Tom “We had an amazing stay at this cottage, the pictures donāt do it justice.”
Very cosy cottage in an amazing location. Very spacious, comfortable and well equipped. The garden is beautiful with a shallow brook running along. The shower does need some investment (water pressure) but definitely wouldnāt stop us from staying here again. Would recommend to anybody and weāre excited to stay here again. Hosts were very understanding after I accidentally damaged the rug when cleaning the fireplace out. Sorry again! Hope the new rug looks just as good!

Lynne “Had a lovely time at Levenbeck Cottage .”
Very comfortable home from home. The welcome hamper was lovely. The weather not so good but plenty of games to play books to read etc . Trains pass by every hour or so but didn't bother us in the slightest.
- Lynne, August 2024Celia “We enjoyed our stay at Levenbeck Cottage.”
The bungalow had everything you could wish for, fully equipped. Our Grandson was delighted with the trains going passed especially when the passengers wave at him and the train driver blew his horn when he passed himā¦A very enjoyable stay, full marks too the owners.
- Celia, July 2024Verity “A lovely, clean and spacious cottage with plenty of room for 4 adults and a toddler.”
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, and would happily return to explore the "other side of the Moors" further. The single beds are a tight fit for an adult, and there is very limited space between them, but are fine for children. The rest of the accommodation was lovely, and very well equipped. We loved the trains passing on the Whitby-Middlesborough railway, they are just 10 yards from the kitchen window! And enjoyed watching the house martins that were nesting in the eaves, feeding their young all day long.
- Verity, July 2024Glynis “A gem set in a lovely rural location.”
This was our 2nd visit to this clean and comfortable bungalow that had a kitchen stocked with utensils. The rear garden is not enclosed should you have a dog but there is a long lead, if required. On arrival there was a generous welcome hamper as well as milk and butter in the fridge for us. It was also good to have an information pack with places to visit. The location was ideal for visiting North Yorkshire Moors and the nearby coast. Alternatively you could just sit and relax in the privacy of the rear garden which had a stream at the side. We loved watching the house martins flying about catching insects for their young. We had no problem with the trains going by, in fact my husband saw 2 rare renovated Deltic diesel engines which made his day! We had a great 2 weeks holiday and would certainly recommend. Thank you Geoff and Tracy.
- Glynis, June 2024David “We had a very enjoyable week at Levenbeck Cottage which is very well appointed with a spacious lounge and kitchen.”
The garden, with its trout stream running through it, was a wildlife haven with rabbits, a heron, ducks and ducklings, numerous birds. There are walks from the doorstep and several places worth visiting are a short car journey away with Whitby being a favourite. Although we did not meet our hosts a goodies pack was awaiting our arrival and was much appreciated. David, Celia & Molly.
- David, May 2024Jill “The cottage was lovely comfortable like home from home .”
Watching the little rabbit's was nice for my mum brought back childhood memories siting out side with the river and birds was so peaceful. In all perfect place. ON the funny side watching my little dogs face wene the rabbit's disappeared down there burrows was funny
- Jill, May 2024Robin “Fantastic cottage in a superb location for sightseeing around North Yorkshire and further afield.”
Would definitely recommend and hope to be back.
- Robin, March 2024Wendy “Wonderful stay as usual.”
Everything was very clean and comfortable. Lovely hamper left for our arrival. Lovely to see all the wildlife especially the little rabbits in the garden. Thank you to Tracy and Geoff.
- Wendy, March 2024Wendy “We have stopped at Levenbeck a number of times and we absolutely love it, itās a real home from home.”
Everything u need is here. Itās very clean, cozy and comfortable and the views are amazing. If you like to see wildlife you wonāt be disappointed. We had three rabbits visit most days. Absolutely love it here and the owners Geoff and Tracy are very excellent.

