“It is easy to see why this cottage scores highly on all its reviews!”

I was greeted by Dan on arrival and had a comprehensive tour of the cottage and instructions on the use of the cooker and shower. The cottage was immaculate and the welcome pack of tea/coffee/milk/cold bottled water and fruit bowl were much appreciated. The garden was a lovely spot to sit and listen to the birds and watch the horses and rabbits in the paddock behind. I was also lucky to enjoy the company of the 2 resident felines Bob and Dave whose behaviour was impeccable! Having a private ...

I was greeted by Dan on arrival and had a comprehensive tour of the cottage and instructions on the use of the cooker and shower. The cottage was immaculate and the welcome pack of tea/coffee/milk/cold bottled water and fruit bowl were much appreciated. The garden was a lovely spot to sit and listen to the birds and watch the horses and rabbits in the paddock behind. I was also lucky to enjoy the company of the 2 resident felines Bob and Dave whose behaviour was impeccable! Having a private courtyard enabled me to have breakfast outdoors without disturbing the other cottage. The location next to a thatched cottage and delicious fish and chips shop was a bonus! It is easy to get to anywhere on the east coast from here or inland to other Yorkshire towns. Even though I was a solo traveller, I felt safe and appreciated. An extremely pleasant experience and I hope I can come back again soon. 10 out of 10 all round.

“We had a lovely stay at Cow Byre cottage.”

Dan was really helpful and the cottage was beautifully clean and welcoming. In terms of location, there is a place to sit outside, and a shared paddock which our dog was grateful of! The chip shop next door is only open on Fridays and Saturdays, and the nearest pub doesn't really serve food. However, we had nice meals and drinks at the Coachman up the road, which is only a five minute walk. We had some lovely works around snainton - there is a circular path detailed in the welcome book which we did and enjoyed. It’s also a great spot to explore - Robin Hood’s bay was our favourite and very dog friendly all year round. The cottage is just off a main road, so a word of warning to dog owners- keep them on a lead on the way to and from the paddock! Our dog, who is normally very well behaved, decided to take himself up the driveway and ended up on the main road - the lady from the antique shop opposite was very helpful in retrieving him! Overall a lovely stay with a brilliant host.

“LOVELY COTTAGE WITH EVERYTHING YOU COULD WANT JUST OFF THE HIGH STREET BUT VERY QUIET.”

THERE IS A VERY LARGE PADDOCK WHICH IS DOG FRIENDLY OUR DOG LOVED RUNNING AROUND IN IT AND THE VIEW OVER THE BACK IS REALLY NICE WITH HORSES IN THEM. WE SPOKE TO DAN WHO WAS VERY FRIENDLY AND HELPFUL TELLING US PLACES TO VISIT. IT IS NEAR TO SCARBROUGH ABOUT 15 MINS DRIVE AND ALSO PICKERING FOR THE YORKSHIRE MOORS RAILWAY. WE HAD A REALLY LOVELY STAY AND WOULD RETURN AT A LATER DATE

“We have just spent a lovely 3 night break at Cow Byre Cottage.”

Dan the host is so friendly and approachable but without being invasive. The cottage is immaculate and the complimentary extras that are provided are a really nice touch and much appreciated. The shared paddock is an extra bonus especially for woofs and the view is perfect with seats overlooking beautiful countryside. Both pubs in village friendly but would recommend coachman inn for food and the peacock for drinks and friendly local banter. Perfect for exploring coast and dalby forest all literally within 30 min drive.

“The property was beautifully furnished and was lovely and clean.”

The enclosed paddock was lovely for our dog, however the private patio could also benefit from being enclosed as we couldn't sit without having the dog on the lead as she wondered onto the shared driveway which is not ideal. Also could do with a hairdryer.

Morning guys. Thank you so much for your feedback and constructive comments. I’m so glad that you liked the cottage and enjoyed your stay. I agree wholeheartedly that the cottage’s could both benefit from having bordered fencing around them. Unfortunately the council planning stipulated that there was to be no fencing/separation divide and as such even what I have done is pushing the boundaries of what I was allowed to do. I am looking, within the next few years, to apply for planning permission to create separate gardens for each of the 3 properties on the plot but this obviously is a major expense and as such will take a considerable amount of work and primarily money. (Estimated costs of £25-35,000). The overall aim is to demolish the workshop and, with that area cleared, create a shared parking area for up to 7 vehicles. All of this (we hope) in the end create a totally separate parking area and leave all properties feeling totally private from each other. This is our goal. But it obviously has a lot of hurdles to overcome first. As for a hair dryer…well if you had asked I would have lent you the spare. I don’t put them in the cottage’s as most women I know prefer to bring and use their own. But I have one just in case. Take care and all the very best to you both. “We were met by Daniel the owner who could not have been more hospitable.”

