“Keep Cottage was a true home from home.”

It had everything we needed and I loved how if you stay in the winter they have an honesty box for logs. They sent a great welcome pack and we loved the walks they suggested. Parking on the road wasn’t an issue. There was only one day I couldn’t get parked, so had to go into another road, bit spaces open up once the castle has closed so I could then move the car closer to home. The only thing I think could be improved was the WiFi signal bit we did have 4 phones, a laptop & tv competing so ...

Pickering itself was a lovely town with great places to eat, drink & shop, plus other great trips locally - Whitby, York & Dalby Forest.

Quiet location, with the sound of the steam train passing near by. Great location for exploring Pickering, Thornton Le Dale and beaches. Would definitely book again.

“We’ve just spent a wonderful week in Keep Cottage.”

From the moment we entered it was so comfortable and homely, loved everything about it especially the conservatory looking onto the lovely rear garden. It was so peaceful with just the occasional sound from the steam train which was a delight. No trouble with parking, usually right outside or very nearby. Pickering town is lovely too we enjoyed the castle, Beck Isle museum, a trip on the train and a couple of delicious meals in the White Swan. Also a great location for visiting other towns and villages. Altogether an excellent week and we’d certainly like to return to fabulous Yorkshire.

“Keep cottage has been beautifully finished to a high standard by the owners, it is quite comfortable & fairly well equipped.”

I should say, if you're tall like myself, be careful at the top of the stairs, where there is a formidable old wooden beam that's quite low. Parking outside of the property is free, but, that can be an issue if you drive out for the day & come back to no available spaces, but that's a chance you take. Overall, this is a lovely property to base oneself for exploring Pickering & the Yorkshire moors.

“Really well appointed, comfortable and well located cottage.”

For dog owners absolutely perfect with grassed, enclosed garden and plenty of walks from the front door. Close to shops, pubs and restaurants but very quiet and peaceful. Owners very helpful and solve a heating issue immediately. Would definitely return.

Lots of lovely touches we haven't had elsewhere (nice coffee and tea provided with milk in the fridge!) enough dishwasher tablets to actually last the whole week - little details that made all the difference to our stay! “The cottage was excellent, the location perfect for walking into Pickering town and visiting surrounding areas.”

Parking was ideal usually straight outside the property. Having the garden was a plus with a dog and 11 year old grand daughter. The sun room makes this property A+. This was our 4th visit to Pickering and first time at this property but would not hesitate booking again or recommending to friends.

It was only a 5 minute walk into the town which had some great shops and restaurants and a few minutes walk to the steam rai!way. The cottage had a very comfortable conservatory - ideal for cooler/wet days but a beautiful cottage garden for sunny days. Would definitely stay again.

“Beautiful cottage with everything top notch in the way of appliances, bedding etc.”

The conservatory and garden were a delight to sit in and everything was very well maintained, with a useful welcome pack on arrival, including the always needed milk! This was also beautifully presented on a delightful tea tray. The bedrooms were small, but there were three of them, so plenty of space for four people and the two bathrooms were also delightful.Downstairs was extremely spacious, but also very cosy in the living room, when it rained. Blue tooth provided speakers added to our enjoyment. The only downsides were the hill up to the cottage from the town, which was a short distance away and the presence of many flies during the four day hot spell, which vanished when it rained. I understand that this is due to a local chicken farm in Pickering and that Environmental Health are attempting to solve this problem. Pickering has lovely cafes and good takeaways and supermarkets.Eating out at night seemed less popular. We also enjoyed the Local History Museum and guided historical tour of Pickering, a bargain for a very small fee.Other lovely trips included the beautiful walled garden, beside the Castle in Helmsley and its wonderful cafes.There is also a lovely free walk round the moat of very nearby Pickering Castle, which I did every day. All in all, a lovely stay at one of the best cottages we have visited, so far, and we are regular cottage holiday makers!

“This was our first visit to Keep Cottage and after experiencing what a lovely well maintained, clean & homely place it was in which to spend a week in February, it certainly wont be our last.”

We where lucky enough to have some decent weather & took advantage of the conservatory overlooking the well maintained garden which will be a real bonus in warmer weather. Parking was on street in front of the cottage & was only a two minute walk to the shops & pubs etc. There is plenty to see & do in Pickering & is also an ideal base in which to tour the area. You only have to look at the lack of availability of bookings for Keep cottage to see that others are of the same opinion as us & are making return visits.

“Amazing cottage full of charm in the best location in Pickering, very peaceful at night and hearing the birds and steam trains through the bedroom window in the morning was bliss!”

