Description
Cottage Val is a stunning, semi-detached stone barn conversion located between Robin Hoods Bay and Ravenscar in the North York Moors National Park, surrounded with spectacular coastal and countryside views.
Upon entering the property, you will be thrilled by the spacious and stylish open-plan living area which is brimming with incredible features such as exposed stone walls, a double height vaulted ceiling with feature light fitting, a wood burning stove and underfloor heating.
All decor and furnishings are to the highest standard.
There is a smart TV, DVD, music system with Bluetooth connectivity and WiFi is also available.
The modern well equipped kitchen with breakfast bar opens out onto the rear patio providing lovely coastal views.
In addition to the breakfast bar there is seating for four at the modern pine kitchen table.
There is a glass door leading onto the patio at the seaward side of the property - an ideal spot for relaxing with a G&T taking in the late afternoon and evening sunshine.
There is one light and airy bedroom on the ground floor, which has been beautifully designed with a king-size bed and oak doors, one of which leads to the spacious en-suite shower room.
Both bedroom and shower room have underfloor heating.
The open plan stairs from the lounge area lead to a landing area overlooking the sitting room below.
Off the landing there is a second delightful bedroom with a king-size double bed.This bedroom has a pitched roof and beamed ceiling, plus a velux window with views of the stable yard and beautiful Yorkshire countryside beyond.
The tasteful en-suite features a free-standing bath, basin and WC and enjoys far reaching views across Robin Hoods Bay from its velux window.
To the exterior, there is ample off-road parking and incredible coastal and countryside views.

There is immediate access to the disused Whitby to Scarborough railway (Cinder Track) which is ideal for walkers and cyclist alike.

The popular coastal resort of Scarborough, just eleven miles away, makes a great day out for enjoying some traditional seaside fun such as sandcastle building, paddling in the sea and strolling along the promenade with an ice cream in hand.

Cottages Val and Anton (adjoining) are both stunning, and the quality of the furnishings excellent.
It was our third stay and we hope to return. Walks from the door are such a bonus, especially as the area is so beautiful.
The view photograph on the listing was not the view from the property, slightly misleading.
A mention should be made of the depth of the roll top bath as this would be a challenge to elderly/unfit/weak users. There was insufficient hanging space for a week’s clothing in the upstairs bedroom. The sky on a clear night was a fantastic array of glittering stars. The outside terrace was private and well furnished. If a parasol was available we were unable to find it for use when the sun was out, otherwise pretty good.
A beautiful cottage in a a stunning location.
Cottage was very comfy with a well equipped kitchen. There were lots of walks straight from the front door. Off the beaten track so was very quiet and peaceful, just what we were looking for.
Lovely location and very comfortable accommodation.
The cottage has been very nicely put together; the beds are comfortable and the shower works well. The kitchen was well thought out with everything one would need. The terrace at the back of the property was sunny both in the morning and early evening and has beautiful views of the surrounding countryside and the bay. Being able to walk directly from the cottage was wonderful.

This property and location are outstanding!
The property is picturesque, beautiful, clean and well looked after. The windows, glass doors and patios allow for stunning views at all times of the day throughout the property. The location is ideal for those who want to go on walks, hikes, bike rides, or to enjoy birdsong and nature right outside the door.
Lovely barn conversion with amazing views.
It is attached to a smaller cottage and parking is shared in the ample yard. Close to the cinder path for walking to Robin Hood's Bay, Whitby and Ravenscar. As previously mentioned, access is along a single track road - very narrow in places but the remote location is worth the trauma when a tractor comes the other way! Excellent directions and information from Linda, thank you. Comfortable beds and well equipped, but take a fan for the hotter weather as the upstairs bedroom particularly gets very warm.

This was our 2nd visit to CottageVal.
We remembered how much we liked it the first time round 5 years ago but had forgotten just how lovely it was. Superb, tucked away property in a very picturesque setting. Wouldn't hesitate to visit again!
Stunning location, so peaceful, and direct access onto the Cinder Track for walking/running.
Take plenty of provisions as no 5 min local shop ! Also the road down to the cottage is not for the faint hearted in places so first go in daylight if possible. Lovely hosts who were always on hand. Definitely will return.
This is a lovely cottage in a great location.
Perfect for us and our dog. It was clean, nicely furnished and kitted out, warm enough, so all the essentials were in place. Complaints? None really; I’ve given it 5 stars, and I almost never do that. If you’re looking for trouble, it’s well off the beaten track and you could get snowed in. It was advertised as heating set at 20C and it was 1 or 2 C lower than that. The coffee pod ration was a little stingy (3). See what I mean? Nothing really.
The view from the cottage of the coast was breath taking and the silence just wonderful.
The barn conversion has been well thought out and equipped to a very high standard. We were very comfortable. (We are both tall people so took the cottage for two rather than four and used the downstairs bedroom only. Linda and Tom were very friendly and helpful and it was a bonus having them on site. Linda is also a keen gardener so the gardens are very pretty. The area is great for walking, having the Cider Track next to the garden was ideal so our dog loved our holiday too, especially our day out on the North York Moors Railway steam train.

