveland way and gorgeous scenery right on your doorstep. Very welcoming and dog friendly pub a short walk away that does excellent meals, The Blacksmiths.

Lovely cosey cottage with a safe enclosed garden for our 2 cockapoos.

Situated in a pretty village close to great walks on the cinder track and cliff tops. Easy access to Whitby, Scarborough and Robin Hood’s Bay too. Would highly recommend.

Perfect location and setting for our family holiday with 3 dogs (cocker spaniels).

Garden was a perfect size for them running about and well enclosed.

Just the two of us and our dog. Loads to see and do near by, great local pub to eat out at or stay in and cook in the evenings. Everything we needed to hand - parking on the road or behind the cottage very convenient, warm and cosy when the weather turned wet. Thank you for a beautiful break.

An excellent cottage in a great location.

Everything needed was provided and the house was very clean and the garden was tidy. All in all a great stay.

Wonderful stay in well appointed, comfortable cottage.

Clean, tidy, maps welcome pack, torch, plenty of hooks and equipment in the kitchen. Would suggest three improvements. 1. The key safe is very low down and fiddly, 2. Could do with a sign explaining where parking is, we drove into the space at the front which was wrong, 3. To save any confusion I think the description should state that the property is not suitable for anyone with reduced mobility, we coped, but the stairs are steep and the outside steps need care.

Beautifully decorated & had everything we needed. The long garden was perfect for our boxer & the private parking space was really useful. Ideally situated for travelling to costal towns & a very short walk to two excellent dog friendly pubs (The Red Lion & The Blacksmith Arms). Would highly recommend & we will definitely be booking again in the future x

Amazing holiday at Puffin Cottage again - this is the second time we have been and we love it Our only suggestion would be a light at the top of the garden for when you get out of the car

We had a wonderful pre Christmas break and found Puffin Cottage spot on for our needs.

Everything was just as described and more. Location ideal in a very friendly village. There are great local walks in the area and Whitby and Scarborough are easy car rides away. Having thoroughly enjoyed it so much, we returning home relaxed and recharged.

The cottage is quaint and the set up was good ideally located for walks and visits to local pubs.

The cleanliness was not that good when taking a closer look cobwebs in many places dust on top of picture frames and internal areas of kitchen cupboards unclean.only 1 light bulb working in bedroom no replacement bulbs this was mentioned in the visitors book in November and still not dealt with no toilet brush in the bathroom and no torch under sink which would of been ideal when letting the dogs on the back yard in the dark at night and early morning. We took my mother in law who is 81yrs old so even though she is active she couldn't do the walks with us so she chilled in the cottage to watch TV.unfortunately when we got back she said she couldn't find any channels I had a look myself and no channels follow in sequence ie bcc1 bbc2 itv1 channel 4 they were miles apart and you could change channels several times and the same programme would appear needs completely re tuning in.some information leaflets were over a year old and the cleaner is a local lady and the back garden grass is cut fornightly by a company it got me thinking when was the last time the owners actually visited the cottage and checked it over thoroughly. Most disappointing thing was We stayed over the Christmas period and paid basically double the cost of the weekly cottage rate out of season and it was not decorated not a bauble in sight!!!! Felt very deflated on arrival so we went out and bought a small Christmas tree with lights. Very poor standards. Welcome pack was 1 nice touch.

We had the mos wonderful week with our little dog.

The cottage was spotless and very well put together. The little gate at the bottom of the stairs was very helpful for keeping the dog dog stairs. The area is perfect for exploring the North Yorkshire coast. Would recommend and stay again!

We loved our stay at Puffin Cottage.

It was clean, comfortable and had most of the items you needed for your stay including. It was tastefully decorated and had some nice touches. The wifi was seemed to work in most of the cottage. The enclosed garden was great and safe for our dog. The steps down to the back door are a little uneven and slippery when wet. You definately need a torch if you forget to leave the outside light on if you pop out in the evening. The parking at the rear of the property was a real bonus and although we didn't use it in November, the summer house and other small garden would be great in the summer. The stairs in the cottage are steep, but with care they are fine. We only used the front bedroom and the bed was really comfy! The bathroom is downstairs and its good size with a great shower over the big bath. The lounge is comfortable with two, 2 seater sofas and a log burner. I couldn't keep the log burner alight but was probably due to my lack of knowledge of log burners! The TV in the lounge is quite small and I found the Sky TV guide rather confusing and annoying. Puffin Cottage is ideally situated for visits to Scarborough, Robin Hood Bay and Whitby. York is just over an hour away. There are lots of interesting walks and views just a short walk from the front door including two pubs. We would recommend Puffin Cottage at any time of year but we especailly enjoyed our November stay. Thank you.

This is a lovely wee cottage.

