“Lovely, spacious property in a quiet, rural area with beautiful views of the sea.”

Excellently placed for a quiet retreat, but also not too far from Whitby & Sandsend for beach & tourist attraction needs, in addition to shops & restaurants. Roads in & out of Kettleness are one-track, so not for the faint hearted (especially if a tractor comes over the horizon!!) but there are lots of passing spots & you get used to them after a while. The house itself is spacious with ample bedrooms & bathrooms which suited our predominantly adult-aged party perfectly. It is well stocked in the way of cutlery, glasses, mugs & plates etc. A few things that could improve the property (but in no way detracted from our enjoyment of it): 1. A few of the shower cubicles could do with re-grouting (mould/mildew is evident on the seal around the cubicle tray); 2. The towel rails didn’t come on at all during our stay (and we weren’t sure how to get them working), so our towels were damp from day-to-day & we couldn’t get them dry (appreciate we stayed during the summer, but a blast of heat for a few hours would have been perfect to sort the damp feeling!); 3. The WiFi was very patchy throughout the house & rarely worked at all in the two bedrooms furthest away from the kitchen/lounge area on the ground floor or in the two bedrooms upstairs. Not a deal breaker by any means, but there were 7 people in our party & we were relying on 3G a lot when looking up places to visit, mapping out routes for the day ahead etc. 4. Games room in the garage is a lovely idea & we enjoyed playing pool with the door open as it was lovely weather. However, we wouldn’t have wanted to close the door (even with the lighting), as it has no windows. Lots of broken & abandoned furniture around the edges made it feel more like a garage/storage room with games in it rather than a fully functioning games room, but with a bit of decoration & tidy, it has the potential to be a brill family space & a real asset to the property 5. The handy folder in the lounge area with details of the property could do with updating in certain areas. For eg: The check in/check out times in the folder were different to what was advised on our email; The bin wasn’t collected on the day specified (we put it out every day in the end, but it wasn’t collected for the entirety of our stay!!); Info regarding checkout day mentioned stripping bedding & leaving in laundry bags provided, but we couldn’t find any (sorry if we missed them!!). We simply left the bedding & used towels at the end of the beds instead; Lots of info on the local pub within a mile(ish) of the property, but it was closed every time we passed which we thought strange for peak summer season. It would have been nice for all members of our party to be able to walk to the pub & have a drink together, but sadly we weren’t able to as there’s nothing else nearby (cars are a must). 6. The toaster in the kitchen was a little temperamental & could do with replacing (the two far right slots didn’t appear to toast at all) In summary, we enjoyed our stay very much & wouldn’t hesitate to return or recommend the property to others, but it would benefit from a little TLC in certain areas to really make it a 5-star property