Hosts were spot on. Lynda sent lots of useful information before we arrived including details of local walks from the cottage. The cottage was very well presented and well equipped. Beds were very comfortable. Outdoor space was a great bonus. My dog loved the location! Would highly recommend.

Ideal base for exploring the coast and lots of walking options. The cottage is very comfortable , the facilities are well cared for and lots of small extras are provided. a really lovely place to stay and great to come back to after a day out.
Our Third Visit – And Just as Magical as Ever!
This was our third time staying with Tom and Linda in Ravenscar, and it truly felt like coming home. The cottage is just as beautiful and comfortable as we remembered – warm, spotless, and full of charm. The view over Robin Hood’s Bay is absolutely breathtaking, no matter how many times you see it. We never get tired of sitting outside with a cup of tea, watching the light change over the coastline – pure peace and beauty. Tom and Linda are exceptional hosts. Welcoming, thoughtful, and always ready with a kind word or helpful suggestion. You can really feel the care they put into every detail. It’s no wonder we keep coming back. This place is something special – a perfect escape where you can truly unwind. Thank you again, Tom and Linda – we already look forward to our next visit!

The views were incredible, the location was so peaceful, 30 min beautiful coast walk to the beach, the kids enjoyed the large garden and games provided. We cant wait to go back!
Beautiful cottage,excellent facilities and very dog friendly.
We had a wonderful two weeks with great walks straight from the door,and a respite from fireworks. The underfloor heating was very welcome too.

The area and views are fantastic! The cottage was very comfortable with all the facilities needed to enjoy our stay. The access was a bit tricky due to a landslide taking out the usual access road but the owners informed us of the situation and provided instructions for an alternative route. If you have a dog be aware there is no enclosed garden which is a shame and would benefit the property. Also, remember to take a torch! It’s really dark at night which is amazing for looking at the stars but not so great for walking the dog, especially after a few bottles of wine

This is a lovely property in a truly beautiful location with great views.
It has all the facilities you would expect and is very clean, comfortable and well maintained. There are lots of nice walks and bicycle rides that you can access directly from the property, and it's well situated for Whitby and Scarborough.

Friendly owners offered advice on walks. Highly recommend.
Lovely cottage in the most beautiful location.
The cottage is off the beaten track and access is via a narrow steep track which could be difficult in bad weather. Never the less this is well compensated for on arrival Such a lovely spot to walk and relax away from the maddening crowd. The ultimate compliment, I would return.

It is a lovely cottage, plenty of space and the access to walks without needing to get in the car was excellent.
We had good weather and a lovely week. We didn't mind the isolation, but I dont think the online details give a full impression of how far you have to drive to get anywhere and the fact that the narrow single lane track is a bit of a deterrent to going out in the dark.
CottageVal was excellent in every way, and within the property it was very accessible for the elderly or disabled.
A toiletries shelf close to the shower and a shower grab rail in the downstairs wet room would have been helpful. Underfloor heating was heaven, the kitchen was superbly equipped and the sea view was so dreamy. The approach road was longer, narrower and steeper than we expected. A very peaceful and special location.
A glorious place to stay which, although off the beaten track, is close enough to walk to Robin Hood's Bay (made easier if the tide is out) as well as Raven Hall Hotel where you can have a drink or meal while enjoying stunning scenery.
The cottage was a delight with a well equipped kitchen, a powerful shower and comfortable furnishings. We particularly loved the feeling of space with its high vaulted ceiling. Broadband was a bit hit and miss at times but we were usually able to use the internet and watch Netflix. All in all a great base from which to do lots of walking!

This is a lovely holiday cottage, well equipped in a charming remote location.
There is a price to pay for the remoteness which is that vehicular access is not easy - a long single track lane on which meeting oncoming traffic would be a challenge, so not for the nervous driver! Overall though a great spot. We have been twice and have already booked another visit.

