“A real home away from home!”

We’ve had a lovely stay at Seadrift. I was a little concerned about space as I found out we were expecting a baby after i’d made the booking but I needn’t have worried. All 6 of us (2 adults & 4 children (inc. a toddler & a baby)) fit perfectly. It was lovely and cosy, nice to return to after a day out in the fresh air. Kay & Mark have thought of everything. Their communication was great from arrival information to departure. The whole house was clean and the beds really comfy. I ...

The property

This lovely, end-terrace cottage is situated on The Bay, a prestigious holiday village, 3 miles from the traditional seaside town of Filey.

A glorious Blue Flag sandy beach is just a short, enjoyable walk away, providing 5 miles of golden sands to play on, build sandcastles on and to paddle in the sea.

Seadrift is a welcoming home-away-from-home, perfect for couples and families wishing to enjoy the Yorkshire coast and extensive on-site facilities.

The comfortable interior has a contemporary, well-equipped kitchen, a downstairs toilet, and a light and airy lounge/dining room.

Cosy evenings can be spent snuggling up on the sumptuous leather sofa by the bay windows.

The TV and DVD player stand on a cabinet containing local information and equipment instructions.

French doors by the dining area can be opened up to the rear patio, which is an ideal spot to relax with a coffee and watch the world go by.

Upstairs are two peaceful bedrooms, promising a good night’s sleep.

The attractive double bedroom has fitted wardrobes, whereas the second bedroom has double and one single bed.

There is a family bathroom with walk in shower.

Stepping outside the cottage you are greeted by the quaint ‘fishing village’ style houses, set in communal gardens, with meadowland and a lake nearby.

Seadrift is in a quiet location, but benefits from the convenience of being close to the amenities offered by The Bay, such as a pub and pharmacy.

Also close at hand are the heated indoor swimming pool, children’s pool, steam room, sauna and gym (which are free to use for guests at Seadrift using the leisure pass provided.) Other facilities are available at The Bay, for an extra charge, paid locally, including beauty rooms, fitness classes, tennis, archery, scuba diving lessons, fishing and bike hire.

If you can tear yourself away from The Bay holiday village, it is a lovely walk along the beach (tides permitting), to Filey, with its old world charm, where there are quirky shops, places to eat, the promenade, and terraces to sit with views of the sea and the bright flowers in the ornamental gardens.

To the North lies Filey Brigg- why not try a bit of rock pooling here?

Further afield is the busier town of Scarborough where you can embrace more family fun such as the Alpamare Waterpark.

To the south, Bempton RSPB nature reserve is marvellous for bird lovers, with nesting seabirds, including Puffins, on the chalk cliffs.

Flamborough Head boasts high cliffs with exhilarating walks, and boat trips, leading round to the resort of Bridlington.

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £100.

About the location

FILEY

Scarborough 7.7 miles; Bridlington 10.5 miles.

Filey is a traditional English seaside resort with a friendly atmosphere, offering a restful holiday, making an ideal place to stay for walkers and wildlife watchers at any time of the year. A real gem on the Yorkshire coast. A fishing town on the North East Coast, Filey has enjoyed a reputation of being a resort since Victorian times, set beside the magnificent Filey Bay, a long stretch of beautiful sand, with Filey Brigg and its shallow rockpools to the north. Filey Brigg is a low headland that protects Filey Bay and provides good bird watching and seawatching opportunities all year round. The 400 ft high Bempton Cliffs (RSPB Reserve) to the south of Filey Bay are home to over 250,000 seabirds in the summer. Gannets, kittiwakes, puffins, guillimots and razorbills all nest there. Gannets are regularly seen diving for fish in Filey Bay. The Brigg area is an ideal place to watch for common and rarer waders, seabirds and migrating warblers, finches and thrushes. As well as seabirds, seals and other marine life, such as porpoises dolphins and minke whales can be seen in the sea around the Brigg. The town itself seems almost caught in a time warp, retaining much of its character with individual shops, narrow paths and ginnels. There is a small coble landing, a slipway where local fishermen keep their boats, plus delightful beach chalets that can be hired through the summer months. The bay is edged with two promenades and there are various gardens, where brass bands play on a Sunday afternoon. This small town is family orientated, crazy golf and candy floss. Also in Filey there is the Filey Dams Nature Reserve, a wetland reserve where common and rare waders and wildfowl can be seen as well as autumn gatherings of swallows, sand martins and house martins. Also there is Parish Wood (just off Sycamore Avenue) an unexpected gem that offers a wealth of wildlife. Willow warbler, chiffchaff, blackcap and tree sparrows breed there and a wide variety of other species are regularly seen such as great spotted woodpeckers and sparrow hawks. Parish Wood also provides shelter and food for a wide range of migrant bird species such as goldcrests, pied and spotted flycatchers, warblers, finches, thrushes and woodcocks. A short drive brings you to the busier town of Scarborough where for family fun you can visit the Alpamare Waterpark, a waterpark unlike anything the UK has ever seen before, as well as plenty to explore and discover in this lovely area.
