“A lovely comfortable and cute little property.”

Far away from hustle and bustle. But with a car close enough to all amenities, including a 5 minute drive to the beautiful Town of Whitby. The view from property was stunning looking across to Whitby Town, harbour and the Whitby Abbey. The owners made us feel very comfortable, and left us to our lovely time away.

“Lovely little cottage short car ride from Whitby and Robin Hoods bay.”

We were greeted by Faye the owner the on arrival and shown around. The kitchen area is small but adequate for catering for two. The sofa in the sitting area is larger than it appears in photos and comfortable. The bedroom has a wardrobe, chest of drawers and bedside tables and the bed is super comfortable, We had really good nights sleep here. Away from the bustle of Whitby the cottage is peaceful and free parking is a bonus. We would recommend for couples looking for a relaxing break. Thanks to Faye for being a lovely host.

With the bonus of a dedicated dog field and plenty of nice walks we really couldn't have asked for more. “Well upon arrival was greeted by Kay the owner who was pleasant, and showed us the cottage which was a little underwhelming as it wasn't quite like the picture on the website.”

We expected quite a long building, turns out that part of it was a check in office. There was a small fence panel that you had to drag across to get in to a very very tiny seating area but you couldn't sit there as there were so many fly's. Being on a farm I suppose, when entering the cottage seemed quite nice but very small. And we were very disappointed that the basics things like loo rolls and not even a bottle of milk to make a brew after a long drive. The last thing I wanted to do was drive to the nearest supermarket to get essentials.the paddock was ok but not mowed and we had to be careful as there's a mound at the bottom that apet could easily escape from. And then there was the moors fires now I know that the owner isn't to blame but I rang to say we had to leave early as the fire brigade were on the farm warning us about the possibility of it spreading in our direction but not even a reply we tried to find her before we left but she was nowhere to be seen so we left as I was suffering with the smoke. I tried to get a partial refund as we only stayed 2 nights and not the 4 as planned but they said they were waiting for the owner to get back well I'm sure they have had plenty of time to get in touch . overall very disappointed with our little break very very costly for the time we had and we will not be returning...

“When I rang the owner for access information I had to leave two voicemails before they rang me back to tell me there would be there to let me in.”

Strange set up but it made sense when I arrived as there is a reception and bell for the camp site. I didn’t realise from the photos this was a site for camping too. The owners, Alex and Kay are very friendly and live literally next door. The area outside the cottage is not private at all and they have to walk through the area to access their property which set my dog off barking and then their dogs. The cottage is next to a dairy farm with a friendly farmer who gave me lots of great tips for dog walks locally (the owners of the cottage went away for 4 days and he assumed I was looking after their establishment!) The cottage is ideally located for all the popular places on the Yorkshire coast and the pub is about 1.5 miles away. The views are great from the local fields. The enclosed dog field is very useful indeed. The cottage is basic with everything one needs however it’s a little tired. The duvet cover poppers were broken, the kitchen equipment minimal and no sieve so when I made pasta I had nothing to drain it through. There is no extractor fan as the cooker is old fashioned. This means opening the windows and lots of flies coming in. The kitchen drawers need attention as does the front door as they stick. The door between the living area doesn’t close properly so I had to wedge it with a chair to stop my dog coming in at 0400 when it gets light to wake me up. The cottage would benefit from a small bin in the bathroom for stuff you can’t put down the toilet

Dog field a brilliant idea. Note that the 'mile' to the pub (in Fylingthorpe, good food and well worth a visit) and shop is quite steep, not a simple stroll. Nice place but facilities a little limited.

“Brilliant location and base for visiting the local area.”

Doors and kitchen drawers could do with some maintenance. The photo of the garden with picnic bench and seating is very misleading. The owner said they’ve not been there for ages and have been trying to get the photo removed. Email regarding key collection also misleading as it says people arriving on a Friday should arrive after 5pm. We risked getting there just after 3 and were ok. Very friendly owners. We really enjoyed our stay.

It’s set on a working farm but there was no disruptions. Nice field for dogs to run in all fenced off. It’s in a good place for travelling to different locations in the area and supermarkets just down the road.

There was plenty of room for two in the bedroom and lounge/dining area. The kitchen although well equipped is a little small for two at the same time! We were somewhat disappointed with the views from inside the property. We wrongly assumed we would have an open view. As we didn’t spend a lot of time at the property this wasn’t much of an issue.

I do think if 3pm is advertised and that is one of the reasons I chose this cottage it should be adhered to. Faulty wardrobe door which came off hinges and hit me in face just below the eye, please ensure this is fixed by owner. did not see owner, no one checked all was ok which was unusual.

