“The house was very well situated for visiting York centre, in an attractive local area with local shops, pubs and restaurants and a good park and play area nearby.”

The house was quirky and cozy, even with the many stairs. The only negative experience, which somehow spoiled our visit, was when we were leaving the property. We were taking the last few items out of the house maybe 2 - 3 minutes after 10 am (check out time). Our cases were already outside on the path. We were met by one of the owners of the house who was clearly annoyed that we were still on the property after 10 am. In fact we felt very much in the way and we were not asked at all about our ...

We were met by one of the owners of the house who was clearly annoyed that we were still on the property after 10 am. In fact we felt very much in the way and we were not asked at all about our stay, which we felt was inappropriate considering that we were paying costumers. No even "a safe journey" was uttered as we left. Our very short delay in leaving the property was perhaps due to the fact that we were travelling with two small children!

“A lovely and well-provisioned house - down to useful torches in the side tables!”

We had been warned about the many steps in the house, which did turn out to be a slight issue. They are not just between the rooms, but within the rooms (particularly the open-plan kitchen/dining/living room) but that was very clear on the listing - I just mention it to bring it to others attention. The location was absolutely perfect - quiet enough to have our windows open on warm nights, but only a minute from the wonderful Bishy Road and 10 minutes from the city centre. A great holiday overall!

“We had a wonderful stay at Baggergate House.”

Best equipped property out of many we've rented. All the little extras -toiletries, torches, kitchen staples, dressing gowns, cleaning products could go on and on. Loved the hot tub. Beds all comfy and quiet. Just a short walk to the very centre of York. Not one for those who don't like steps, we found they added character. Whoever furnished and decorated the house has done a great job. We managed the parking challenge well. One car nearby using the Resident's permit, the other using Justpark. OK you need to plan that side well but what city is easy nowadays. Thanks to Heidi for your advice - you aim to please and certainly do.

“Lovely townhouse situated within easy reach of the train station and has quick access to the City Wall.”

With the award winning Bishy Road round the corner with its high street shops and restaurants it is in an ideal location. Delightfullly quirky layout of the house sets it aside from the basic layout styles and with a hot tub available, is ideal for a laidback lifestyle. Highly recommended with lovely owners in Heidi and Trish.

“Wow this property is amazing.”

Has everything you need. Beds are so comfortable, which can be unusual with rentals. We loved every moment about being here. Walking into the city and not having to drive for the whole weekend. The hot tub is clean and well maintained. The own is so lovely and caring too. What a nice little welcome basket too. We will definitely use again if we visit York.

“Surprisingly quiet house despite the central position.”

No use for anyone with mobility issues. Kids would love all the nooks and crannies. Well equipped with lots of extra touches. Owners have thought of everything.

It was such a great location for easy walking access to the centre of York. Lovely, clean and comfortable. Heidi was really friendly and helpful with all questions answered very promptly. The hot tub was a real hit with the kids! Would highly recommend as a York citi break holiday home. Only negative we can think of is the unloading and loading of luggage as busy road but all the good far outweighs this inconvenience.

“Just returned from a two night stay in Baggergate House.”

We loved the house and found it really comfortable and quirky. The top floor room with the two low divans was absolutely fine. Although the beds are low, they are full length and extremely comfortable. The bathroom is great and we just took turns for the shower … after all, we knew there was only one when we booked and there are plenty of loos! The hot tub was good fun and very relaxing after a day walking round York. The owners were very accommodating and helpful regarding storing our luggage both on arrival and departure. All in all we had a lovely stay thank you. Paula

“We greatly enjoyed our stay at Baggergate House, which is conveniently located to easily get to the centre of the city.”

Nearby there’s even a bus stop for the hop on/hop off sightseeing bus. Just around the corner is a charming and very useful parade of local shops (butcher, greengrocer) and eateries, and also includes a Barclays ATM, a small Sainsburys, and a wine bar and pub. Inside the house, the attractive facilities are modern and comfortable, and the place was immaculate and surprisingly quiet, given that it fronts on a busy street. One caveat: The third bedroom, with its very low, sloped ceiling and short divan beds, is only suitable for children or a small adult. Fortunately, one of us is just five feet tall, so we managed.

