“Some of the feedback may be unfair if it is we apologize, however we feel for a holiday home supplying the below items are to us essentials.”

    - No toilet Brushes - No Microwave - The council refuse bin was pretty much full when we arrived meaning we had to push ours in to make it fit (Not Nice) - No Hoover - after a few days the carpets really needed cleaning and we where unable to hoover them, we are a clean and tidy couple so this was not a nice experience for us. - There was no pan scrubbers/scourers (again this may be unfair) in all other properties rented these basics have been supplied. we didn't mind paying for them ...

- There was no pan scrubbers/scourers (again this may be unfair) in all other properties rented these basics have been supplied. we didn't mind paying for them it's the fact we had to wait until we took a trip into the village so pots and pans where left dirty etc which does not sit well with us. - The single most import reason we selected this property is because of its enclosed back garden, Privacy and security is something we cherish beyond anything else when selecting a property as we have 2 dogs one of which is 14 weeks old, so to be staying in a property which allowed us to let them out without fear of escape was a major comfort to us which was shattered on the Thursday when without notice a person (we assume the owner) entered the back garden through an access gate later in the afternoon without pre-warning us, i was out of the property at the time, so my partner panicked as she thought the property was being burgled, thankfully she had just brought the dogs inside which was good as one or both could have escaped if they had been out in the garden, this person then proceeded to dig vegetable out of planters without saying a word and left, the terrible part of this is they left this gate wide open with out telling us, thankfully my partner had the presence of mind to check the gate before letting the dogs out as this gate was located in a place which was not visible from the rear entrance door, we tried and could not get this gate to close properly meaning we had to keep the dogs in the house for the last 24 hours which as you can imagine was not great as we wanted them to have as much freedom as possible and the reason we chose that cottage in the first place.we appreciate the owner have the right to enter at any time but a text massage or knock on the door in advance would have been nice.we spent a reasonable amount on renting that property and felt some of it was wasted.

Firstly, and most importantly, thank you for choosing to stay at Black Horse Cottage we appreciate you choosing to stay with us. We recognise that Holidays are precious and for that reason we strive to provide the best possible experience for all of our guests. Our aim in setting up our business is to invite guests to experience an extension of our home and an environment that is everything you’d expect of a 17th Century Cottage in North Yorkshire. Unfortunately during the summer there are rare occasions where Jayne and I might need access to tend to external garden areas whilst we have guests in residence but strive to ensure that this is not disruptive to the tranquility that I’m sure you were looking for as part of your holiday experience. Our kitchen facilities do not include a microwave as it’s just not been feasible to do without compromising the functionality of this area. Provision of a hoover is something that we will consider and thank you for giving us your perspective on this. We hope that the majority of your stay was a comfortable and enjoyable experience and send you our best wishes for the remainder of the summer. Gary & Jayne Property Owner

About the location

SWAINBY

Osmotherley 4 miles; Stokesley 6 miles; Northallerton 8 miles.

Swainby is a village in the Hambleton district of North Yorkshire. Swainby is located at the north-western corner of the North York Moors National Park. The characteristics of the village and the surrounding area consist of traditional Yorkshire dry stone walls, hills, sheep, heather and moorland. The village is close to the ruins of Whorlton Castle. In the 19th century the housing of miners who worked the nearby hills for ironstone and jet led to an expansion of the village. Swainby contains two public houses, The Blacksmiths Arms and The Black Horse along with The Rusty Bike – a bike inspired café serving scrummy breakfast and lunches.