We (2 adults, 2 children and a dog) really enjoyed our stay at CottageVal, it was such a cosy, comfortable, clean and well equipped place.
The beds were really comfy and we all slept really well. The underfloor heating downstairs was great and kept the cottage lovely and warm, as well as using the wood burner in an evening. There are DVDs and Games available to play. It was so remote and peaceful - which we loved - seeing the deer running on the road on our way back to the cottage was a highlight. We went down to the beach for walks and cycled along the Cinder Track to Robin Hoods Bay (lots of pot holes to avoid) and to Ravenscar (better surface to ride on). At Ravenscar, we walked down to see all the seals and saw some Adders sunbathing on the side of the path - we've never seen wild ones before. It was nice to talk to Linda prior to arriving and receiving the welcome pack, with lots of info for your stay. We have recommended it to family and friends, hopefully we'll be back again sometime.

We had a nice break before Christmas. The cottage was warm, and cosy very well equipped your email with instructions and guides made it easy to use all the appliances. It was spotlessly clean. The bed was really comfy. It was nice to come back in the evening to the log fire after a walks we found on the doorstep. We would love to come back and would highly recommend. Tom & Terri
We had a wonderful stay at CottageVal.
I feel like the photos don’t do the place justice! Very spacious, clean and comfortable. A brilliant place to take your dog, tiled floor throughout, plenty of outdoor space, lots of grass which was great for our fussy Spaniel, Nelly. We enjoyed some great days out to Sandsend, Boggle Hole, Robin Hoods Bay and Filey. Evenings were spent back at the cottage, cosy by the log burner. We enjoyed it that much, we’re already looking to book again for next year! Our only little recommendation would be to have an outdoor light onto the back garden, just to make night time toilet trips for the dog that little bit easier! Really loved this place, I was able to relax and unwind in only a couple of days - it was clean, warm and well appointed, with a lovely setting.
A little bit remote (I didnt realise it was quite such a long drive from Robin Hood's Bay) but great for walking the dog and going to see the sea!

This cottage ticks many boxes for people who stay here.
The owners are very approachable and welcoming and fill in any missing answers to questions you may have. The opportunities for walkers are countless including for dog owners with many walks starting at the cottage. Peace and quiet are a given and I have no hesitation in recommending it to anyone. My only suggestion would be to have an area which is totally enclosed to the rear so giving dogs an area to stretch their legs. Whilst our dog is well behaved this is a working farm area which affords many smells and delights for dogs so an enclosed area would be a great benefit and would have avoided his clash with an electric fence.
As with previous feedback, cottage is in a lovely setting with great views.
It was a pleasure to stay in the cottage for our week away so cannot fault it. The only thing to add would be that the cottage is situated some way off any main road via a small driveway which is what takes the time if a visit to the shop is required. Perfect for dog walking along the cinder path and down to the beaches. Linda and Tom are brilliant hosts and really make you feel welcome. It’s nice to be able to go on holiday with your dog to such a well appointed cottage, it’s even better in the flesh than on the photos. We have stayed twice now at cottageVal and would love to stay again, we couldn’t recommend it highly enough.

This was a much needed break - beautiful view of the sea and Robin Hood's Bay and the moors. Much wildlife to enjoy. The Cinder Track runs right by the Cottage and a great starting point for walking. The night skies superb and some great sunsets. Went down to the beach most days and the Boggle Hole YHA well worth a visit for coffee/tea, cakes and on certain days light meals. Visited Whitby, Sandsend, Ravenscar and Scarborough - but so many other places to see that we did not make - so will have to return at some point. Could easily have stayed for 2 weeks.

Fantastic views, even if the location is a little remote, making visiting the pub or restaurant more difficult! The owners were friendly and welcoming. Ideal for a walking holiday with our dog.
The property was of an outstanding quality.
Everything was perfect. A superbly renovated, warm, comfortable barn with everything we could possibly need for cooking etc. Lots of firewood was just one of the generous touches. Comfortable beds, lovely shower and bathrooms. Spectacular views with easy access to the cinder track to take walks, runs or bike rides. A huge bonus with a dog was all the outside space if you have a well behaved dog who won’t run off. The owners live close by and were so friendly and lovely. Dog blankets and bowl provided. Great outdoor patio with bbq. We had an absolutely wonderful stay. The peace and quiet of the location and the high quality of the barn were an absolute delight.

