This was a very compact, clean and comfortable cottage in a very good location.

. I would be happy to recommend it to anyone wishing to stay in Pickering.

Castlegate is a welcoming cottage in a perfect location in Pickering - quiet and a stones throw from the castle.

The garden in particular is a lovely little haven. We willcertainly return.

The cottage was lovely, quiet, comfy, clean and relaxing.

Our Springer Spaniel usually takes 2-3 nights to settle away from home but she settled first night and slept right through so she definitely felt safe and comfortable. The cottage had everything you could need, the bed was extremely comfortable. The garden was enclosed too which was great.

Very enjoyable stay at Castle Cottage which was clean, cosy and very comfortable.

Perfectly situated and extremely close to Pickering Castle and within easy walking distance of the steam railway station and town centre. Every thing that we needed was provided as was a useful and helpful welcome pack. Recommended - as is Pickering’s White Swan Inn which is a perfect bar and restaurant.

Would of been 5 star but a few cobwebs in the property let it down apart from that we could not fault it .

Well equipped and comfortable, with the most comprehensive set of cottage details and other information I have ever come across in a holiday cottage, thankyou Tracey. Ideally situated just outside Pickering centre but close enough to walk there within 5 to 10 minutes, depending on how quickly you walk. Parking was fine, only one night we could not park outside the front door, but no problem as there was sufficient space across the road. Would certainly visit again.

We had a great week at Castle Cottage.

It is in an amazingly peaceful part of Pickering. It is close to town for shops and cafes. The garden was perfect for sitting out and totally secure for our small dog. Ideally we prefer a king size bed and this is only a double but the mattress was comfy. We stayed as a couple which was fine but it could be very cosy with 4 adults there. The bathroom is downstairs with plentiful hot water and a decent shower. We would definitely stay again!

We have visited in Winter and Summer months and enjoyed everything about Pickering and Castlegate cottage.

Owner had taken care to provide many extras you wouldn’t expect. Nice garden to enjoy relaxing in.

A fantastic little home from home with everything we needed for our weeks stay.

The cottage, although small, was well laid out with a big kitchen area and beautiful garden with seating area. There was even a barbecue if needed. Our dog also loved the area to the front of the castle, adjacent to the property, and visited there and the path around the castle several times a day. A perfect location with on street parking (we always got parked nearby); a little gem!

A really rather lovely little cottage, peaceful and away from the hubbub of town yet a mere couple of mins walk to the shops/pubs/restaurants.

Very clean and well equipped. Enjoyed a few sundowners in the garden in the evening too. Worth noting that being an old cottage a couple of the doors are low - I learned to duck...eventually. Fab place, would happily recommend and hope to stay again.

Excellent wee cottage, particularly thoughtfully equipped kitchen which I’m always happy about as I like to cook.

Lots of Crockery (handy with a dishwasher when there’s only two of you) and some very nice glassware too. Very clean, shower powerful and the open fire was lovely. Fantastic location and peaceful garden. The only thing I would feedback is the comfort of the chairs/settee in the front room, could do with some bigger cushions and perhaps a couple of small foot stools but other than that small thing, 10/10. Would love to return

Had a lovely weeks stay at Castle Cottage.

Ideally located in Pickering, just a stone throw away from all the amenities The only thing what could be improved on is blackout curtains in the front bedroom where a street lamp is situated right outside the window.

Lovely cottage.

Enjoyable stay. Well equipped kitchen. Comfy chairs and beds. Canine escape proof garden with gated access into garden via shared alleyway and then via backdoor into tiled floored kitchen and bathroom (muddy dog and boots can be cleaned without dirtying carpets). Dog can be exercised around castle and a pathway that leads up to the community park. Child gate can be installed at bottom of stairs to prevent dog going upstairs.

The Cottage is in an excellent location, just a short walk from the high street.

The living room is small but cosy and fine for 2 people. A treat to have an open fire although it wasn't essential as the central heating was very good. The kitchen is well- equipped. It was useful to have separate bins for recycling. The bed was comfy. Bathroom has a bath and a decent powerful shower. The wi-fi was quite slow but still OK to find online information when we needed it. The garden looked lovely and would be good to use in the warmer weather. Altogether we had a lovely time and would stay again.

