Beautiful appartment in a perfect position for exploring Whitby.

Parking was an extra bonus. The appartment was clean, had everything we could have needed. The cleaning ladies were lovely and offered to help with our luggage. Could not recommend highly enough

We absolutely loved our stay in Mallard.

The parking was a huge bonus as parking in Whitby is not easy to find. The accommodation was beautifully designed and facilities were excellent. One little thing that I would recommend would be to have a full length mirror in the second bedroom.

We very much enjoyed our stay at mallard @ engine shed.

On arrival the cleaners were very friendly and helpful assisting with our luggage. There is no lift. Inside is spacious and clean. All the amenities you need for a comfortable stay. Lovely generous welcome basket. Large fluffy towels and comfortable beds. Short walk to the town centre. 5-10mins depending on your walking speed. Only negative for the property is that not all the trains which pass by are steam trains, some are standard diesel engines. Really enjoyed our stay at Whitby. We preferred trenchers fish and chips over magpies. Bothams tea room is a must for the Whitby lemon bun and also recommended the Viennese whirl. Truly scrumptious ice cream shop for the lemon top. Whitby abbey, Whitby brewery, Dr Crank Whitby walks, captain cook museum, Whitby museum, RNLI museum and a steam train ride to hosgmede station aka Goathland station, all a must do.

Mallard is a very comfortable, well equipped and quiet apartment within easy walking distance of town and with the added bonus of secure parking.

The wonderful showers, large, fluffy towels, quality bedding and furnishings make it feel very special and the welcome pack is a nice touch. I have stayed at The Engine Shed previously and love the architectural features and faithfulness to its history; the conversion has been beautifully done and maintained. A minor issue was dealt with very quickly by Jo - thank you. It is somewhere you say you will return to and you do!

This is our 5th stay at the Engine sheds .

The property was clean and cosy on our arrival. Allocated parking is always a bonus. If I could suggest anything it would be for new mattresses in both rooms as they aren’t as comfy anymore. Only issue with these apartments is the late night noise from the car park opposite with people racing cars and loud music from late evening to the early hours almost every night. This issue is no reflection on the properties as it is out of their control but however it does affect the quality of sleep . All that said we will be booking for our 6th stay .

A beautiful place in a great location

The Mallard at The Engine Shed was a delight to stay in and I will recommend the apartment to my friends and family.

The accommodation is stylish, immaculately clean and comfortable. Trains passing was wonderful and one evening a steam trained pulled up outside the apartment. We waved at all the passengers and they enthusiastically waved back. An idyllic holiday in wonderful Whitby. Jo, the lady who greeted us on arrival was so helpful, approachable and friendly. I highly recommended a stay here.

An amazing and unique experience.

Very convenient location with less than 5 minute walk to shops and secure parking. Spacious and well equipped, with everything you would need. Loved watching the trains pass so close by and that made the holiday. Only slight issue was noise late at night from people using the car park across the tracks as a race track on a couple of nights. Cleanliness was fantastic and everything well thought out. Highly recommended.

We booked it especially for my train fanatical son, who thought it was simply the best holiday apartment ever- he wants to move in permanently! The apartment was very clean, well appointed, with everything you could possibly need in the kitchen etc. Great size, with plenty of space in the bedrooms and main lounge/kitchen. The welcome pack was lovely. Great location with an easy walk into town, covered parking a huge bonus. 2 minor points of feedback (definitely not complaints, just things you should know) There was an issue with the shower in the main bathroom which we reported to the cleaning team as we bumped into them; and the bed pillows throughout could do with replacing as they were all past their best and very uncomfortable. But these didn't distract from a great week. I'm sure we will be back soon! Thankyou.

Great and large apartment, right in the centre of Whitby with private parking as well.

It was quite a novelty to be at the window watching a steam engine hooking up to the train just a few feet away! There were only a few trains per day, so it didn't intrude. We've never been to Whitby before, so this was really interesting. We took the open top bus round the town and up to the abbey, where there is a lovely brewery and bar. The weather was much better than we thought it would be, so we were able to walk on the Cinder track which goes to Robin Hoods bay. We stopped at High Hawkser and then returned via a couple of pubs on the trail. The town was very crowded especially on the weekend, with lots of queues for the restaurants. We still managed to get a meal at the places we spotted, just a bit later than normal.

Excellent accommodation with everything that you will need for a perfect stay.

Mallard is on the lower floor, worth noting for anyone with mobility problems

A couple of minor points.