Nothing was too much trouble. Cow Byre Cottage was exceptionally clean and comfortable. The kitchen was very well equipped and there were plenty of fluffy towels in the bathroom. We were very lucky and had a week of beautiful weather. We would definitely recommend the property and would return ourselves if we were in the area again. “What a gem this is .”

The cottage was spotlessly clean on arrival. It was home from home and we loved it. Daniel left us a welcome pack that was much appreciated. The paddock area was great for letting your dog run freely and a long leads available if you'd prefer. Nearest chip shop 1 minute walk nearest pub 3 minute walk.i would recommend doing a supermarket shop before arrival because the nearest shop for bread milk etc is a spar which is 20 minute drive towards Scarborough. The nearest pub for food is a 5 minute drive also dog friendly. All in all very peaceful and cosy location. Cannot wait to return.

Lovely cottage everything you need but I don’t think it’s dog friendly couldn’t let dog out on is own I had to make sure the gate was shut to a busy road also didn’t like the patio area outside basically it’s in the car park and not very private when other guests are going back and forth doing washing

Hi Andrea, Sorry I missed you when you came to stay (but as I communicated to you before your arrival - I too was going away with my wife for our annual holiday at the same time as your visit). I’m really sorry to hear and judging from your feedback that you have appeared not to enjoy your stay. We try to make our guests feel as welcomed as possible and strive to make the cottage as comfortable, clean and homely as we can. As for letting your dog run free…well there is an enclosed paddock for that as many previous guests will attest to (However we do not like guests to allow their dogs free roaming of the gravelled parking area because there are often other animals at the property as well as my cats). Supervising animals in unusual places is, in my view, the obligation of the owner. Especially un-neutered animals as I’m led to believe your dog was! The patio area for Cow Byre Cottage is screened by 5 large fern trees which keep it private enough for most guests and the parking space closest to the patio is designated for Cow Byre Cottage’s use only. It is fair to say that access to the shared wash house is made by walking across Cow Byre Cottage’s patio. But the wash house is designated only for use by Cow Byre Cottage and Upstairs Downstairs Cottage so i can’t imagine that there was enough footfall to impose on your privacy too much. That all said I do sincerely apologise for you not enjoying your stay. I wish that I could have done more to improve your stay. But alas it is what it is and I feel that the pictures, descriptions and previous guests comments give any potential future guests a clear understanding of the place they are coming to. “First impressions Amazing spotlessly clean felt very homely.”

Full of character and charm this 1750 conversion was perfect for myself and husband just into our seventies and our fur boy. Parking straight outside and a bonus of a paddock for our dog to run free. Beautiful outside patio and furniture. An excellent welcome folder bed super comfy as was seating in lounge, furnished to a very high standard but in keeping with the charm. Towels in abundance all thick and fluffy and the use of a washing machine just offset from the patio area if you should need it. Dan met us on arrival and I would definitely consider him a Super Host has so much knowledge and has time to talk to you if you want to very passionate about his cottages and how he restored them. There was also an addition of a lovely welcome pack cookies bowl of fruit red wine tea coffee sugar and bottled water and milk in fridge. Local to visit the coast of Whitby Scarborough Filey and picturesque villages of Thornton le Dale Malton Helmsley and Pickering There are not enough stars in the sky to rate this cottage and Dan himself , we truly loved it and are definitely going to be regular visitors.

“This one of the best cottages we have rented.”

The cottage has everything you might need and then some more. All the equipment is new and works. There are more consumables (soap, cloths, milk, coffee, tea, sugar etc) than normal with a complimentary bottle of wine. The heating is generous and easy to operate. The grounds have a large expanse of grass with a sitting area with an extensive view to the south. There is also an intimate patio to sit out adjacent to the cottage. There is a fully equipped laundry and an extensive drying green as part of the grounds. The owner lives on site and is at hand to sort any problems. He is friendly and helpful. The property is well maintained and everything is in good condition. Even the weather was fantastic with sunshine from morning to dusk. There is parking adjacent to the cottage with room to turn around before leaving the site

“We enjoyed a short stay at Cow Byre Cottage.”

It was warm, had everything we needed and was spotlessly clean. Dan the host was very friendly and left a generous welcome pack. The Coachman is a 10 minute walk and serves food, the Peacock is a 2 minute walk does not do food. Both dog friendly and very welcoming. The fish and chip shop in the village is open Friday and Saturday only. A great place to stay for visiting North Yorkshire and NE coast.