Brilliant enclosed garden for our dog to explore and we could keep an eye on him whilst sitting in the beautiful sun room,plenty of parking outside, we never had any issues and we had 2 cars....what's there not to like about this place...would love to visit again in the warmer weather so we can enjoy the outside space more,ignore any negative comments on previous reviews as I think they are not accurate and I'm guessing the reviewer is the type of person who makes a song and dance if the postman forgets to close their gate!!!! If you book a holiday at Keep Cottage you will have great time like 99% of customers who already have.

“A wonderful cottage - great location.”

We have just returned from our August trip to Yorkshire and stayed at the delightful Keep Cottage! The cottage had everything we needed and more - two bathrooms, a dishwasher, a beautiful garden and a sun room which we used each night to relax in. The location was ideal a few minutes walk into Pickering but also only a 30 minute drive to the coast. It is on street parking but I never had an issue finding a spot even over a busy Bank Holiday. We also did a few walks in the surrounding area and overall we had a lovely week away. I would recommend Keep Cottage to all and I will return.

“We really enjoyed our stay at Keep Cottage.”

It's in an excellent location (on street parking but never had any issues getting parked near the cottage in the school summer hols) - 2 minutes from the castle and a 5 minute walk (down hill) from the town centre/trains. There's also some lovely walks through the woods and an adventure playground. Cappelman's fish and chips (where you can order via app and pop down to collect) was fantastic too, as was the Cedarbarn (between Pickering and Thornton) where we went for Sunday lunch. Was slightly concerned to read the negative review someone had posted from earlier in the summer but we thought the cottage was absolutely lovely - full of character, beds really comfy and a gorgeous, enclosed garden that our son loved playing in. Maybe the scatter cushions on the settees/chairs could do we a revamp (i.e. bit more stuffing) to make them a bit more comfy but that is a very, very minor point. I had a couple of questions for the owners, which I sent via text and they were really helpful and responded quickly - that said, all the info you need is in the folder when you arrive. We stay in Pickering a lot and love it - an excellent base for either going to the coast or in the other direction to Hemsley/Danby/Hutton le Hole/Dalby etc. and also near to Malton and Flamingoland and not that far from York. Thanks for a lovely stay.

“The cottage is in need of attention to bring it to the description listed, Having rented a number of cottages through Sykes and being very pleased previously this was very disappointing.”

The welcome pack of 5 biscuits tea and coffee and milk compared to others in previous cottages was poor and did not give you the feeling any real thought had gone into it simply for cheapness. The kitchen table being a pine slatted construction was very unhygienic with lots of debris between slats from previous guests. This would benefit from a glass top in order to allow proper cleaning, or replacement. The pans were dirty and the pizza pan had burnt on pizza toaster dirty. The upstand at the back of the kitchen worktop had gap allowing a build up of debris to occur and not allowing proper cleaning of worktops plus the top of the upstand covered in grease and dust. The kitchen floor is in need of a deep clean due to the type of flooring. The vacuum cleaner was solid with rubbish which means its operation would be very poor. The cushions in the living room were flat!! Giving no support in your back and have clearly not been replaced for many years. The doors on the en-suite bathroom cabinet were cracking. The bedrooms were adequate. The conservatory was nice and the garden was nice. We choose because of location and reviews however we do no not feel the reviews previously were accurate. I also wonder what involvement if any the owners actually have with the property, I would suggest not enough unless these are the standards the feel acceptable. I would also make the point about contacting guests regarding bins if needed should be done at a reasonable time not 10.05 pm. Pictures are available to support comments.

Lovely Conservatory and enclosed garden ideal for our dog. Kitchen well equipped. Some lovely places to visit. No problem with parking always plenty of spaces and we have a camper van. The cottage was very well cleaned. Housekeeper did a good job. Thank you for milk and biscuits too. Hope to return. And would definitely recommend, you won’t be disappointed.. The owner even texted to check everything was okay.

Comfortable beds and furniture. Well placed for walking into town centre and convenient garden for dog easily accessed through conservatory. One minor note kitchen tap needs washer replacement as it was dripping continuously. Only used log burner once as central heating kept cottage warm throughout. Would definitely visit again .

I’ve rated it 4 star for comfort purely due to the seating in the living room. We found the single chair low and the sofa backing onto the stairs quite hard and uncomfortable but it would not stop us from booking again. The beds were super comfy. Lovely comfortable rooms and great secure back garden. Everything as described. Really enjoyed it. Our only problem was that it was on a popular route to the castle and lots of people walking past the front windows with their dogs which set my dog barking a bit. So we had to keep the curtains shut. This didn't spoil our stay though.

