“We had a great stay at 11A High Street, Burniston.”

The property is exactly as advertised; if anything, it is more spacious than it looks on the photos. You enter via the back door (private parking space at the back gate) through a little private courtyard garden (a suntrap in summer months I would think). Through a small but perfectly formed kitchen, there is a sitting/dining room. The only thing I thought this room could use is a more comfortable sofa to create a reading area/separate seating away from the main lounge. There is a quirky, carved bench and while characterful, is not comfortable for any length of time. The only other thing needed was a bigger fridge but I appreciate the space is limited and we managed perfectly well. The kitchen also had other basics provided such as kitchen roll, washing up liquid, wipes, tin foil. There are also pegs under the sink. There is a retractable washing line outside. Through the hall way, and the lounge is a fabulous size with comfortable seating and double aspect windows making it a really bright and airy room. The fireplace makes this room really cosy. It's worth noting that all rooms have blinds and curtains making the house really warm and keeps the heat in. The central heating is also very efficient. Upstairs, the bedrooms are equally cosy and have plenty of space for storage. Plus really well thought out placement of the plug sockets etc. There is a hairdryer provided should you need it. The towels and bedding are good quality as are all furnishings in the cottage. Unfortunately during our stay the very local Three Jolly Sailors pub (across the road) was closed due to change of management but The Oak Wheel, about 5 mins walk away was open and we had 2 excellent meals there. The food at The Bull at Guisthorpe is also worth the visit. 11A High Street is extremely well situated for getting out and about and we enjoyed days out to Scarborough, Filey, Bridlington and Whitby. I would say although Burniston is a small place, the cottage is on quite a busy road and main bus route. This does mean there is some traffic noise but, that isn't any fault of the house. It suited us for the convenience of getting out and about but may not be for someone wanting complete rural silence. I would definitely recommend this cottage and would hope to stay again in the future. Thank you for having us!