12 Castle gate is a lovely property, thoughtfully kitted out and in a great location.

The cottage is warm and a lovely welcome pack was provided together with Christmas decorations.. We'd love to stay there again.

Small but perfectly formed cottage in quiet location just five minutes safe walk away from the heart of the town.

Well equipped kitchen and bathroom with a decent shower were welcome. Town is typically Yorkshire with plenty of cafes and independent shops around. Pickering Castle is just on the doorstep and whilst closed during our stay our dog loved the walk around the moat

The property was as advertised.

It was clean and extremely comfortable. The area was amazing for walks in the country. The quaint little town of pickering was a few minutes walk. Overall an amazing stay.

The cottage is very well equipped with everything we needed, comfortable and well located a few minutes walk from the shops.

Wonderful little cottage in probably the best location in Pickering, just far enough out of town for absolute peace and quiet, we are very familiar with Pickering so knew exactly where it was before we booked, Castle cottage is perfect for 2 people, great enclosed garden for your pooch to mooch ,a lovely kitchen and a lovely bathroom (the shower was that good we had 2 every day) we slept well in the comfortable bed and always managed to park right outside.

..our only slight grumble is that we found the seating in the lounge very uncomfortable, we realise that being a small cottage that space is an issue but after a day out walking/exploring it would of been nice to kick back with your feet up and relax ,we struggled to get comfortable though. This wouldn't stop us coming back as we love Pickering and Castle cottage!

We’ve just returned from a weeks stay at Castle Cottage and could not have been happier with our choice to book!

This is a gorgeous, extremely well looked after little cottage with everything we needed to be comfortable as a family of 4 staying with our dog. There is a lovely little sun trap of a garden where we enjoyed a few al fresco meals, and is only a two minute walk (if that) from Pickering town centre where there are lots of dog friendly pubs and eateries for when we didn’t fancy cooking. This was the perfect base from which to explore North Yorkshire, would recommend Falling Foss, Dalby Forest and a day trip to Whitby on NYMR from Pickering station. Communication from our hosts, Tracey and Ashley, was also top notch and we would not hesitate to book again. A proper little gem of a holiday let, you will not be disappointed!

Thoroughly enjoyed the holiday a lovely relaxing break, just exactly what I needed.

I had a small problem with the keys, this was sorted almost immediately. Full instructions on how to work the appliances, very clean and comfortable. The place was lovely, nothing seemed to be too much trouble. My dog enjoyed being out in the garden. It was a shame I had only booked a week and I had to leave. I sincerely hope the future guests enjoy their stay just as much as I enjoyed mine. God Bless you and thank you.

Such a beautiful, clean cottage.

Really enjoyed our stay. It was our home away from home. Even the kids said are we going home? After a day of exploring the beautiful area of Yorkshire. And they meant the cottage then. Definitely telling my friends about it! And maybe more Dutch people will visit the place!

Fantastic cottage, oozing with character and beamed ceilings close to the castle and not too long a walk to all the amenities of Pickering.

Very pretty yet dog friendly garden with more grass beyond the cottage up towards the castle. Parking is on the street and can get busy but we managed fine. Everything has been thought of within the cottage, with a well-stocked kitchen and lots of thoughtful touches throughout (the torches and night lights were so useful). The welcome pack was much appreciated.

The property was clean, well equipped and in an amazing location. The enclosed garden is great, we could go out in the garden with our dog with no worry they may escape and it was lovely and private to have a morning cup of tea. Would highly recommend staying at this property.

A warm, comfortable and well equipped little cottage.

Nice garden at the back which catches the sun at the bottom throughout the day. Very easy on street parking at the front door. Very comfortable bed. Excellent location; 50 yards from the castle and a 5/10 minute walk to the town centre and the Steam Railway. A couple of really good pubs close by.

An excellent, well maintained and clean cottage.

