The property

This gorgeous cottage situated on the outskirts of the delightful village of Sleights is well situated for discovering the outstanding North York Moors National Park and nearby coastal town of Whitby.

Set over three floors, with lovely views from the top, families settle immediately into the pace of village life and appreciate the stunning scenery of this comfortable Yorkshire base.

On entering the handsome, double-fronted property, guests are welcomed by a pleasing reception hall with wooden floors and cosy sitting room with wood burning stove – the perfect place to snuggle up and unwind after a long coastal walk.

The separate dining room boasts a superb original decorative range which adds a pleasing sense of homeliness and nostalgia to mealtimes.

A light and tastefully-decorated kitchen is complemented by a pantry, complete with a very handy shower room, basin and WC.

To the first floor is a tranquil twin bedroom and impressive master bedroom, both with original cast iron fireplaces.

The valley vistas are quite breathtaking from both rooms and it is pleasing to spend time observing the changing effects of light and weather upon the landscape.

The extra-large walk-in shower (no step up) is also a delight. Another spacious double bedroom with TV and an original fireplace, armchair, and superb views is on the second floor.

There is also a small single room on this floor.

In warmer weather, the small front patio area is a real sun trap, making it a pleasurable place to sit and have a peaceful cup of tea surrounded by flowers and srubs.

On-street parking is directly opposite. The river Esk, Yorkshire’s only salmon river, runs through Sleights and between October and December salmon leap upriver to their spawning grounds.

The charming village has a very popular cafe and garden centre located on the river bank which is a two minute walk from the property.

The village also has two inns, a bakers, quality butchers and grocers.

Spend time browsing the antiques emporium, sampling fresh fish and chips or spotting steam trains as they pass through Sleights’s small station on their way to Whitby. With lovely walks nearby and Whitby, with its fine maritime heritage and sandy beach, only a five minute drive away, guests are sure to feel rejuvenated by time well spent in this gorgeous part of North Yorkshire.

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £150.
