Rydal Cottage

We had a lovely stay at this character cottage in Scarborough.

It was full of charm and history, which made it feel really special. The cottage was well equipped with everything we needed, and the location was excellent—just a short walk to the shops, restaurants, and the seafront. There are a few minor maintenance issues that could do with some attention, particularly with a couple of the doors and windows, and parking could occasionally be a challenge depending on the time of day. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay and would happily recommend it to anyone looking for a comfortable, historic cottage in a fantastic central location.

Excellent position to explore Scarborough with views across the bay and a five minute walk up the hill to the castle and St Mary's church, with spectacular sunsets over the North Beach.

Accommodation was very clean and well presented. Tasteful furnishings and comfortable beds. Fantastic shower! Apologies for not replacing the reed diffuses in their places after I put them in the cupboards, as I am allergic to them. One thing worth mentioning - we had a little trouble with the front door lock. The key was temperamental and on occasions we had difficulty locking and unlocking it. Perhaps this was caused by the heat and may need some attention for future guests. Lastly the weather made our seaside holiday perfect and we escaped the heatwave in the South! PS this is my second stay in the cottage

The former headmaster's house is located in the centre of Scarborough from where you can reach most sights on foot.

The nearest pub (Scarborough Arms) is a five minute walk away and strongly recommendable. In the house you will find everything you need and I really do not want to repeat everything that has been written already. The house is kept very clean and unlike stated in an older review you will find parking permits for the area when opening the front door. In the kitchen you will find The kitchen is also equipped with all necessary things, instant coffee, tea bags, sugar and milk - just to let you know if you plan to go shopping before you arrive at the house. Washing-up liquids and toilet paper is also provided. I stayed at the house with my two sons (10 and 12) and we can state that if we come back to Scarborough for a holiday, it will definitely be Rydal Cottage again!

Clean and tastefully decorated. Well equipped with good quality essentials. No problem with car parking.

We had a wonderful stay at Rydal Cottage.

We used it as a base to look after our Scarborough Grandchildren. It is ideally located with easy access to North & South Bay. We had no problem with parking at the property and were very grateful for the parking permits. The cottage was very well equipped and had everything that we needed. Our grandchildren loved having a holiday at home and want us to do it again. I am sure we will! Thanks

Rydal cottage was lovely.

Good facilities, easy to use parking permit, great enclosed courtyard and comfy beds! The shower was a bit temperamental at switching on each day, but when we did get it working it was lovely and hot. Central spot for shops, the castle and walks. I would certainly recommend this property.

Rydal Cottage is a great accomodation in Scarborough.

It offers you everything you need for a great holiday. It is situated to both bays and harbour. Great beds, great fittings. Would highly recommend this accomodation.

Great little cottage, we have stayed in before in 2023.

Cottage is in a good location for walking into Scarborough. Most other seaside locations are only 20- 60 minutes away. Views from the upstairs windows are very scenic, the sunrise over the bay is particularly magnificent.

Well furnished cosy cottage in a good location for the town, beach and castle.

Bathroom was great except for the door latch which is to tight and means toy need to slam the door to shut it. Bedrooms are fair size with comfortable beds. Living room is comfortable and relaxing. Dining area is OK but could do with a smaller table as makes room cramped. Kitchen is very small but does have everything needed. Great to have washing machine available and a nice courtyard setup. Maybe could do with a better clean as there was quite a bit of dust and cobwebs on light fittings and ceilings. Maybe longer car ticket (week or 4 day) as had to change every 2 days.

The double bed was a bit small for two but in general we enjoyed the stay, cottage was well equipped

Ideally situated between the North and South bays this interesting and very well equipped house has absolutely everything you might need for a holiday break.

We particularly loved the dog Welcome basket. Whilst the building itself is old the inside is light, well furnished and cosy. We would thoroughly recommend.