There was plenty of space for a family of 3 and the kitchen and bathroom were very modern with everything we needed. The beds were very comfy, particularly the double bed which had a new mattress. The location is ideal with about a 10 minute walk to the centre of Pickering. It's on street parking but we got a space reasonably close each day. The road is wide enough for double parking to off load bags, etc.

Cottage well equipped and very clean.

Nice welcome pack which was handy. In a very quiet location, parking was first come but we always managed to park. Ideal for dog owners, plenty of walks near by. Lovely garden but unfortunately didn't get to sit out, too cold. My only problem was the mattress has definitely seen better days, not comfy at all. There is a door between the lounge and the dining area which needs a mind your head sign as my husband banged his head on it many times, if your over 5ft8 remember to duck.

We stayed with young kids for a long weekend and had a great time.

The cottage is pretty much next to Pickering castle (lots of fun for kids to run round) and walking distance to the steam railway and shops of Pickering. The cottage was very comfortable and clean. It had all the amenities we wished for and more (including a lovely welcome pack). Thank you for a wonderful stay.

A gorgeous cottage with wonderful facilities and amenities.

Upon arrival all of the rooms were exceptionally clean and well presented. The living room was welcoming, the dining area was beautiful, the kitchen was well stocked and the bathroom was exceptional. Upstairs, the bedrooms were very cosy and the beds were very comfortable. Behind the cottage, the garden was very well kept. The welcoming gift package was exceptional, providing the first night essentials of milk, tea, coffee and biscuits. Overall, my experience was pleasant and I'd love to return at a later time! I would definitely recommend staying at 12 Castlegate!

Beautiful and charming cosy cottage, lovely old world,being a listed building, but up to date with modern bathroom and kitchen, so it still keeps its oldy world feel Excellent private, secure back garden for our dog.

It was cosy and comfortable. We were very grateful that they accepted our new elderly dog, which they didn't need to, so many thanks. If I could point out two worries, not problems, one being the stair hand rail which was so low we couldn't use it (just us being old no doubt) and secondly the washing machine wasn't working during our visit. Unfortunately we only bring a couple of change of clothes as we usually wash them whilst at the properties. Hand washed but nowhere to dry. Overall we enjoyed our visit and North Yorkshire was wonderful. Couldn't believe how quiet the cottage was.

This lovely cottage, is just how it’s described, we were very lucky with the weather, so after being out during the day, we spent the lovely evenings sitting outside, the garden is beautiful well kept and private.

We cooked at the cottage a few times and everything we needed for use was there. Everywhere was clean. The shower was powerful with plenty of hot water. Going upstairs the main bedroom, was pretty, the bed lovely and comfortable. So if your looking for a gem of a place, look no further. 5 min walk your in the main town. Lovely restaurants which Tracey, the owner had recommended, pubs, shops, everything at hand, King Charles also visited Pickering on the Monday. So it was just a perfect week. A very clean and comfortable property.

Also very welcoming and ideally situated for exploring. A good garden for sitting out in. We would be happy to stay there again. We liked the welcome pack. Parking on the street worked well.

We had a lovely stay at Castle Cottage in early May 2023.

It is ideally located being walking distance from the shops, heritage train station (not main line) and right by the castle. We stayed with our three-year-old who loved the garden and the gentle sounds of the steam trains during the day. There are some nice walks you can take from the front door across the fields or beside the river and the train track. A short drive away are other beauty spots and market towns. Tracey and Ashley gave us some great recommendations beforehand for trips, walks and food. The cottage is compact but very comfortable and the kitchen is well-equipped. Space-wise it was perfect for two adults and one child and could easily fit another child. I think it would be workable, but a bit cosy, with more than two adults in the dining/living space. We had a brief problem with the hot water, which Ashley and Tracey had fixed within just a few hours, despite being out of the country on a holiday of their own (and in a different time zone). All in all we had a great time and would definitely recommend Castle Cottage.

This cottage is a little gem.

So cosy and comfortable. The hosts have supplied everything you could ever need for your stay. It was spotlessly clean, with some gorgeous original features. All topped off with a beautiful cottage garden with ample space to enjoy alfresco meals and evening drinks. They also supply lots of information about the town and local attractions and eateries for you to visits. Absolutely lovely.
