“Church View is a beautiful, spacious, comfortable and well equipped apartment.”

I stayed for three nights over Christmas and was pleasantly surprised to find a Christmas tree and decorations up when I arrived. Also much appreciated was the “goody bag” containing tea, coffee, cake and biscuits and a pint of milk in the fridge. I had a lovely, peaceful stay and wouldn’t hesitate to book again or recommend to anyone looking for holiday accommodation in Whitby.

Only a couple of things could be improved (marginal)...never managed to get the TV to work other than on the various apps..maybe clearer instructions for muppets like me...and the parking ticket running out at 10am on leaving day meant having to move the car to enjoy a last bit of Whitby before wecwent home. Thanks for your feedback Martin. Occasionally the settings on the TV get changed by accident which affects ‘normal tv’ from working effectively. We hope you managed to watch some of the streaming services we provide for you instead. I will get some instructions written up just in case this does happen as it’s an easy fix when you know how. Unfortunately we’re restricted to the parking permits the council provide us but for future reference from the end of October ish to the end of March ish the leisure centre car park which is right next to the flat is free to use if you did want to hang around a little longer. “The tv guide stopped working 2 days in to our stay.”

It became nigh on impossible to watch live TV or to navigate between 3000 channels as there was 'no information'. A maintenance man attended and said he would recommend to the office that a TV engineer attend. We heard no more despite messaging the office a day after his visit. We considered this level of support to be unsatisfactory. We were thinking of the next occupants as much as ourselves.

“Great accomodation, like a home from home.”

Really good facilities and great support from local agents. Very comfortable furnishings, particularly the bed. Only suggestion is that a shaver point would be very handy as would a couple of USB outlets on a couple of the power sockets for charging phones etc. Will certainly visit again in the future.

“Beautiful, well appointed apartment.”

Lovely and clean and well maintained. There was everything you may need, especially in the kitchen. It seemed that every eventuality had been thought of. On arrival the keypad wasn't marked up and it was difficult to get the numbers in line and then actually open it. This is just for feedback though, not a complaint. The very best thing during arrival was the bag of gifts which was a lovey touch. Bowie the dog enjoyed it as well and we would definitely return.

“We couldn’t believe the size of the flat.”

It was scooter weekend when we first arrived and expected a little noise on the road outside or from surrounding holiday flats, but there wasn’t any. “Great place to stay.”

Excellent location - just a short walk into town and very close to the beach. The parking scratchcard is really handy however we couldn’t park on the road as it was too busy, so after unloading, the car was a couple of streets away. To be expected really in Whitby! Good standard of accommodation and nice shower and comfy bed. Always important! Nice soft towels too. Has everything you need, including an iron (I didn’t see it listed so took one but need not have). Nice touch was the welcome bag and some milk in the fridge. The only downside was the people above. Let’s hope they were only visiting guests too and not residents. Very inconsiderate late at night making noise … dragging things around and sounding like they’d concrete boots on! If they are residents I’d suggest the owners had a word with them in case they don’t realise how annoying they are. At the moment it’s the one thing stopping me rebooking … everything else is spot on!

“We have enjoyed our stay at Church View.”

The apartment has everything you need for your stay and is in a perfect location making walks on the beach with our pup very easy. The only issue we’ve had is that, when we came, it was raining heavily and the water was leaking through the bay window in the living room. The water was coming through and onto the carpet which resulted in the apartment smelling of damp throughout our stay. This is something that I am sure owners will address in the future. Otherwise, a very good stay.

“Fantastic stay at Church View this weekend.”

The Apartment was lovely … self contained, spacious and comfortable with attention to detail and very clean! The shower was fantastic and easy to use. Loved the goody bag, very thoughtful. We were provided with scratch cards for our stay for the parking which were easy to use (but not easy to find a parking spot! Blame the tourists not the Owner, the weather was amazing so Whitby was heaving). We loved staying at Church View and had a wonderful couple of days wandering around Whitby, especially lovely to walk along the beach at 8am almost alone in the sunshine! Cooked in one evening and ate out the other (at The Magpie Cafe). We would recommend Church View and would love to come back, many thanks!

“Churchview was a perfect spot to explore Whitby.”

Everything was literally on the doorstep. The apartment was well maintained very clean and home from home. Very thoughtful welcome gift waiting on arrival which was very much appreciated and a lovely touch. Would recommend this property 100% without hesitation. Places to visit are Robin hoods Bay ,the humble pie shop was great ,also Magpies for excellent fish and chips along with so many more attractions and stylish little shops up the cobbled streets. “The location of Church view is excellent ,very nicely decorated ,very good facilities, excellent shower ,the washing machine a welcome bonus, and comfortable bed.”

The bed linen and towels were immaculate.The welcome pack is also a very nice touch.I would have given 5 stars but on arrival the apartment had a very strong unpleasant odour, unfortunately the previous occupant very thoughtlessly and with no respect for the property had obviously allowed their pet to romp on the throw on the bed and all over the large sofa in the lounge ,the result being we couldn't sit down without our clothes collecting pet hairs.We contacted Sykes cottages office and the lady promptly arranged for the apartment to be cleaned ,the cleaning team were there within 30 minutes and very thoroughly vacuumed the sofa and carpets and sprayed deodoriser.So a big thank you to the Sykes cottages office team and the 2 young girls that re cleaned the apartment making for a very pleasant stay.

“First of all I would like to say that from the start of booking until the day before we were due to travel Yorkshire cottage holidays were excellent.”