The owner was very helpful and even allowed us in a day earlier cottage was lovely and cosy we arrived and all very clean my only small criticism was we booked because we normally have a real fire and this cottage stated 2 gas fires but this is not the owners fault it’s Sykes for listing them when they never worked would highly recommend this cottage

This is a little gem of a property - it is a 19th century former schoolmasters house - very lovingly restored by the current owners.

It is warm and cosy, contains everything you could need for a contented stay and we loved it. There were some nice views from some of the windows and it was only minutes to get to the town. A parking pass is supplied for which we were very grateful as this can pose a problem. We had a lovely time and settled in straightaway - the standard of cleanliness was the best I had encountered and the overall atmosphere is very welcoming

We had a wonderful stay at Rydal cottage, despite awful weather.

It is cosy very well equipped and furnished and absolutely spotless. It is in a great location very near to south beach. We particularly liked the brilliant shower. There is also sky TV and netflix which was an unexpected bonus. Hope to return again.

There were umpteen things which were not good. Steep steps down to a tiny kitchen. More steep steps down to the back yard we had to go through to get to the freezer in a distant utility room. No hand rail. Sitting room furniture very uncomfortable despite cushions. Whole place very cramped even though there were only two of us and it was meant for four. Two gas rings would not light without a battery gun which we did not know was there at first. Bathroom door would not shut let alone lock. Radiator in sitting room did not work. Very disappointed. Don’t know how you rate the properties you advertise but this is not good.

Good location, easy access to town and seafront & within walking distance of all the attractions (if you're up for it).

Compact kitchen, but had all the appliances needed. TV can only be viewed from one of the two sofas, which wasn't an issue for us as a pair but it would've been an issue if we'd gone as a family.

Wonderful time cottage lovely and comfy everything we needed for our stay.

lovely old house , good location but very cold.

The old doors were ill fitting and caused big draughts. We were cold all weekend. There were no blankets etc to wrap around us. The warmest room in the house was bathroom. We didnt use the kitchen at all

Rydal cottage was lovely and very tastefully decorated.

It was very clean and really well equipped with everything you might need and more . It was close and in walking distance to the seafront . The beds were really comfortable and good bedding . It wasn't the biggest of cottages but great for small family or two couples. We had a lovely welcome pack with coffee tea biscuit that we appreciated Would definitely recommend.

We have stayed here twice and we won’t stay again which is a shame as we loved the place last time .

It was very dirty in places NOT cleaned well at all awful cobwebs and peeling paper off bedroom ceiling and in the dining room damp there was rubbish in the bin from previous people and the bedding smelt awful not clean . Really unhappy about this as last time was really lovely!!

We all enjoyed our stay at Rydal cottage, after reading all the feedback from previous guests a lot of the issues had been sorted, a higher backed sofa would be my only suggestion to make it even better.

The cottage was well equipped with modern appliances and is in a good position for both bays. We would certainly come back again in the future.

Lack of cushions on settee made it uncomfortable as it is so deep support is needed for your back.

The cottage is small but perfectly formed!

The kitchen was much smaller than expected but had everything we needed - it was very well equipped. The location was amazing - we would walk down to the beach in the evening for a wonder around the arcades and a drink and the cottage was a cosy base to return to. We really enjoyed our stay at Rydal Cottage.

This property was booked for my elderly parents which was unsuitable for their mobility When booking it did not highlight the full extent of the area within walking distance into town and steps involved But suitable for able bodies and a nice cottage to stay

Really lovely place to stay.

Felt like home from home. Great views out of some of the windows of the South Bay. Set in an ideal location both myself and my wife and daughter would highly recomend this place and we would love to return here soon for our next break in Scarborough.

Well-furnished property in a quiet street very close to Scarborough Castle and walking distance to all amenities.

Friendly neighbours who are happy to advise on tourist spots to visit. The kitchen is supplied with very good quality crockery and saucepans and a Tassimo machine. The only ingredients available were salt and pepper shakers, a small bottle of olive oil would have been helpful. The beds are extremely comfortable although the smaller room was a tight squeeze with two large single beds. Washing machine and clothes horse in the utility room is a bonus, although a laundry basket would have been handy here. The only real let down was the bathroom. The cheap-as-chips one-ply toilet roll only lasted a couple of days which meant we were improvising by day three! The malfunctioning liquid dispenser needs to be replaced ASAP and where was the bath mat? All these things could be rectified easily and would have made the holiday rental 5-stars.