The cottage is absolutely stunning To say we have had a fantastic holiday is an understatement The welcome hamper is certainly something we didnāt expect and was so lovely Spotless is one word to best describe this home from home and our two cats that travel every where with us loved watching the rabbits in the garden To sit with a real log fire listening to owls in the garden t night was a treat for a couple who as kids grew up in the countryside The stream we we just had to record the sounds to listen to at home And to arrive back one evening to see a famous steam train on the single track adjacent to the garden what a thrill Thank you for a wonderful break

The cottage was lovely the owners left a list of places to visit that was really helpful the arrival pack was really good will visit again
- Andrew, July 2023Maria “The cottage is really loverly, and quiet, trains are about 8a day, Very near to the cottage.”
Places to go and visit and a lot of walking.clean and welcome pack was welcoming .
- Maria, July 2023Glynis “Ideal base for North Yorkshire Moors and coastal area.”
Had a very enjoyable stay at this cottage which is in a lovely peaceful rural setting. Although it is next to a railway line the diesel trains go through within 5 seconds, only about 6 a day, and they weren't very noisy so this wasn't a problem, in fact it was quite a novelty! The garden is not dog secure but we did manage to block the back garden from the front area successfully so our dog couldn't escape. Would certainly re-book.
- Glynis, June 2023Janette “Had a lovely holiday, will book again everything we needed, thanks for the lovely hamper and plenty of logs to keep us toasty.”

Set in a beautifull location, Cottage was very clean comfortable, and everything you required was provided, lovely welcome pack left by owners was much appreciated, thank you Sue
- Sue, April 2023Sue “It's my 2nd stay at levenbeck .”
Lovely place . Fab setting . Just love it there .
- Sue, March 2023Wendy “Absolutely fabulous time had by all.”
Cottage was very clean, tidy and comfortable. Setting is beautiful with very pretty views, lots of wildlife out of every window. Will definitely visit again and would highly recommend.
- Wendy, March 2023Matthew “The cottage was of a very high standard.”
I have stayed at many over the years and this rates as one of the best. Spacious, tastefully decorated, very clean and with so much to offer. It is also the best in terms of providing everything you need regarding kitchen utensils, crockery etc. It is in the most peaceful of locations with the local train occasionally passing by which adds to its appeal. You can watch the rabbits that visit the large garden from your windows. The woodburner was fantastic, comfortable furnishings, bathroom and kitchen spacious, clean and modern. The owners left the best welcome pack I have ever had and were friendly with the phone and email contact I had with them. You can get a train to places such as Whitby or Newcastle and stay for 4 hours and the little railway station is just 20 mins walk through the lovely quiet hamlet nearby. I already miss being there and wouldn't hesitate to come again
- Matthew, October 2022Wendy “Absolutely fantastic stay.”
Cottage is really lovely as is the surrounding countryside. Very clean and extremely comfortable. Amazing views all round. Have stopped here numerous times and hope to again in the future.
- Wendy, September 2022Lisa “Levenbeck Cottage is absolutely lovely!”
It is set in a beautiful, peaceful location, surrounded by the countryside and the moors. The cottage itself is very spacious and is beautifully furnished and decorated. It was really nice to read the history on the cottage which was provided by the owners in our welcome pack. The welcome pack was full of useful information as was the leaflets provided about local attractions and walks. We all loved the living room and as a family we spent every evening playing bingo followed by a film. The owners had thought of everything from complimentary toiletries and plenty of towels to toys, games, books and dvds. We even had a lovely gift basket with the essentials waiting for us on our arrival! We have had one of our best holidays and we loved the cottage so much we are all hoping to return next summer!
- Lisa, July 2022Wendy “Fantastic, absolutely love it.”
Been a number of times now and already booked up for a week in September.
- Wendy, July 2022Hugh “First let us say that the accuracy score relates only to the minor fact that directions are only from Guisborough.”
(Not ideal for those travelling from the south) The property is as described and ideal in its location for visiting the Yorkshire Moors be that by cycle, car out on foot. The facilities are first class and as good as we have found in similar accommodation in the UK and further afield. Finally, and most important, the owners are a delightful couple who we believe will go out of their way to ensure that your holiday there is enjoyable and stress free if you have a problem.