facilities are all that you need, and more. strange water system, must be a pumped system, as when you turn on the tap or shower some times there was a considerable delay then a full spurt to send water every were. Very cosy for an evening by the wood burner. Cob webs could do with clearing but over all clean.
CottageVal was everything we'd hoped for and more.
Incredibly warm and cosy with great facilities and amazing views. We were there during the February storms which was rather exciting! The beds are extremely comfortable,water pressure is great and the WiFi good. The walks from the cottage are amazing.We walked to Boggle Hole along the Cinder Track and then on to Robin Hood's Bay along the Cleveland Way. Walking the opposite way along the Cinder Track we visited Ravenscar. A long,quite steep walk downhill takes you to the seal colony.We felt incredibly privileged to see so many of these amazing creatures in their natural habitat. Many thanks to Linda and Tom.We would love to return!

This cottage is not for the faint harted its is quite a hard drive to get to. But once you are there the cottage, walks,area...is stunning.

!! What an excellent little find this was. The views from the back door of Robin Hoods Bay are just spectacular. It has everything you need to have a very relaxing, comfortable stay. There are walks from your doorstep to Robin Hood Bay & Ravenscar. The dog loved it as did we !!! It’s quite remote which we loved & being able to hear the sea from the cottage was simply fantastic. We loved the wood burner also after a long walk with a glass of wine, as to say we didn’t want to leave. Anyone looking for a cottage with peace & quiet for either dog walking or biking this Is the cottage for you. It’s fabulous get booking …

Excellent cottage.
Beautifully converted and decorated with good quality furniture, and facilities. Pleasure to stay here. Would like more wood supplies as for us it's a novelty having a wood burner. Only slight issue was a fall on the moss on the outside patio. Think it probably needs cleaning off. No broken bones or split heads so all ok. Will definately recommend and visit again. Lovely - thank you.
I think people need to know there are no shops or pubs within walking distance and also more logs could be supplied as not enough until 1st morning

A beautiful house, in a fantastic peaceful location. The owners were lovely and happy to help, without being intrusive. The cottage is isolated enough to relax, but with lots of walks from the door there's also plenty to do. We can't recommend this place enough!

This is a stunning cottage in a beautiful location.
Immaculately kept in such beautiful countryside a short walk to the beach. A very peaceful relaxing stay we absolutely loved it and the fact we could bring our dog was fabulous. The cottage is really lovely
The very steep and narrow last 1/4 of a mile down to the cottage, was most challenging and unsuitable for drivers of mature age or large cars , I would not book this venue again for this reason

This cottage is mainly for walkers
The quietness, the cleanliness, the magnificent view and the friendly welcome from Linda and Tom.
It felt like going from home to home. Hope to be able to go back again next year.
A number of light bulbs were out throughout the cottage.
A weekly check of lighting and replacement of failed bulbs would avoid customer disappointment and inconvenience.

The views were just stunning on the road to the cottage. The cottage itself was immaculate and had all the facilities inside needed for self catering. The location is remote so this needs to be taken into consideration for those without their own transport however in our case it was ideal. We will definitely be looking to book it again in the future.

CottageVal is an excellent holiday home.
We found it to be clean, comfortable and felt at home straight away. The bed was so comfy we looked to see the make of mattress ready for when we replace ours at home. Great views approaching the cottage and from the cottage too. There is plenty of info so visitors can enjoy nearby walks and attractions. The cottage is warm with the bonus of a wood burner in the lounge. The cottage is ideal for those less able with one of the bedrooms downstairs along with a warm en suite wet room. We would highly recommend CottageVal, and Sykes Cottages too as we have booked with them before and will do so again. Many thanks.

CottageVal Is a lovely cottage very comfortable in beautuful surroundings Ideal for a base to teavel around.
The drive down us a bit hairy as its out in the sticks but its a beautiful drive and the reward when you get there is so wirth it . Liventhat you can take pets would highly recommend & wiuld stay again
Had a fabulous week, excellent area for dog walking, able to leave dog outside without too much worry.
Lots to do and see, recommend Falcon and Bryerstones for meals and was very pleasantly surprised when we visited Bogle Hole YHA.
Val cottage is beautiful but it is very remote.
Not sure this is made clear in the description. Says there is a pub 2.5 miles from the cottage, think it must have closed or moved. There is no mobile reception but very good Wi-fi, also the TV signal is intermittent. If you want to park up your car and walk then this is the place to be. If you want to tour in the area or get out for meals etc then it’s probably not.