The cottage wasn't cleaned properly, the kitchen was dirty so had to clean everywhere before unpacking so wasn't happy .

The cottage itself was nice with good features and it was close by to everything.

We had a lovely time at the house, it’s a nice cottage.

For some reason we couldn’t get hot water at the beginning but then we sorted it. No problems at all. Very comfortable beds. Nice back garden full of sunshine!

Lovely little house in a great location.

We didn't use the car once. Sea life Centre was 25 mins walk (with a set of small legs), North bay 15 mins and south bay 5-10 mins. Little patio outside was lovely for the evening. Impressed how well equipped the house was. We really appreciated all the small things provided for use too (especially the sachets of diluting juice and the castle guide book). Thanks again for making our stay so comfortable.

Absolutely loved our stay in the cottage.

It had everything you could want and more. It was spotless. The only thing I didn't like was the rollerball catch on the bathroom. It was really loud when closing and opening the door. I would recommend this cottage to anyone.

The placement of this property is superb with easy access to both the North and South side of Scarborough.

(Not so easy if you are a wheelchair user it has to be said). The cottage is beautifully equipped with every detail thought into. I would highly recommend this property and want to thank the owners for their thoughtfulness.

Lovely cottage - stayed there aa a couple for a week, and my daughter and partner also joined us for a couple of days.

The cottage was roomy enough for us all. We didn't cook at the cottage, but there appeared to be a good range of pots and pans. Good WiFi, good shower, comfortable beds and quiet and dark at night - covered all the essentials for me. Heating and hot water controls would benefit from updating, but a minor point. Everything else was spot on and the cottage itself, though in a quiet area, is still within easy walking distance of cafes, restaurants, supermarkets and the sea front (for the reasonably fit - Scarborough is hilly!).

A beautifully decorated cottage apart from the doors and door knobs , had difficulty opening the bedroom door after closing it and caught my hand closing one of them .

Everything you need , very well equipped and spotlessly clean . The second bedroom is only suitable for children really as there is not much room to move about for adults , I would definitely recommend to friends and family.

The cottage is lovely , however we do agree with some other comments in the visitors book that the door handles need attention.

Very hard to open and so close to the the door frame that i trapped my finger when turning the knob . The water pressure is very low so the shower over the bath is not brilliant, but theres probably not much that can be done about that. Having said that, it is an old cottage which has been updated very tastefully and we enjoyed our stay very much. We would definitely book again.

Fantastic location to easily reach both north and south beaches, and the castle.

Well kitted out, cosy cottage, with nice touches such as welcome pack, DAB radio, coffee machine. Stayed as 2 adults and a baby. Travel cot and highchair were good quality (although a real squeeze to fit highchair on tiled kitchen floor) and would struggle to fit travel cot in bedroom if 4 adults staying. Some of the door handles are very stiff and so those with joint issues may struggle, likewise an awkward step down into the kitchen. All in all, would highly recommend this cottage to a similar party.

Great location- handy for beach and town centre - although very hilly!

House has everything you need and is very lovely. Not having proper shower with teenagers was problematic but managed! Parking can be hit and miss outside house

What a great Cottage to spend a week in .

It was everything we needed , great location for the beach and bars/restaurants. Easy parking with the permits . Cottage was really clean and comfortable and well equipped! Very well organised regarding keys . Wish I’d booked 2 weeks as the weather was amazing. !!

Couldn't find a bin for food waste.

No freezer compartment in the fridge. Because it was cold we had to put the heating on ,no heat in the bathroom, When tiding up when we were leaving we would have vacuumed ,but couldn't find one? Rydal Cottage was really good place to stay,just a few things to address, which might make it even better,Good place to stay.
