We loved this cottage, ideally situated in Stillington village.

A two-minute walk to either of the two pubs, both of which were friendly to us all, including our dog Molly. The cottage was very well provisioned with every utensil you could need. The internet service was a bit patchy to start with, but our hosts, Lara and Ed, were straight on it and got it fixed super quick. We experienced a break in our water supply due to Yorkshire Water turning it off. Not our host's fault, but again they were on it, giving all the info we needed and even offering to bring us bottled water, excellent support from them. There are plenty of walks within the local area, again our hosts provided all the info, maps and details. The area is serviced by a Community Store, in which supplies are limited but they do have the essentials. We ate food in the Bay Tree, it was excellent, and the staff and locals were very friendly, good beers too! Definitely, we would recommend this cottage as a great place to be. Spotlessly clean, well equipped cottage, tucked away from the main road.

Everything we needed was in there, very quaint village with good food in the pubs and very friendly locals.

Our third stay at the Old Forge and we were not disappointed!

It's a cosy haven from which to explore lovely Yorkshire. Top quality accommodation with everything you expect for a comfortable break. Highly recommended.

This is our 7th stay. We love the area great for walks and the village is excellent..

This is the best property Polly (my dog) and I have stayed in since starting our Sykes journey.

It was spotless, comfortable, was well equipped and had a fabulous wee garden. It was a very good experience for us and the village was full of very friendly people. I would definitely stay here again if visiting North Yorkshire. Polly’s view of the house

Small but comfortable cottage, lovely and clean and very well-equipped.

Good quality bedding - lovely electric blanket! Very quiet, with secure patio area for our dog, Murphy - not overlooked. In pretty village with two pubs, Indian restaurant and shop/post office within easy walking distance. Only tried The Bay Tree pub but would highly recommend - very friendly and welcoming, especially the young barman, who treated us like old friends on our second visit and provided water and treats for Murphy. Superb food (his brother is a chef there, who makes the most delicious pastry). Nice walks straight from cottage. We hope to return to both the cottage and pub in the future!

Delightful in every way.

Immaculately spick and span. Some very thoughtful luxuries on the side. We made a few trivial recommendations in a useful little notebook. With a moorland view this cottage would be little short of heaven. Out of gratitude, I left a Dale's book from my own library.

We have just had such a delightful stay at The Old Forge cottage in Stillington.

The cottage is very welcoming being clean and well equipped. It felt particularly cosy on our arrival as the heating was already on. It is a ideal base to explore the surrounding areas. The nearly Bay Tree pub is lovely and the people in the village are so friendly. We could easily have stayed longer!

There were some inconsistencies in the directions to this cottage which we had to clarify with the owner, but aside from that, this cottage is in a great location, is nicely decorated and equipped and very comfortable despite being small.

The furniture and furnishings were comfortable and we slept well here plus there’s a private outdoor area, lovely in the sun. The village has a great small shop, two pubs and an excellent Indian restaurant. Location wise, it’s close to great walks, historic homes, country parks and the coast. Only minor criticisms are the TV remote some buttons not working at all and the barn door to the en-suite bathroom which is very noisy at night. To answer previous criticism the kitchen tap no longer drips and the sofa has been replaced. A great village stay.

The Forge was nice, the furniture in the living area was rather dated and uncomfortable - could do with being updated , the bed was super comfy and the cottage was well stocked.

Also it would be nice to have a set of towels to include bath towels and some spare batteries for the TV remote as you had to be really close to change the channel very annoying. I would have liked a radio in the living area ( but my preference only ) . We had a nice comfortable stay and enjoyed our time there.

The cottage was clean and tidy.

However the cold water tap in the kitchen dripped constantly, the settee and armchair were not comfortable, and we could not get the towel radiator in the bathroom to work

However, the cold water tap was dripping to stop it dripping i had to turn the tap that hard my wife could not turn it back on. We reported it however nothing was done while we were there. When sitting on the chair and settee they were not comfortable. We have used this cottage before and have noticed a change in the standards..

I had a lovely short stay at the Old Forge.

Although small, the cottage was quiet, clean and offers all you need for a short break and I would definitely return.

Ideal for visiting York, Whitby and Thirsk..which we did! Secure courtyard for our dog, which we really appreciated. We’ll be back I’m sure.

Great place to stay and a very good location for exploring North Yorkshire.

LOVELY LITTLE COTTAGE IN A VERY QUIET VILLAGE AND GREAT BASE TO EXPOLE NORTH YORKSHIRE.