- Hugh, June 2022Karen “My sister and myself take my father away to sykes cottages over the last couple of years.”
We have never had any problems with any of them. We especially liked Levenbeck cottage for the quietness, all the facilities and the home from home experience. The pleasure of waking up and seeing all the wildlife that visited the garden and the occasional trains that passed, made the day. When living in a busy city it was just what we wanted. The owners were so welcoming, leaving a welcoming pack of essential was lovely, and they we're easily contactable. They let us know we could go in earlier as the cottage was ready. I would recommend this cottage to family and friends and on our list of cottages to return to. Thanks T and G.
- Karen, June 2022Susan “There was a lot of bits and pieces of food etc sun lotion vinegar jars coffee ...”
There was a lot of bits and pieces of food etc sun lotion vinegar jars coffee spag etc and lots of it the cupboards was dirty and when we got there sitting was not enough four chairs in kitchen and stools not that comfortable to sit and eat on and only sitting for five in lounge one of us sat on floor no hand rail which means less mobile struggle up steps and we couldnt light fire as no fire guard hot water even with the booster is not enough for six people trains run early hours of morning 12oclock at night 3am 5am not returning with covid was not that clean
- Susan, April 2022Thank you for your comments, we would like to respond as follows: - there were a few items of ours in the top cupboards (the jars were just home-made chutney) as this is our home in-between guests - these have now been removed. Salt, pepper, condiments are there in-case any of our guests forget their own and are welcome to use ours, if they so wish. - regarding the "dirt" in the cupboard, we could only find spillled pepper from the pepper grinder and as for the rest of the cottage, as can been seen from our previous feedback, we have never dropped points on the cleanliness and can assure everyone we take Covid cleaning extremely seriously - please read all the reviews. - just a note for anyone who is enquiring about the cottage - we are not on mains water or gas so the shower is on an immersion heater. - regarding the trains, normally the last train is at 11.30pm and the first is around 7am, unfortunately if Network Rail choose to work through the night, which does happen very occasionally, we are really sorry but this is obviously beyond our control. Update: - we have exchanged the stools in the kitchen for more chairs, added an extra chair in the living room and a fireguard and a handrail on the front steps. Property Owner
Chris “Absolutely stunning cottage, lovely location.”
Cannot fault this place at all.
- Chris, March 2022Nigel “Great base to explore the area .”
...snowed on the way up really nice to arrive at a lovely and warm property....well equipped kitchen had all that we needed .... plethora of books dvds and games to keep all ages happy... welcome basket with bread milk etc was a nice touch ...piece and quiet is what we wanted and we definitely got that .....Great place to unwind from the rat race...
- Nigel, February 2022Amy “Property owner was very helpful with any questions we had and left a lovely, unexpected welcome basket and presents under the Christmas tree (our children loved this touch and the toy boxes).”
Property is a great size and in an excellent location to explore the area.
- Amy, December 2021Martin “The cottage is great, wonderful, we had a lovely stay, well done.”
- Martin, October 2021Paul “Lovely cottage- idillic setting - perfect facilities.”
We were able to get easily to shops , cafes, restaurants and the coast was not too far away either - a beautiful drive across the moors to Saltburn or Whitby. We also found the Yorkshire cycle hub at Fryup which turned out to be a gem of a place. The only possible criticism would be the lack of a rail on the steps to aid entry for those who may not be so mobile.
- Paul, October 2021Janet “The cottage is warm & comfortable in beautiful surroundings with a lovely garden & many places to visit are viable.”
