Staithes is a beautiful village with pubs and cafes, a museum (with a great film about the village, including the blacksmiths cottage), shops and galleries. The property is in a great place. Really near to the town and just below the steepest part of the walk. Great views over the beck. Really useful to have a parking space so close to town. We were glad we chose this over another property on the harbour. Be aware that neither bathroom has a door that fully closes! So it is helpful if ...

Staithes is a beautiful village with pubs and cafes, a museum (with a great film about the village, including the blacksmiths cottage), shops and galleries. The property is in a great place. Really near to the town and just below the steepest part of the walk. Great views over the beck. Really useful to have a parking space so close to town. We were glad we chose this over another property on the harbour. Be aware that neither bathroom has a door that fully closes! So it is helpful if you know your fellow travellers very well. There is no soap in the bathrooms. Some areas weren’t super clean but the kitchen and the bathroom were fine. There’s just a few small touches missing to make a stay here perfect: a hair dryer would be great, a door on the bathroom in the double bedroom, the visitor book shows that there’s been a problem with the downstairs toilet making a noise for about a year, the tank refilling can keep you awake, a small welcome pack of tea and milk would be good and a bit of info about the property and the town such as a list of the the places to eat and where to get basic supplies would be great. We recommend the cod and lobster for food (we didn’t have time to try anywhere else) and trips to Saltburn, Durham and Whitby. I think this is one of the best places to stay in Staithes. We definitely recommend it!

“It is a lovely property set in a stunning location overlooking the river in the wonderful village of Staithes but the cleanliness let it down.”

There was thick dust on picture frames, bedframe, back of door on upstairs bathroom, doorframe on the door overlooking the patio, splats of some product on the mirror hanging on the wall upstairs, dirty kitchen cutlery, the glass door on the upstairs shower and in the shower basin looked like it hadn't been cleaned. We had a great time, it was just a shame that the cleanliness let it down.

“Great location and cottage provides excellent facilities in a well carried out conversion.”

Lovely view along the valley. Coming from the fens the climb up the hill was a challenge. Local facilities were very good and the two pubs and cafe in the old village provided great value food and drinks. Also Fox and Hounds, Dalehouse is a little gem. A very good base to enjoy the relaxed nature of Staithes or venture further afield by foot, bus or car. A little more local information, maps, transport info etc in the cottage would be useful. But all in all a great property for a holiday.

Skinningrove amazing beach and secret!! Whitby always worth trip. The property was so imaginatively renovated lovely break with outside space and parking and easy stroll to pub and harbour. Would love to return. Thank you.

“Beautifully and ingeniously transformed accommodation, but quite snug and I was glad the weather enabled us to sit out on the patio with its lovely views over the beck.”

Also we had no phone signal inside! As others have said, some kind of curtain in the en-suite doorways would avoid embarrassment - but I'd read the reviews, so knew what to expect and didn't invite our adult son to join us. Overall, a good stay, with no problems.

“Fantastic bijou property.”

It has everything you need and is extremely well appointed. Upstairs is on the small side particularly the en-suite but is ideal for children. The outside has amazing views and it is thankfully near the bottom of a very steep hill and includes a car parking space so it’s relatively easy to visit Staithes.

“The cottage was small but furnished to a high standard and all available space has been utilised really well.”

Upstairs bedroom better suited to children as limited head height and very small en-suite. The location of the property was ideal as it was private, near the village and with the added bonus of a parking bay. Views from the large balcony were lovely and the addition of a few flower tubs would have made it even more special. A contact number within the cottage might be useful for guests just incase any issues crop up during the stay. All in all we had a very relaxing stay in a lovely property.

“Enjoyed our stay at this lovely cottage.”

Ideal location for exploring Staithes & the surrounding coastline, with the added bonus of onsite parking. We didn’t cook as only there 2 nights but fully equipped with everything. Lovely views & outside terrace will miss sitting out there…so peaceful. The only downside is the lack of doors on the bathrooms, this didn’t affect us but could be a problem.

“Beautiful, well maintained and clean cottage.”