A comfortable cottage very well positioned in the village and close to amenities including two excellent pubs and restaurant.

The cottage was in a small village which had a well stocked village store, two pubs, a fish and chip shop and an Indian take away.

It was in a good area for walkers, including walks direct from the village and a regular bus service to York. Just a short drive from some lovely villages and not far from Castle Howard and 2 National Trust properties. The cottage was warm and cosy so ideal for a Winter Break

Delightful cottage in the heart of the Yorkshire countryside.

The location is perfect for exploration as well as offering two pub / restaurants within easy walking distance of the cottage. We had our dog with us who loved the woodland walks accessible directly from the village. The cottage offers all you require for a fantastic holiday as well as a base to explore the dales and picturesque villages / towns in the area.

The Old Forge is immaculate. Tastefully decorated and in an ideal location with two lovely pubs and beautiful dog walks all on your doorstep. Fresh bed linen, towels and a welcome pack made this the perfect find for us to enjoy our wedding anniversary. We would love to stay here again and would highly recommend to others.

Nicely located in the town of Stillington with a very welcoming pub within a couple of minutes' walk, an excellent curry house and friendly locals.

The cottage is a perfect place to explore Yorkshire from; it has all you need to relax and take things easy. A small, but secure garden gives your dog some freedom without any worries. A very quiet and peaceful location. Highly recommended.

The cottage is well placed for visiting picturesque villages, towns and city of York.

There are lots of walks, country houses and gardens on its doorstep. The bed is super comfy with a great quality duvet. Towels are fluffy and the shower was perfect. The kitchen had everything we needed. I highly recommend this cottage.

What a gem in a lovely part of the world.

We were a touch nervous as it was our first holiday (not in our camper van) with our 3yr old dog and my gosh it was perfect. The yard provided a safe space for him to pootle. The property was clean, comfortable, and exactly what we needed. There are so many beautiful walks around stillington and the wider area.

Thoughtful owner, nothing too much trouble. Lots of lovely surprises on arrival. Great location, used the bus a couple times, the stop is close by. We also visited the welcoming and friendly The White Bear pub a few times. We would love to stay again. Good access, beautiful courtyard garden, safe for our dog too. Somewhere really nice to return to after a busy day out exploring the area, far and wide.

We had a lovely week at The Old Forge in early May 2021.

The weather wasn't too kind but the cottage more than made up for it. The Old Forge was beautifully presented and immaculately clean. Wonderful quiet location. Lara has thought of everything to make our stay extremely comfortable. The lovely big rattan table and chairs on the patio was an added bonus and the shower is larger than it looks on the photos which was great. We'll definitely stay again, lovely cottage and host.

The Old Forge is delightful holiday accommodation.

It is very well presented and immaculately clean. Ideal for a short stay in this beautiful area of Yorkshire. Thanks to the good weather during our visit we were able to make full use of the lovely courtyard garden. The comfortable seating creates a welcoming spot for lazy lunches and early evening drinks. We found the bed to be particularly comfortable and enjoyed good nights sleep due to the very peaceful location. The owner was extremely kind in leaving in leaving a hamper of goodies to welcome us to the Forge, even our little dog was not overlooked as she benefited from a gift of treats. We would certainly recommend the accommodation to others.

It’s such a beautiful place, romantic, cosy and has all the amenities you need. The property is stunning and so comfortable. Well worth a visit!

Exactly as seen in photos - lovely and cottage and very welcoming to return to after out travelling. Great location for exploring the area. Stillington itself is a lovely peaceful village with some lovely places to eat out. Would definitely recommend The Old Forge to anyone staying in this area.

The local chip shop was excellent value for money and the staff were friendly.

The two local pubs were dog-friendly they both allowed dogs inside and in the gardens. Both pubs provided fresh drinking water for the dog and dog biscuits. The village was beautifully clean and tidy, no litter no eye-sores of any kind. It was peaceful and relaxing in the village. We both enjoyed this holiday very much and would certainly recommend this cottage to other dog-owning people who need a quiet relaxing break.

Lovely accommodation in a great location.

The owner left us a welcome hamper which was a nice gesture a d surprise. The village pub is 5 mins walk and serves very nice food and a great local beer.

Not a thing to complain of - lovely place, friendly host.

Although "dog friendly", we thought the cottage and grounds a little too small for all but the smallest of dogs.

Cottage was warm and welcoming on arrival including an excellent welcome pack for us and the dog.