“Our second time at this lovely property and we'll be back for a third if we can.”

Beautifully clean and spacious and has a real "home" feel to it; it was always lovely to come home to the house at the end of a day. The location is amazing: city walls right outside, ten minute walk from the train station, ten minute walk from Clifford's Tower and Coppergate and on a main bus route too. Fantastic.

“A jewel near the city centre.”

We had the delight in staying here for a week and couldn't have asked for more. The house is deceptively spacious and has a lovely quirky layout. The welcome goodies were a lovely touch and much needed after a long drive to get there. The decor was very tasteful and the towels, slippers and robes were the icing on the cake. The jacuzzi... wow... a lifesaver after walking around the city all day. We used in several times and it certainly takes the aches and pains away! The house is perfectly placed to explore York on foot or to drive to nearby towns. So much to do, so little time. Local amenities and eateries are excellent and its a very friendly neighbourhood. We'd recommend this property to anyone on a city break in York. It's perfect.

“Your crockery is too big for the dishwasher so the big plates had to be washed by hand.”

The glasses also too big for the washer. The double bed mattress was soft and uncomfortable. The duvet too hot in the summer months

“We (3 female friends) booked Baggergate House for a 50th birthday celebration weekend.”

The house is beautiful - very quirky with all the stairs, but extremely welcoming, comfortable and just lovely. We had everything we needed to make our stay special; and Heidi & Trish (our hosts) were so kind - they not only provided the basic necessities like milk and tea so we could have a quick cuppa before venturing back out again, they also left us an impressive welcome basket of goodies, with Prosecco! We had a fabulous time and the house went a long way to making it a special weekend. All 3 of us are now thinking about going back for family holidays!

Loads of extra special bits. Basics supplied for when you arrive, milk, snacks, sweets and even a bottle of bubbly. All linen and towels (separate ones for the hot tub) supplied with dressing gowns and slippers too. The property is just outside of the city walls in easy walking distance to the centre of town. Parking is available with a permit (supplied when asked for)in nearby streets (it felt very safe to leave the car). Would highly recommend this property.

“Beautiful house and close to the centre of York.”

Wonderfully clean and owners provide towels for the hot tub, robes and slippers for each guest. Arrival snacks plus milk and Prosecco were a lovely touch. Also has everything you may need such as tea/coffee, condiments, shampoo etc. The hot tub was wonderful and we were so lucky to have such great weather too. York is a fabulous place for a long weekend and highly recommend Baggergate house. Lots of steps in the property though so beware if you don’t have good mobility.

“Baggergate house is absolutely fantastic.”

Definitely one of the best holiday homes we have ever stayed in. The fixtures and fittings were very high quality and everything was thought of. It was literally like being at home in that everything was there. The owners clearly take a great pride in this lovely home and enjoy providing a great experience for their guests. The location of the property is outstanding- overlooking the City Walls, and a short walk into the city centre. Local shops -‘Bishy Road Shops’ are vibrant and varried. The proximity of the lovely Rowntree Park was also a bonus for us. The availability of a free parking permit was also a huge plus.

“We enjoyed our stay at Baggergate House, property was extremely clean and kitchen was fantastically well equipped, there was also a lovely good basket of treats on arrival.”

Hot tub was fab. TV had access to Netflix. The location was great and really near Rowntree Park which was excellent for the kids. Also near great coffee shop and ice cream parlour. There were more steps in the house that I had appreciated (possibly as I overlooked description), so a few between dining room and kitchen and lounge, we just had to watch our 2yo carefully, for that reason may suit slightly older families. There was no parking but very close to train station and car park nearby though expensive. Overall great stay, I would definitely recommend this house.