Cosy home from home. We loved our stay and we hope to book to return soon. one small thing is - no bathroom doors for privacy. Bifold or sliding doors would be a great addition. this did not impact our stay to much, but it is nice to have privicy in that area of a cottage. However, this small thing did not impact us to much. Thank you and we hope to be back soon.

“Don't hesitate to book this gorgeous little cottage!”

Our first little glimpse when we pulled up onto our driveway, was the view down onto the valley! The patio was the most beautiful suntrap with plenty of furniture to soak up the surroundings & enjoy a wine. The newly renovated cottage was sparkling clean & ideal for our little family of 3 (incl: 14 year old). It is compact, but the well considered design has utilised every ounce of space with some lovely quirky craftsmanship. Our daughter absolutely loved the top room, but not sure she would be able to share it without the addition of a bathroom door. We agree that the addition of a simple barn door to the ensuites would take it to 5*. The kitchen is well equipped & completely ideal for self catering. There is a little shop down the road selling select groceries & a lovely Deli for special treats. The attached lounge area has a nice little "flame effect" fire & the heating was perfect on a chilly morning. The showers in the ensuites were powerful & hot;) Staithes harbour is a great spot with a handful of lovely eateries. We enjoyed pre-booked made to order pizza from Cobbles down the road, lunch at the gorgeous Dotty's tearoom, and a few sunset drinks at the Cod & Lobster. Excelsior fish & chip shop at the top of hill was the best we've had in ages & very well priced! We would love to come back to this special little spot. It ticked all the boxes and was a great base for exploring the Yorkshire Coast. Thank you ☺️ *For the owner we would just request a few extra items - handwash in top ensuite, extra toilet roll (only 1 in each bathroom for 4 days). Not sure if the "ammonia" smell in lounge was from new building products or previous mishaps, but worth checking on:)

Only minor issues we encountered were no doors on either of the en-suite toilet/shower areas. There has been some really imaginative thought and effort put into other areas of the property to make the most of the spaces, doors on the toilets is an oversight in our opinion and I’m sure most people would prefer privacy in those areas. Also, some better blinds or curtains would make the property nicer especially coming up to the summer months and longer days. With all surfaces inside being white, the light coming in is magnified and the LED street lamp outside makes it difficult to tell what time of day it is when waking in the middle of the night, the bedrooms are really bright and did impact all of our sleep patterns. An amazing little cottage just needing a couple of tweaks (in our opinion) to make this a top score. Not a problem caused by the owners, but we came back on one occasion to find a local had parked in our space and had to go door knocking to get it moved. Maybe a lock on the chain would help as it was a pain at the end of a long day and we were blocking the hill. The local didn’t seem that apologetic either and made us feel like we were inconveniencing them by asking them to move!

Hi ,Thankyou for lovely review ,blinds have now been fitted to living room doors,curtains to bedroom doors , Whilst wasn’t happy with the car parked on our driveway ,I’ve now found that our elderly neighbour is requiring 24 hr care , and it was an emergency . Property Owner

The charming and sleepy seaside village of Staithes, with its cobbled streets and back alleys, is something of an artist’s dream. Its pretty houses and cottages are clustered around the old harbour and surrounded by high craggy cliffs on three sides, with a sheltered sandy beach set amongst the rocky coastline. The village can claim connections with Captain Cook who was apprenticed to a draper near the harbour. Nowadays, Staithes is a must for anyone visiting the Yorkshire Coast and has a good selection of pubs, shops and tea rooms. Staithes is still home to an RNLI lifeboat station and a small fleet of cobles (fishing boats) landing fish, crab and lobster, with boat trips for birdwatching, fishing and even whale watching available. It’s also the location of the popular BBC children’s TV series, Old Jack’s Boat. Staithes has a strong attraction for artists, with an annual Art and Heritage Festival, galleries and artists studios with art courses and workshops regularly on offer. There’s a free Illusion Trail, which guides visitors around the network of ginnels (alleyways), with trail guides available locally. The best views of the town can be enjoyed from the Cleveland Way which runs down the cliff to the sea’s edge. Altogether a superb base for exploring the Yorkshire Coast, visiting the larger resorts of Whitby or Scarborough and enjoying the moorland villages of the North York Moors National Park.