We were both blown away with everything about it , we were left a lovely hamper on arriving at the cottage by the owner Lara such a lovely touch . The cottage had everything we needed it was so peaceful & a beautiful spotless village , I really didn't want to come home . Thank you to the owners & the weather for making our holiday special xx

Quite small inside but cosy.

Big enough for 2 but I wouldn't book here longer then a few nights only because its smaller then it looks on the picture not a great lot in the village just 2 pubs. Good base for going to other places

Lovely comfortable cottage in a nice peaceful village.

Cottage had everything we needed and a pretty enclosed courtyard to sit and enjoy the sun with a delightful aroma from the lavender plants. Plenty of places to visit in the area without travelling too far. We hope to return to see more of the surrounding area as there were a few places that we didn't get chance to see.

Absolute peace and quiet location, shared only with the Bird song.

Very well equipped cottage kept spotlessly clean. Owner adds her own welcoming touches. The village is charming and provides an excellent base for sightseeing. Highly recommended.

It was so brilliant it was so lovely the owners just had everything covered.

Fruit bowl, slotted spoon for the poached egg, cling film, foil, washing up liquid, milk, bread, tea, coffee, sugar, dog bowl, dog biscuits, dog towel, biscuits for humans. Hand wash in bathroom. Cleaning stuff under the sink, yes towels. I have been to so many self catering places and there’s nothing so thank you Lara it was amazing and we will be coming back if you’ll have us Sarah

The cottage is excellent for 2 people in a very quite location.

The patio is south facing with sun from morning to night.Plenty off street walks around the village.The locals are very friendly. You are spoilt for choice with 2 pubs and fish and chip shop all 3 serve excellent food. There are hourly bus into York and the bus stop is only a few minutes walk from the cottage.We will be recommending this property to friends and family . We certainly would book this property again.

What a pretty cottage.

We arrived on a very cold day after travelling 200miles. The cottage was heated and very welcoming. We had spring flowers in both rooms and a generous basket of refreshments. We would definitely recommend this cottage and hope to return again. This is a great part of Yorkshire to explore.

The welcome pack was a nice touch especially as there was also one for our very spoilt dog Molly. Stillington is a lovely friendly place too which made us feel very welcome indeed. Would definitely recommend to anyone wanting peace and quiet within easy reach of places to visit.

We had a lovely stay at The Old Forge.

We arrived to a very cosy and welcoming cottage which had everything we needed for a short break with our dog, Summer. Lara was very helpful and contacted us soon after our arrival to check that we were happy with everything. We appreciated her nice touches like the welcome hamper and vases of spring flowers in the rooms. As we were only staying for two nights and spending our time exploring the area we treated ourselves to a fish and chip supper from Stillington Fisheries and takeaway curry from the Gulshan Tandoori, which were both only a short walk away and definitely worth a try. Stillington is a nice village and is well located for visiting lovely places like nearby Helmsley and the Yorkshire coast.

The cottage was extremely cold , heating not set right , we turned it on it took over 4 hours to warm up , apart from this it was a cute little cottage ideal for two .

nice little extra touches like electric blankets on bed to take of the chill , fluffy blanket to snuggle in really useful . could of had a few extra things in kitchen like a large pot for cooking , colder for straining , wooden spoon and measuring jug for us keen cooks . like the other little touches in kitchen , tin foil for backing very handy all though I did not use it , many times I do a roast dinner so was nice to have this option . the door was extreamly difficult to undo , this was mentioned by other guest in the comments book , so this should be addresses . we loved the very comfy bed , even though it was of a main street it was tucked away enough as not to be noisey . we love Yorkshire , this is about our fourteenth trip and would diffently return to the old forge . there was a nice welcome basket with tea bags , coffee , sugar , bread ect . milk in fridge brilliant could have a cup of tea before stocking up on provision for the week .

We stayed at the old forge in Stillington for 7 days from 1st February Lara met us as we arrived and showed us around.

The cottage is very clean and beautifully decorated. Bed was super comfortable. Shower also perfect. Definitely on our lust for return visit. The village pub the white bear. Has top notch food and good prices. Overall our experience was 9/10. Only thing stopped a 10 was no remote for DVD this makes watching box sets very tricky. But don't let it put you off. Lovely place and Lara also lovely.

Lovely, cosy cottage, with beautiful contemporary decor in a wonderfully quiet location.

A great place to chill and unwind.