Only three coffee pods. (This is also very common in hotels). With two people staying it means they have to fight over the third pod. Why no four? A number of staples supplied: bread, milk, tea bags, but no salt, pepper or oil. Providing these would be a welcome improvement.

The property was lovely and Jo the housekeeper was really helpful What I did not like was Sykes will never book another holiday with you Made the initial booking then never spoke to a human again as could not be allowed to speak to anyone If this is your new system then you need to change because I have booked with Sykes before and been very satisfied.

You cannot just take peoples money and then not expect to talk to them again!

The Mallard was absolutely spotlessly clean, credit to Joe and her team.

Everything about our stay in the Mallard was incredible except for the pillows, that were very thin and require replacements and the mattresses on both larger beds were sagging in the middle, possibly require turning over more often or replacements. Overall, location was great, cleanliness was impeccable and a wonderful weeks stay. Thank you

This was a great experience from start to finish.

I was provided with a number to contact incase I did need anything. The lady was so helpful throughout. We arrived at the property and we were blown away. The place itself was even nicer than the photos, (which already looked lovely!). We were greeted with a welcome package, and a lovely clean place for our Christmas stay. We had information about the town, a gorgeous view of the harbour and its a stone’s throw away from the town itself. This is the first time we have been away as a family for Christmas and it couldn’t have been any nicer. The place is spotless! It is a credit to whoever owns/runs this. A really big thank you for making our Christmas magical, we wish we could do this all over again! Jessica.

I recently had the pleasure of staying at The Mallard, Engine Shed in Whitby and I must say, it was an exceptional experience from start to finish.

Accommodation and Comfort: The Mallard is a beautiful apartment (as are the others, this was our fifth visit!). It was spotless, spacious, and incredibly comfortable. The huge bed was a dream to sleep in, ensuring we woke up refreshed and ready to explore each day. The kitchen was fully equipped, making it easy to prepare meals and the living area was cozy and inviting, perfect for relaxing. Location: The location is simply unbeatable. Situated just a short walk from Whitby’s bustling harbor and the iconic Whitby Abbey, we found it incredibly convenient to explore the town’s many attractions. The nearby shops, cafes, and restaurants offered a variety of options, and we loved being able to stroll along the picturesque streets at our leisure. Overall Experience: Our stay at The Mallard was nothing short of perfect. It offered a wonderful blend of comfort, convenience, and charm, making it an ideal base for exploring Whitby. We left again with fond memories and will return. I highly recommend The Engine Shed to anyone looking for a memorable stay in Whitby.

We had a wonderful week long stay at Mallard.

My parents stayed next door in Premier, Transit and Lady Hilda which was ideal. We were able to use Mallard as a great base for exploring Whitby, visiting the Abbey on Hallowe'en, catching the NYMR steam train and then venturing out further to York and Robin Hood's bay. Fantastic welcome, great accommodation and really really comfortable.

Lovely apartment

Very nice apartment, very well fitted out, good location, good to see the Steam Trains outside the windows daily.

All good! My only problem I had was that the EV charging points did not work in the garage area, but there are plenty at West Cliff in Whitby. Thanks

Problem with extractor in bathroom.

We stayed in the flying Scotsman accommodation two years ago and were asked before arrival how we wanted the beds did we want three single beds or 1 double and one single we were not given this option this time. Everything else is perfect.

Dad and I had a fabulous stay.

Ample room for both of us. The Mallard provided us with a very comfortable stay in great location. We could easily walk into Whitby for some exploring! We enjoyed waving at the passengers on the steam trains. The trains did not disturb our stay as they finish and start again at reasonable times, they added to our experience. Highly recommended the Mallard.

Again a great holiday in Whitby at the Engine Shed, in the Mallard apartment.

Not our first, or last visit to a great place to stay in Whitby. A well maintained apartment, luxury in a great Yorkshire seaside destination. We parked the car in the enclosed garage and went for great walks to Sandsend & the bays around Whitby, a relaxing break away. Everything you need is to hand. One hiccup, the kettle was broken, but Mari rectified straight away, great response. A1 place to stay, full marks to the Engine Shed.

This was our third visit to the engine sheds.

The Mallard was nice and spacious, and lovely and warm for our arrival. It was equipped with everything you need( apart from could do with a couple more wine glasses) . Be careful of the hot water as it is dangerously hot!. All in all we enjoyed our stay and hope to return again next year..