Only problem we did have was hitting our head on the low ceiling at bottom of stairs as you go into the sitting room but we got used to ducking. Ideal location for many North Yorkshire attractions. Pickering is a very nice friendly town. Lots of great places to eat or get takeout from.

Lovely and clean on arrival. The owners obviously had put a lot of care and attention into making the cottage a welcoming cosy place, just right for a family of four + a dog + a Grandad! Were a little concerned whether Grandad would be ok with cottage stairs, so pleased to find they were very manageable. Beautiful enclosed garden which was lovely to sit out in the evenings. Very good location; easy walk straight into woods and around castle, and less than 5 minutes walk into town or to the NYMR. Parking on road outside not a problem, even though we had large people carrier. We would definitely like to return to Keep cottage again please!

The only things I missed having around were oven gloves, bleach for the kitchen sink and toilet duck for the loos. Just little things and certainly didn’t detract from a wonderful holiday, we would definitely book again if we came back to the area.

“This was our 3rd visit to Keep Cottage, it’s a fantastic property with excellent facilities.”

It is in the perfect location to enjoy Pickering and the surrounding areas. (Thornton-le-dale being one of our favourites!) Pickering castle is right on the doorstep and the North Yorkshire Moors Steam train station running to Whitby is just 5 minutes walk! We visited the Beck Isle museum for the first time this year and it was great, much bigger than it looked from the outside, this was enjoyed by both the children and adults - definitely worth a visit, also you can return for free anytime within 12 months of your visit if you keep your receipt! Helmsley castle, Rievaulx Abbey and Kirkham Priory (all English heritage properties) are all relatively close by and worth taking the time to visit if you can! We enjoyed breakfast in ‘Feast’ good quality food, friendly service. The White Swan next door is lovely for an evening meal, but make sure you book early! We can also recommend Capplemans fish and chip shop, which also has a dine in option! Gary and Rachel were extremely helpful, keeping in touch throughout the stay and prior to arrival making sure everything was just right for us. The cottage was super clean as always and the enclosed garden as beautiful as ever! We enjoyed having the log fire burning on some of the colder/wetter evenings, making the cottage even cosier! Our group consisted of 4 adults, 2 children and 1 dog and Keep Cottage met all of our needs perfectly.

Very well equipped and very clean. Ideally situated a few minutes walk from the centre of Pickering. The private garden was perfect for the glorious week of weather and I would imagine the cottage is lovely and cosy for a winter break. One hopefully helpful suggestion to the owners would be to supply a few comfortable garden loungers for maximum enjoyment of the garden in Summer and some sunshades ( there is little shade in the garden) and possibly a larger outdoor table( there is a smaller table with 4 chairs at the moment) so that 5 could comfortably sit round during the summer months. But in summary, a great cottage for a lovely break.

Although only a five minute walk into the town of Pickering it is lovely and quiet in the cottage. The rooms were spotlessly clean and the beds comfy. The garden was great for our little dog to potter around in and completely secure so she couldn't get out. The views from the garden are stunning and it is very sheltered. The milk in the fridge and selection of nice biscuits was very welcome when we arrived. We have had a lovely holiday and will be back again soon.

“Having holidays with Sykes before we knew the standards would be high and we were not disappointed.”

The Cottage was lovely and clean and comfortable. It was in an ideal location within five minute walk to the village where there was a good selection of shops, pubs and restaurants. We could walk out the front door and straight onto a lovely walk round the castle and through the woods which was ideal for our spaniel. We spent a lovely day in Scarborough and Whitby and did lots of walks nearby. We can particularly recommend The Black Swan Pub, The White Swan and the Willowgate Bistro - all great food and especially recommend Willowgate for their steaks!! Also the afternoon tea at the Middleton Tea Parlour nearby is recommended. We look forward to spending more time in Keep Cottage Pickering in the future. Trish & Ronnie Lunt

Easy parking outside the front door. Having two bathrooms was an added bonus. We would definitely come back - probably in the spring/summer when we could enjoy the conservatory and the beautiful garden and more of the excellent walks from the door.

Easy 5 minute walk into centre of Pickering. 3 dog friendly pubs , we used the Bay Horse. Hourly bus services to Whitby , Scarborough and York. We really enjoyed our week at Keep Cottage.

We made use of the log store in the garden to have a lovely fire in the evenings, it was great not to have to buy logs from the shop and to use the cottage honesty box instead. Pickering is a great base for trips out to the coast, Dalby forest, York etc and having Pickering Castle and the NYMR on the doorstep was great for our two adventurous boys. We would certainly return.

Pickering itself is a nice small town with everything you need - good pubs & shops - and is a really good location for exploring.