Lara the owner greeted us on arrival and gave us all the info about this lovely cottage also about the area including the local pubs/post office/Indian restaurant and chip shop all within easy walking distance from the cottage.

The White bear pub is the place to go for food plus you can take your dog into the bar area. There was fresh milk in the fridge plus in a small hamper there was tea/coffee and chocolate biscuits and leaflets with info about the local area even our small dog molly had a dogs bowl with treats. This lovely cottage had everything that you have at home even heated bed blankets for the chilly evenings. We were about an hour into our 4 hour journey home when my mobile rang it was Lara we had left a bag behind which contained our iPads plus other items so Lara very kindly sent them to us via parcel post. A beautiful cottage.

Very quaint. Had everything we needed for a very relaxing holiday in the beautiful village of Stillington.

The cottage was very well equipped and the owners were only a phone call away if we needed anything.

We unfortunately lost internet connection a couple of days before the end of our stay, but after a text to inform the owner, they were straight round to apologise, even though there was nothing they could do about it. The cottage is ideally situated to explore the surrounding area. We would stay there again and would definitely recommend it.

The cottage was perfect and had everything you needed.

A welcome pack was included too. The cottage was situated in beautiful countryside and it was easy to travel to the many places of interest including York.

An absolutely fabulous cottage, friendly hosts and well situated.

Only a few points which could make it better: - an indoor long handled brush - a mop - an extra baking tray ...just little things, nothing that detracts from a wonderful stay. Lots of things to do around the area and 2 lovely pubs in the village, serving delicious food and fab ales!!! Highly recommend.

We had a lovely stay at The Old Forge.

The cottage is nicely decorated and made us feel at home. York, Castle Howard and the North Yorkshire Moors are not far to reach. Even a trip to the cost is an option.

The Old Forge is a beautiful cosy cottage nestled away off the main road of an absolutely gorgeous village.

The village has great amenities in the form of a post office and village store, two excellent pubs and an Indian restaurant/takeaway. We can particularly recommend Sunday lunch at the Bay Tree. Stillington is centrally located for all the main sightseeing attractions in particular we can recommend Helmsley Walled Garden and Castle. There are also some great walks around Stillington itself if you are taking your four legged friend. The courtyard garden at the property is fully enclosed and secure. We would definitely recommend and stay again.

The Old Forge was a lovely comfortable cottage with everything we could possibly need.

The owners made us feel very welcome and were on hand if we needed them. The only slight thing was the tv kept losing it's signal and we had to keep re-tuning it.

5 star cottage and host.

We stayed over the Easter weekend when the weather was wet and cold, but found the cottage to be snug and warm. We had everything we needed for a relaxing break and cannot speak highly enough about the lovely owner Lara. The cottage was finished to a high standard and we look forward to staying again.

We loved the old forge!

After searching for somewhere that would allow us to take both our small dogs we stumbled upon this online. The hosts were very accommodating and left tea, coffee, milk and dog biscuits in a small hamper for us which was a nice touch. The online pictures could do with an update as the furniture has been painted/changed since we booked this but that being said it was even more cost thanks to the changes! Stillington itself is lovely and picturesque and great if you have dogs thanks to the surrounding fields. Also ideally situated for trips to York. Would definitely recommend.

Well appointed cottage in an excellent location, seriously let down by heating outside our control and genuinely inadequate for this time of the year.

Problem with the door lock which should have been fixed before hand and poor television reception.

Stillington is an exceptional village.

The perception is of a very cohesive community. The area is very good for walking - my dog appeared to enjoy the holiday. The cottage is small and, without any solid barrier between the living and sleeping areas, it is difficult to keep a dog out of the bedroom. This I achieved by placing a chair in front of the curtain. The "food hamper" provided by Lara was a great start and the cottage itself has all the facilities anyone would require.

Had a brilliant relaxing holiday.

The Old Forge exceeded our expectations; comfortable, cosy and very clean. The people is Stillington are very friendly and really welcoming. We enjoyed good food at the White Bear, the local Indian restaurant and the nearby Durham Ox in Crayke. We took our dog with us and spent a lot of our time walking in the beautiful countryside. Now we are home, batteries recharged and already looking for our next stay.

Very clean and comfortable, all the facilities you need and a great base to explore the area.

Stillington is a lovely village, Bay Tree pub is a must visit, try the "Plate of Pork", delicious!! Also found fantastic fish and chips (and I am very picky when it comes to fish and chips) in Helmsley.