Perfectly set in the middle of so many places to visit. There's a welcome pack for the dogs and their humans. It was clean, tidy and equipped with everything you'd need. Including the forgotten items. Although we forgot a pen to write in the guest book and didn't remember to get one when we were out. The pups enjoyed the warmth of the cottage after a drizzly day. There's also leaflets for those excursions. We also contacted the housekeeper with a couple of questions. She was back to us in excellent timing and answered our questions. She was very helpful and seems really nice person.

Lovely cottage, well equipped in a very good location for touring the Yorkshire Moors and coast.

Our three dogs enjoyed the security of the gardens and the summer house was a bonus. Plenty of local walks in the area for exercising our furry pets. We would be very happy to rebook on a future visit to Yorkshire.

Puffin Cottage was beautiful!

A terraced old stone cottage has been tastefully restored with high end furniture and utensils! Lovely big back garden for the dogs and walks from your doorstep. Not forgetting the lovely summer house at the end of the garden complete with bbq and picnic chairs and plastic glasses, cups etc

Ideal location to visit Scarborough, Whitby and Robin Hood Bay. The garden is secure and clean, and the house is so cozy and welcoming. I would 100% recommend to anyone!

We had a lovely time at Puffin Cottage, the facilities were spot on.

The garden was great and secure for our 3 dogs, the only problem there was our 15 year old Bedlington Terrier had, was getting up the stone steps which are quite steep. Bathroom is lovely, shower is fantastic, plenty of hot water. Kitchen, well equipped, Lounge comfortable, Staircase quite steep and narrow, found handrail difficult to hold onto especially going down, apart from that, we had a relaxing time.

Puffin Cottage is cosy, comfortable and very well equipped, perfect to come back to after a long day out.

It is in a great situation with plenty of walks both inland and coastal without needing to drive anywhere. Also, bus service is very good and stop is about 50 yards away. It stops outside Scarborough train station if you want to go further afield. We had a great holiday.

This was our second stay at Puffin Cottage.

Again, the cottage was just great, and we all had a lovely time. We especially enjoyed sitting out at the very top of the garden in the summer house (the little chateau as it became known as). The views were spectacular.

Excellent location for exploring coast and countryside.

There were only minor issues nothing drastic.

Shelving ,cabinet or some type of storage in the bathroom would be an asset also a lock on the bathroom door. A new can opener as we had an issue with it. A lock or bolt on the outer door where the washing machine is as I didn’t feel like leaving coats in . Also the inner back door was difficult to lock I had to adjust the fittings as they were loose every time I locked the door. Also a screw driver kit needed.

Lovely cottage close to local amenities but not in a busy place.

Was nice and peaceful sitting in the gardens with the sun out, there are loads of local walks and 15-20 minutes away there are plenty more including easy to difficult forest walks. The dogs also had a warm welcome and they really enjoyed the stay too. I have recommended this to friends already.

Lovely cottage with all that is required.Well situated for dog walks both near to the cottage and further afield. Excellent places to eat within walking distance or short journey in the car.

Very cozy especially when log burner is on full bore. Cloughton is a beautiful little village, I have lots of ties to the village, from a young age. Will be back

The property was very comfortable and we all enjoyed our stay.

Excellent cottage, well presented and clean and Kaytee is an excellent owner who did everything possible to ensure that we had a great break.

We had an enjoyable stay with the only thing that I would like to mention is that the cottage is on a very busy main road so, there is some road noise disturbance and the cottage isn't as rural as I'd thought however, that being said I would recommend Puffin Cottage.

This is a little gem.

The cottage is extremely well equipped with everything you can imagine. It’s ideally situated for all the local resorts. It offers a lovely outside space to the back with bbq summer house seating etc. We will be visiting again in the summer.

The cottage was lovely and well stocked with a good sized fenced garden for our 3 dogs, however, although the owner had told me the heating wasn't working, and provided electric plug in heaters, the bathroom was cold for morning showers and the bedrooms were cold at night.

My father being 89 did feel the cold at the cottage. There was plenty of hot water but more than a bit dissapoined with the heating. Would not book this cottage again sorry.

It's cosy, with lots of character and has everything you need for a great holiday. Super location in a pretty village near to lovely places along the North Yorkshire coast like Ravenscar and Robin Hood's Bay.

The property was spotlessly clean, with everything you could wish for. the beds and sitting furniture very comfortable. Very secure back garden with parking at the rear for two small - medium cars. The main road at the front is quite busy so we decided to park at the rear. We did have a problem with the central heating/hot water boiler, but the owner sent a plumber round straight away to rectify it. The area is good with plenty of walks and pubs nearby and a good base to explore many other parts of the Yorkshire Coast and in land attractions.
