    “The caravan was adequate.”

The caravan next door is far superior but unfortunately doesn’t allow dogs. The view from the decking isn’t the best. It looks out towards the stables, the bins, the yard and car park. It would be better if it was screened off and would therefore become a bit more private. The fire wasn’t working which wasn’t really a problem because we just put the radiators on instead. The twin bedroom was tiny. I was expecting it to be small but the beds aren’t even standard single size. We had 2 ...

We had 2 boys with us age 7 and 13 and the eldest one had to sleep on the sofa in the living room which he didn’t mind to be fair because he could watch the tele. WiFi isn’t great so if you’ve got kids they’ll struggle to play on their phones/watch their tablets. When we booked the image of the decking area showed some lovely patio furniture but that’s gone, instead there’s just a small table and 2 chairs and 1 deck chair! Overall it was very quiet and the area is great for exploring the coastal paths and the cinder tracks. There’s some lovely walks and lovely beaches.

Thankyou for taking the time to leave your review. We are pleased to hear you enjoyed the peaceful location and the surrounding coastal paths . We are sorry that some aspects of your stay did not meet your expectations however we would like to clarify a few points made for the benefit of other guests . The outdoor furniture in the photos was subsequently replaced with more weather suitable furniture. This was a considered decision to make the outdoor area more practical and better suited to the local weather conditions rather than relying on cushions that can be damaged by rain . The beds in the twin bedroom are compact and the bed dimensions are provided in the property listing . We appreciate that you found the room small with 2 older children but the room and beds configuration are accurate in the information. The decision for your older child to sleep on the sofa was a choice made during your stay rather than an indication that the advertised sleeping arrangements were not available. Wi-Fi The property does provide Wi-Fi although as with many rural locations connections speeds and reliability can vary We do not advertise it as a high speed service specifically intended for extensive streaming or gaming so we feel this point is considered in that context . The fire You contacted me upon arrival to say the fire was not working, I immediately responded and came to the property to rectify the problem. The fire did work but as you say went off so I turned on the central heating and the radiators were warm instantly. We take genuine guest feedback seriously and always consider were improvements can be made To make guests stays as comfortable as possible. Thankyou again for staying with us and we wish you and your family all the best . Property Owner

The property

Found in the quiet village of Cloughton, 4 miles north of Scarborough, is this delightful holiday home, The Maple.

Boasting beautiful views of the surrounding countryside from the private decking, this property is perfectly suited for couples or a small family wanting a break away in rural Yorkshire.

Enter the property and step into the open-plan living space, where you will find the modern fitted kitchen, and elegant dining area where you can sit around the table and share a delicious home cooked meal.

You can then retire to the sitting area, onto the inviting corner sofa and tune into the Smart TV for a cosy movie marathon, and if it's chilly outside then switch on the electric fire for ultimate comfort.

On the other side of the property you'll find the bedrooms; a double and a twin, along with the well-sized shower room with jack-and-jill access.

To the outside, and where you will spend most of your time in summer is the decking area complete with outdoor seating and furniture, which overlooks the spectacular lush countryside of Yorkshire, with another outdoor space to the side of the property with more seating on the astro-turf.

Cloughton itself is a great starting point for walking and cycling, with the 'Cinder Track' nearby, a disused 23-mile-long railway track, which is very popular and a great way to begin your exploration.

Another nearby trail you can hitch onto is Cleveland Way which is a national trail running along the coast, so you can hop on at Robin Hood's Bay and continue down and along the spectacular cliff tops into Scarborough.

The seaside town itself is somewhere you must visit, from the towering Scarborough Castle looking over the town on one side, and with sheer drops to the sea to the other, to the sandy North Bay and South Bay beaches, for a dip in the ocean!

The Maple will grant you the opportunity to enjoy the best of England's North East coast, from its rural trails and moors, to the seaside resort, you are sure to make fantastic memories.

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £150.

CLOUGHTON

Scarborough 4.8 miles; Ravenscar 6.3 miles; Robin Hood's Bay 11.6 miles; Whitby 14.8 miles.

Cloughton lies just under five miles north of Scarborough, on the edge of the North York Moors National Park. Home to old cottages lining the main street and more modern developments behind, the village boasts an eclectic mix of contemporary and traditional to bring a charming atmosphere to all its visitors, as well as offering a welcoming farm shop where you can pick up any essentials and two pubs on the main street and two on the outskirts. Close by is the popular 'Cinder Track', a disused 23 mile long railway track, that's now used for walking, cycling and horse riding. There is easy access to the Cleveland Way, a long distance trail that hugs the cliff top as it winds its way to Hayburn Wyke, a rocky cove with a waterfall and inn, Robin Hood's Bay and beyond to the north and south to Scarborough. Popular since Victorian times, this vibrant seaside town of Scarborough retains many of its original fine buildings, parks and gardens, as well as its historic castle which overlooks the town. North Bay and South Bay provide two superb stretches of beautiful, golden sandy beaches, popular with families and small children. There are a number of child-friendly activities and many excellent visitor attractions for grown-ups too, including the Stephen Joseph Theatre, Scarborough Spa and Scarborough Open Air Theatre for live music. There are plenty of outdoor activities within easy reach too, with golf courses, coastal walks along the Cleveland Way, stunning cycle routes such as the old railway to Whitby, beautiful sailing and championship quality surfing, offering something for every taste.
