“Good points - Cottage was in a great position.”

On the edge of Staithes an easy 10 minutes walk down into the village. Within easy distance of several local pubs and cafes. Also easy to get to Whitby (recommend using the Park & Ride) and further north along the coast. Beds were very comfortable. Our child enjoyed the upstairs technology bed and Sky/Netflix on the TV. Heating was very effective, too much as the weather was very mild during our stay and we had to turn all the radiators down (or off) Welcome pack was amazing, best we've ...

Heating was very effective, too much as the weather was very mild during our stay and we had to turn all the radiators down (or off) Welcome pack was amazing, best we've ever encountered in a holiday cottage. Bad points - Garden was a mess. We couldn't sit out to enjoy the view or have a bbq due to the garden furniture and fence being strewn all over. Grass wasn't cut and garden had rubbish everywhere. Very dissapointing. Kitchen needs more utensils. No pizza cutter. No sharp serated knife. No oven trays (this has previously been reported in July 2025 but still no trays, poor) Sitting at breakfast table is a real squeeze. We were only 3 God only knows how you're supposed to get 5 or 6 round it. Bathroom is tired, floor needs replacing and radiator control is broken (couldn't turn it down or off) Shower was only hot for about 5 minutes so couldn't all have a shower in a morning or evening we had to split it. Real shame as it could be so much better.

Thank you very much for your feedback To pick up in the various points raised in no particular order. We now have a brand new shiny pizza cutter in the kitchen. Apologies for the omission of this - now duly added. Baking trays have been replaced (again). Hopefully these will have less tendency to wander than previous trays. Again we are sorry you were left short on these. There was a sharp serrated knife in the knife block and this has now been supplemented with some new smaller sharp knives for vegetable etc. We cannot replicate the shower issue and ran hot water for 10+ mins with no shortage of water. We can only apologise for your shortage of hot water but cannot trace this to any ongoing issue. The dining table extends to accommodate 5-6 people. We will make sure we flag this in the welcome email so that future guests are aware the table can be pulled out and made bigger as guests wish. Thank you again for alerting us that this may not be apparent to guests. Garden Our gardener has been to cut grass and tidy up. It is clear that the early garden sort out hadn’t happened and was exarcerbated by recent really windy weather which has damaged the fence and some garden furniture. We are also now aware that our lovely neighbour is in the process of completely redesigning their garden and some of the debris from this was blown across into our garden as the fence panels had been blown over. We are very sorry about this as the garden is usually a lovely place to spend a balmy sunny evening. We have checked and the 6 new garden chairs are in the garage as detailed in the house manual. It’s a shame neither we, our maintenance team, or Sykes were aware of any of these issues during your stay. Many of them could have been quickly resolved within a day enhancing the enjoyment of your remaining stay with us. Property Owner

About the location

STAITHES

Whitby 10 miles.

The charming and sleepy seaside village of Staithes, with its cobbled streets and back alleys, is something of an artist’s dream. Its pretty houses and cottages are clustered around the old harbour and surrounded by high craggy cliffs on three sides, with a sheltered sandy beach set amongst the rocky coastline. The village can claim connections with Captain Cook who was apprenticed to a draper near the harbour. Nowadays, Staithes is a must for anyone visiting the Yorkshire Coast and has a good selection of pubs, shops and tea rooms. Staithes is still home to an RNLI lifeboat station and a small fleet of cobles (fishing boats) landing fish, crab and lobster, with boat trips for birdwatching, fishing and even whale watching available. It’s also the location of the popular BBC children’s TV series, Old Jack’s Boat. Staithes has a strong attraction for artists, with an annual Art and Heritage Festival, galleries and artists studios with art courses and workshops regularly on offer. There’s a free Illusion Trail, which guides visitors around the network of ginnels (alleyways), with trail guides available locally. The best views of the town can be enjoyed from the Cleveland Way which runs down the cliff to the sea’s edge. Altogether a superb base for exploring the Yorkshire Coast, visiting the larger resorts of Whitby or Scarborough and enjoying the moorland villages of the North York Moors National Park.