They covered everything from travel directions, to door code for keys, to time you can enter, parking tickets and so on. Keeping in touch to ensure nothing was left out, so thank you as it was professional and extremely helpful. We had a lovely relaxing and comfortable week in Whitby at our accommodation which has everything you need in a home from home. Very clean and easily accessible. Parking scratch cards were very easy to use just follow the instructions. Not far from Whitby beach and town centre where there are lots to do and see. Lots of people have dogs however they have to be kept on a lead when out walking but you can find parts of the beach to let them have a runaround. People were welcoming and friendly. We went to robin hood's bay, Filey, Falmouth , York and Scarborough. Walked along the cinder track with the dog and it was a lovely walk. We would definitely return . Thank you for making our holiday a good one.

“The property was lovely, well stocked with everything we could want and the hamper was a great touch.”

Our only issue was that the apartment had no clean bedding or towels when we arrived which I had to contact the company about - I don’t think the flat had been cleaned or prepared for us. This was sorted when we were out but we still had no toilet roll so went out and bought some. The shower head had a leak too. This didn’t affect us too much but will need sorting. We would recommend and stay again as the flat was in such a great location and was so lovely.

The location in the west cliff area was superb, very close to the whalebone arch and beach. In the other direction it was easy to reach the main high street and shopping area. We enjoyed Whitby Abbey and it was worth the walk up the steps. The excellent WiFi , smart tv and extra channels were an added bonus. The owners have put a lot of thought into the furniture they have purchased and it shows that they have your comfort in mind. Will stay again if we return to Whitby.

“The apartment was clean apart from the washing machine which was absolutely filthy and needs to be put on a boiling wash to get rid of all the mould inside the washing machine door and seal, couldn’t use it due to the mould.”

Parking was a nightmare is Whitby, not the fault of Sykes Cottages, I know. Grateful for the parking permits though. Bedding was lovely and clean, as were the towels. I know due to Covid restrictions the “usual” hamper was not available, but a one pint carton of milk, would have been helpful. If the guide could include where the nearest shops that sell bread and milk etc , apart from having to go into Whitby town itself, would be extremely helpful. The centre blinds in the front room didn’t work properly, too high to get up and fix. Everywhere else is set up ready for use and was clean. Good location for the town and beach.

It was a nightmare for us. You either found somewhere and then never moved all week or spent hours looking,It spoilt things for us , made it very stressful! Otherwise fantastic apartment, exactly as shown, owners provde everything you need bar the food on the table haha

“Whitby is lovely - here are some pros and cons about Church View Pros; - Great location, a minute or so from West Cliff and it's beautiful beach and stunning walk to Sands End.”

Conversely 10 minutes from the heart of town (although be warned it's climb back up!) Would also recommend a walk to Arch and Abbey Micropub if gin and/or beers are your thing! - Comfortable lounge, great big comfy sofa - Good technology; wifi worked great, the smart TV was perfect for cosy evenings at home with the doggy and we enjoyed Alexa - Free parking with the scratch card Cons; - The bed whilst comfy is definitely not a king size - The bathroom is large but doesn't have anywhere to put your clothes whilst changing - The toilet roll holder was very loose, and all the pictures that were hung around the flat are crooked(?!) - There wasn't many useful essentials in the flat - ie no oil to cook with/ shower gel etc. They said they hadn't left a welcome pack because of covid (although I'm not sure why as guests would use the items and then dispose?!) but they did have blankets and cushions, salt and pepper etc so felt very inconsistent. - I found a pair of disposable gloves in the hall as we entered the flat - No rubbish bins/recycling (some bins were locked away but no instructions!?) - There is plenty of parking but you might be some way away With all that said we did enjoy our stay and the location was so good it was easy to overlook the niggles!

“The property was extremely nice and as described.”

Whitby has a parking problem which we are well used to. There were no parking permits in the property when we arrived which was a bit frustrating as we had spotted some 'rare' spaces. This took a little while to sort out partly because Sykes is a large company and telephone calls go through to a central call centre which did not understand the problem. It was a small oversight but frustrating for us. We understand the local office was closed because of Covid but it is so much easier to deal with a small local company. Sykes has also taken over a West Country company that I used to use regularly and knew all their properties. I also find Sykes website a problem because it is so vast.

Spotlessly clean, very bright and airy. The goodie bag was fantastic. Had a slight problem with the key safe (our fault) but Yorkshire Coastal Cottages rectified it immediately, nothing was too much trouble. Absolutely loved it. Perfection from start to finish. The living room had Christmas decorations up which made it soooo cozy. Looking forward to booking again for 29th Dec. Thank you so much ❤️

“My husband and I had a lovely week in 'Church View'.”

We felt very comfortable and at home in the property. It was obvious from the way everything was set up that the owners cared that their guests would have a lovely time when visiting. We found the whole flat extremely well-equipped. It was little things that we noticed that realyl made a big difference - like having enough loo roll to last a week, or having some spray cleaner under the sink (so that we could wipe up the inevitable mishaps). It was a pleasure to meet Pip, the housekeeper, just as we were leaving and she was very warm and friendly and pleased to be told about some blinds that weren't working. Two points of constructive criticism... The duvet on the bed was 13.5 tog and very hot(!!) I had quite poor sleep as a result and to have an optional alternative to such an extremely thick duvet would have been very welcome. (There is plenty of available storage in the Ottoman bed for such a thing.) Additionally, the windows were very dirty on the outside, which was a bit of a shame, considering how clean everything else was!

“Lovely, peaceful, spacious flat and so handy for the beach and town.”

Everyting we needed was in the flat to make our stay very comfortable. It was so nice to be able to walk or cycle everywhere when exploring Whitby. We had such a relaxing week.