“We’ve just returned from a lovely stay at Cow Byre cottage.”

Great location, really handy for the coast and some lovely walks. The cottage itself was spotless, really well equipped and Dan was super friendly and very helpful. The welcome pack was very generous and we enjoyed some fruit for breakfast every day. The communal paddock was so useful to let our spaniel enjoy a walk round in the morning, and of course a late night wee! Although it’s very securely gated, Dan has even included a long line attached to the fence to keep any wanderers safe! We enjoyed 2 pleasant evenings in the Peacock pub just round the corner too, where we and our pup were made very welcome by the lovely locals.

“Cottage was very nice and was lovely and clean.”

Everything was there to ensure a nice stay. Sheets and towels were really spotless. The host was especially nice and helpful. The only down side for us was that it appeared more remote on the pictures but actually was in the middle of the village. As I said it was a lovely cottage and you could travel to many places using it as a base.

Hi Jill. Thank you for your kind review. I’m sorry you forgot to bring your hairdryer. I don’t provide hairdryers in the cottage because of two reasons. 1, it’s just one more electrical item to keep checking and replacing. I’m a busy man and I have to try and keep everything as easy as possible for me to manage and maintain. 2, most people prefer their own hairdryer and pack it to bring with them. But if, like you, someone has forgotten to pack their hairdryer then all they have to do is pop over to my workshop and ask. I have a pool hairdryer that I’m happy to lend out to guests. In fact if guests need anything, have questions etc then all they have to do is pop over to the workshop and ask. If I can help I will. I want everyone to enjoy their stay here in Snainton. Are only issue was court yard gate always open to busy street so our dog couldn't go out unaccompanied .Dan the host very helpful and welcoming, TV freesat is a little complicated and could be simplified to on hand set. The place is really cosy and had everything we needed for our visit, even greeted with wine and chocolates to celebrate New Year. The cottage was ideally situated for our walks around Thornton Le Dale and Dalby Forrest. The local pub down the lane (Coachman Inn) had great food and a lovely atmosphere so would also recommend eating out. If only the weather had been much better to make it a perfect break. Loved the large screen TV & Netflix. Only downside would be if you wanted to sit out in the area next to the cottage & your dog was a runner, as it's not fenced in. But clever idea with the door, where you can have it open with a small, medium gap or totally open it. There is also a paddock that is gated with seats etc Lovely touch with the milk, wine & fruit

The place was spotless clean, nicely decorated, lots of small lovely details. Great shower, kitchen fully equipped including tea, coffee, sugar, salt, pepper, a bowl of fresh fruit and a nice bottle of wine. Having a fully enclosed paddock nearby meant that exercising my dog and taking her for toilet outings was easy. Dan the owner was always around, very helpful and flexible. It was everything we needed for a 4 days break. The village was quiet and well located to drive either to the coastal towns or to York. I would definitely recommend this cottage and it will stay on my shortlist of nice places to return!

Dan, the owner had gone the second mile to make me feel welcome in the provision of milk, tea and coffee as well as a few treats for my dog. The cottage is beautifully furnished and so comfortable. Coming back to it after a day's walk was like coming home. The village of Snainton is lovely with local amenities close to hand [the village store and fish and chip shop was literally round the corner!]. There is so much to do and so many lovely walks around the area that I was spoilt for choice. I relaxed and had a wonderful time. I shall definitely return to stay at Cow Byre Cottage. Dan, the owner, was very friendly and welcoming, and the bottle of wine left for us was a very nice touch. The trip was a very late booking (booked on the afternoon we travelled!) but Dan was very accommodating with this. We would recommend this cottage and the area. There are plenty of walks from the property and surrounding area with woodland walks (including Dalby forest a short drive away). Would recommend Malton & Pickering for café/lunch/dinner especially if you have a dog as there are plenty of dog friendly places there. Thanks again for a nice stay!

Scarborough 10 miles; Pickering 8 miles; York 31 miles.

The lovely, country village of Snainton is situated at the foot of the North York Moors and is an ideal location from which to explore the popular coastal resorts of Scarborough, Whitby and Filey. Snainton boasts two pubs serving food, a fabulous riding centre catering for all ages and abilities, and an excellent children’s playground. A driving range with par 3, 9 hole golf course is close by and many walks, cycle rides and country drives can be found in the vicinity. Experience Scampston Walled Garden with its renowned restaurant, enjoy a day’s fishing at Wykeham, 4 miles away, or visit Dalby Forest with its good walking, mountain biking and “Go Ape” walks for the more adventurous! Pickering, with its famous steam railway, castle and Beck Isle Museum, and the historic city of York are both within easy driving distance.
