“The property has been fitted out to a high standard, but unfortunately this was marred by the simple lack of someone checking it over to make sure all was in order before our arrival.”
To list some of the faults that we encountered: 1. on arrival, we found that 5 of the 8 downlighters in the kitchen had failed, meaning that I immediately had to go out and buy replacement bulbs so that we could see to eat. 2. the toilet seat in the master en-suite is loose, and slides to the side. 3. one shower had been left dripping, meaning that the bathmat (left in the shower) was soaking wet. 4. when I tried to dry the bathmat, I found that the tumble-dryer was not working because the condensed water tank was full and the fluff filter was blocked. So I had to spend precious holiday time carrying out basic maintenance on the dryer. 5. the gas fire does not work because the battery in the remote is flat, and it has no other controls. 6. one dining chair was missing. The replacement that was provided 2 days later was tatty and out of keeping with the property. 7. the towel rail radiators would appear to need bleeding, since they all have cold areas towards the top; also the one on the 1st floor drips at the valve. One point for the future safety of guests, especially the elderly or infirm, is that the shower bases are rather slippery. It would be a good idea to provide a non-slip finish and install grab handles. Also it would be a good idea if the bathroom vents had shutters, because the north wind whistles through them at present, making the bathrooms chilly. Finally, to describe the property as having a "small courtyard garden" is an exaggeration. It is merely a path about 1.5 metres long with a few flagstones at the side. No way can that be called a "garden"!