We really appreciated the welcome Hamper along with the wood burner with adequate logs etc! However the biggest difficulty for any family (just four of us) is that the shower was abysmal - just a trickle of water not actually a āshower!ā (Just a dribbles sadly!) The bath itself could not fill our needs, though was used, took ALL the hot water available - so not adequate for potentially 6 guests! Sadly, after many years of self catering, this is the worst shower we have ever encountered (including staying on a Campsite!) Something than can be easily fixed for future guests is better lighting in the lounge, as impossible to read books/play games! (higher wattage bulbs & better shades would be an improvement!) But we had an enjoyable stay thank you!
- Janet, October 2021Wendy “Absolutely splendid.”
Thoroughly enjoyed. We have been a number of occasions now and will visit again.
- Wendy, September 2021Mark “Excellent location for walking, relaxing.”
Sightseeing. Quite location with wildlife from the local stream nearby. Property had everything you needed.
- Mark, August 2021Martin “Lovely cottage, beautiful location.”
Could not fault it.
- Martin, July 2021Anita “Lovely large bungalow with 3 large bedrooms in a fantastic rural location.”
However, this place will not suit people who like to walk to a pub, shops or restaurant as nearest place is about 4 miles away. This didnāt bother me. Lovely walks straight from the bungalow and picking up the Cleveland Way and only a short drive to the coast.
- Anita, July 2021A “Peace & quiet & a lovely cottage.”
- A, June 2021Christine “A beautiful place.”
Quite isolated but it suited us. Very peaceful. Could have done with a second bathroom which would have been the icing on the cake.
- Christine, May 2021Angela “Lovely bungalow surrounded by fields, sheep & rabbits.”
It is quiet and isolated with the facilities of Great Ayton just 3 miles away. We enjoyed a meal at the Dudley Arms in New Ingleborough not too far away.
- Angela, May 2021Wendy “Weāve stopped at this cottage 3 times and already booked for our 4th trip later in the year.”
If you love walking and being away from lots of people this is the place for you but itās not too far to go to local villages/towns. Itās lovely and clean, very comfortable and has beautiful surroundings. Has everything you could possibly need.
- Wendy, May 2021Terry “If anyone wants peace and quiet holiday, countryside, bird watching, birds of prey, wildlife in general then this is the place for you.”
Spotlessly Clean throughout. The only way to describe this place is like a Beatrix Potter/David Attenborough Style Cottage Home From Home. Easy 1/2 hour to 45 minutes drive to Whitby & Scarboro and the beautiful North Yorkshire Moors just at the end of the road. My wife and myself spent our 25th wedding anniversary here Late April 2021 / May 2021 for 2 weeks. All we can say is "Wow".From the first day on arrival the owners Jeff & Tracey left us a very generous hamper and a very kind anniversary card & present and many extra tinned & dried food e.t.c in the Kitchen. A more than adequate & beautiful Kitchen stocked to the brim with Utensils( Probably more than a celeb chef),and a superb view of wildlife and baby lambs in the field and hills behind. Modern Full Size Cooker, A Slow Cooker.Halogen Cooker all came in very useful. Huge built in cupboard freezer and a seperate built in fridge. Very comfortable living room with superb log fire and great views from all angles.(Owners leave you plenty of coal and logs and back up logs outside) Bedrooms very calm, comfortable with beautiful bed linen. Gorgeous Bathroom with Bath & Shower. We could see that Jeff & Tracy were learning their trade from starting last year and that improvements were been carried out to a high standard.I imagine when they have finished completing their ideas for this place it will be one of the most sought after places in the county to take a holiday. The wildlife - well where do i start, Resident wild Pheasants and Partridges & Mallard Ducks who were hilarious.Loads of rabbits and warrens within the grounds with the source of the river Leven stream running around the whole one side of the property. Many Rare Birds,Great Tit,Coal Tit,Woodpecker,Finch, gorgeous sounding Lapwings,Warblers & loads more. You can hear the tranquil running water from the stream from many windows.and kitchen and living room patio doors where the wildlife use both sides of the garden to join and entertain you and are all so beautiful with many characters (The one pheasent in particular who was the king of the