The cottage is very well equipped with everything needed. Its very warm, cosy, comfortable, well maintained and clean. The mattress and topper are of really good quality and very comfy. We had a lot of snow whilst there and didn't need the heating on above 20, it must have really good insulation. Our 14 year old dog enjoyed the snow and private dog area. The views are stunning. we found the cottage immaculate well equipped for our needs and comfortable .The bed was kingsize which was comfy and warm and there was plenty of room to put your clothes . As it is on a farm there are no street lights so the night light in the kitchen is a very good idea to give some light if you need the toilet at night . Abbey view will be our first choice when we go back to Whitby .

Also,very dog friendly. There's a dog walking enclosure with poo bin available, which is handy or you can take a stroll up the relatively quiet lanes and footpaths on the doorstep. The cottage was well equipped and cosy. Had everything we needed and was very comfortable. In the record breaking temperatures it kept cool which was good.

Good views looking out over towards Whitby with the cottage set within a rural and quiet location. We would recommend a bathroom refresh as it felt a little tired in its decoration, but it provided an adequate / hot shower as well as the other amenities.

“We had a great stay, from the warm welcome when we arrived to the ease of checkout, the whole experience was great, The pictures on the website don't do the property justice, as a few updates to the facilities have been made since they were put on.”

The kitchen has been updated and the furniture changed. The cottage was well equipped and comfortable. It was just the right size for the two of us and an energetic springer spaniel. Good location for exploring the east coast, Easy to find and easy access to the main roads to travel around the area. Would highly recommend this cottage for a well deserved break.

Very friendly owners. Our only comment is that the fron tdoor faces onto a concrete yard with the small grass sitting out area on the other side of the building. A bit more outdoor furniture would be good. We really enjoyed our stay at Abbey View Cottage. The combination of coastal paths with moorland walks and plenty of good places to eat in Robin Hoods Bay and nearby Whitby was ideal.

Garden detached from the property, across an access track. One corner of this garden had what appeared to be rotting farm waste. Upon opening the curtains in the mornings we were met with a view across the courtyard that was covered in dog poo from the owners' dogs. Nice large bedroom but windows had some damp and mould issues.

The cottage was very cosy and had everything we needed. As the evenings we’re getting chillier plenty of heating was provided. The views from outside the cottage were spectacular looking over Whitby Bay, the Abbey and the sea. The neighbouring farm added to the backdrop. It was situated well for exploring the coast and the moors. Would recommend this cottage.

Good facilities and kitchen. A quiet rural location, but not far from Sainsbury's, Whitby etc. However it did not merit the euphoric comments in the visitor's book (Best ever etc etc ) For the price, I would have given it 5/5, but a few niggles lower it somewhat. We made fair comment in the book, but left a separate note for the owners along the lines :- No one ever enquired '' Everything OK? " We arrived on a very cold afternoon. Suspect no one in previous week, as the cottage was not warm. The extra electric heater ( mentioned on line ) was not working. We used our own fan heater to warm it up. Next day, all was cosy. One bedside light was not working - too small and low anyway. Grill pan handle not complete. One pan lid and handle had loose fixing screws. Kitchen taps very stiff Hardly any washing up liquid. Not much food storage space. Why 9 wine glasses(some dirty)? Tourist info! 2012 bus timetable !!!

We liked the serenity of the location - a separate holiday compound adjacent to a dairy farm (very quiet), with an adjoining paddock where about 6 alpacas would give you the once-over while you were outside having your morning coffee, admiring the view over to Whitby Abbey. We also liked the absolute delight of being in a real farmhouse cottage, with all mod cons, a top-of-the-line bed in a massive bedroom, and everything you needed in the kitchen. Finally, we liked the proximity to the stunning scenery and the towns and villages of North Yorkshire, well within an hours drive of High Normanby: Robin Hood's Bay; Saltburn-by-the-Sea; Guisborough; Hutton-le-Hole; Thornton-le-Dale; Rievaulx Abbey; and of course Whitby. We had an absolutely wonderful relaxing week, and sincerest thanks to the owners.

Robin Hood's Bay 2 miles. A charming stone-built barn conversion, opposite a working dairy farm, in the small rural farming village of High Normanby, close to pretty Fylingthorpe and just 2 miles from Robin Hood's Bay.

Cosily furnished throughout, the property has an appealing garden to the front with impressive views across open farmland to Whitby Abbey.

Well situated for enjoying all that the National Park has to offer and perfect for exploring the wonderful Yorkshire Coast.

The owners live in the adjoining property and personally welcome visitors.