roost) Then there was the Birds Of Prey - "Wow" We saw a kestrel in the tree outside the bedroom window, many buzzards,A Group of White Hawks regular hunting the surrounding fields.Heard many owls at knight from the woods in the distance. Then if that was'nt enough on the moor at nearby Commondale we were blessed with sighting a White Tailed Eagle (A Life time achievement for us)It was huge and glided above us like a small aeroplane in complete silence on the moor. Stokesley And Great Ayrton 4 - 5 miles away can accommodate all groceries with in particular lovely produce on Stokesley Market On Fridays,Gorgeous Bakeries and Butchers and a Mccall's & Co Op Shops to cater for all other needs.Be sure to visit the farm shop at Fletchers in Little Ayrton 4 Miles away. Both my wife and myself have a wealth of experience in Tourism & Hospitality and we see Levenbrook as a 10 out of 10.It has to be exceptional good for us to rate that score for a holiday. One last note the property has wi-fi and remember been around the valleys and the hills it will be patchy. It does work well in certain areas of the cottage and please remember and try not to complain if it is patchy as this holiday brings you back to basics from the rat race of life and at the end of the day wi-fi is not important, the peace and quiet and the wildlife here is. We thank Jeff and Tracy and wish them all the success they deserve with Levenbrook that they deserve and we will try to return if life allows in the very near future. Many thanks for making our anniversary perfect. Mr & Mrs K.
- Terry, April 2021Yvonne “The countryside round about is lovely and yet you are not far from the coast.”
I was a bit worried about the cottage being so close to the railway line but once there, it didn't bother me at all - the trains are gone past before you know it and there are only a few each day.
- Yvonne, October 2020Lynne “Levenbeck cottage is lovely.”
It's really comfortable and in a fabulous location with good views. It is very well equipped with everything you need for a very enjoyable stay. There were toiletries in every bedroom, plenty of logs for the stove and an extremely generous welcome pack. There are walks from the door and lots of places to visit not too far away. One day we caught the train in the village which is just over a mile away, to Whitby and the journey was very scenic. We also enjoyed the garden and saw a weasel, a kestrel, lots of buzzards and dozens of rabbits. We also heard tawny owls on several nights. I accidentally left some earrings behind and Tracy and Geoff very kindly posted them on to me. We would definitely like to return and will recommend Levenbeck cottage to family and friends.
- Lynne, October 2020Stephen “We loved staying at Levenbeck Cottage, although unfortunately had to return home during our second week.”
We have rented a lot of holiday cottages, and felt Levenbeck Cottage was the best in terms if comfort, cleanliness, amenities and location. The welcome pack was a nice thought, and the towels and bed linen were very clean and good quality. This is the first year for Tracy and Geoff, they should be proud of what they are providing - hope to return. First time to North Yorkshire Moors, some beautiful scenery and pretty villages. Also coast within easy reach, particularly Runswick Bay (which was a favourite). Margaret and Stephen Mead

About the location
STOKESLEY
Great Ayton 3 miles; Saltburn-by-theāSea 14 miles.
Stokesley is an attractive, elegant, historic market town which was mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086, with many interesting Georgian and Victorian buildings. The River Leven flows through the town and is crossed by the ancient Pack Horse Bridge. Levenside provides visitors with a peaceful riverside walk, well planted with trees, as a contrast to the bustle of the High Street. The town has a distinguished wide cobbled main street lined with Georgian and Regency buildings. It is well served with shops, banks, public houses and restaurants and the weekly Friday markets are held on the main square. Just off the market square is the Church of St Peter & St Paul which has woodwork carved by the Mouseman of Kilburn. Surrounded by the Cleveland Hills and close to the northern edge of the North York Moors, Stokesley provides an ideal base from which to explore the Yorkshire Dales, the heather clad North Yorkshire Moors and the pretty market towns of Great Ayton, Northallerton and Thirsk. The seaside spa resort of Saltburn is 30 mins drive away whilst Whitby, Runswick Bay and Robin Hoods Bay are within easy reach.