Superb Exceeding all our expectations, would definitely book again

What a wonderful place to stay for a holiday right in the centre of Whitby and the facilities were of a great quality.

The parking was great and Mari (one of the house keepers ) was a great help when we arrived also so easy to get to the cinder track which we walked to Robin Hoods bay 6.5 miles then the bus back £2 can’t asked for more.

A really wonderful place to stay, especially if you like trains or have young children that do.

No faults at all, property is gorgeous and had everything we needed and location couldn’t be better. Perfect for our family staycation and thank you for having us!

We had the most amazing time here, my little boy absolutely loved seeing the trains from the window.

It was very clean and comfortable. The only negative we had was that there was no welcome hamper as described and the washing machine was full of wash cloths and towels when we arrived.

Great building and definitely will be back , just a few things I noticed in the Mallard apartment skirting board needed some attention in hallway near coat rack just looks shabby and requires filling and repainting.

Bedroom one, on suite shower panel coming away and again looks shabby and needs attention.The things I mentioned will not stop me from revisiting and didn’t affect our stay but they are luxury apartments and that reflects in the price .Loved our stay location couldn’t be better .

Mallard @ Engine shed was fantastic - everything was first class, so much do I feel a bit churlish to say, the quilt in the non-en-suite bedroom was to small for the huge bed.

In no way did that detract from how wonderful mallard was.

Really lovely accommodation, really great heating, warmed us up and dried out our rain soaked clothes.

We loved being so close to the trains and such a short walk to the shops. Really quiet area at night time too (although there was often a 10:30pm train). We all felt relaxed and at home straight away. The apartment had everything we needed and great showers too.

Four ladies stayed in this property . The only downside was that we were woken up at aprox 6 am with the train

Really lovely apartment, well equipped and comfortable with the added bonus of secure parking.

Very convenient for getting into Whitby and we didn’t move the car once as we walked everywhere and visited all the main attractions. We would definitely recommend and would return. It would be helpful however to know when booking which properties are on a level with the car park as it wasn’t obvious.

An excellent apartment, spacious, well equipped and warm.

A few minutes walk from town yet away from the weekend crowds. All the fittings are of the highest standard and the whole place is well presented. The housekeeper and the owner respond immediately to any queries.

Fantastic property with private parking near the railway station in Whitby.

If you love trains you'll love this location, the steam trains pass right by your windows and were truly fantastic to see.

Onsite parking is an advantage but can be a bit of a free for all at times as parking is not allocated to your apartment and gets full. As for facilities yes it looks great as in the pictures but there are not enough pots, pans, serving dishes etc thank goodness we took our own including our slow cooker. The loo still flows like a waterfall as mentioned in another review, the dishwasher is very temperamental and there were a few other niggles. The biggest bug bare was the arrival time being 5pm, your first day is almost over with a 4-year-old who goes to bed at 7pm and the checkout time being 9am. All the beds have to be stripped, dish washer empty along with all the other demands of the check out, this may have been understandable during lock down, but we felt it was really naughty keeping it in place now especially at the price you pay to stay plus you are on holiday after all it's supposed to be a restful treat.

Obviously a well thought out new development with a unique setting in Whitby.

No problems whatsoever. The weather was brilliant as well which was an unexpected bonus.

Amazing visit ,lovely modern decor very comfortable .

great welcome pack loved the flowers and biscuits.My daughter thoroughly enjoyed her train spotting experience and I would recommend it to other people.There was a slight problem with our car as it did not fit in the garage which was ok in the outside space until another one arrived with the same problem .we had a few niggles but they were mostly fixed the same day but the toilet in the en-suite still liked to act like a waterfall at odd times even when not flushed.would definitely like to visit again possibly trying the upstairs apartments due to the stairs .

‘The Mallard’ was great accommodation, very comfortable, spacious and spotlessly clean throughout, with secure car parking in the garage.

Fantastic location too right in the centre of Whitby and Mari, our contact for the accommodation, was also very helpful and always on hand. We will be back!

The apartment was lovely , the welcome gifts were greatly appreciated.

Spacious and clean, everything worked and an instruction folder held all the instruction books. Only 5 mins to the harbour, steam trains were a positive and interesting addition. My subjective thoughts are a 5 star apartment in a 3 star resort, although better quality food and attractions are found nearby, outside of Whitby and the beds in the apartment are super firm/hard. Only one of the two EV chargers was working but we were the only EV vehicle for the week but might be an issue at peak holiday season.

Fantastic cottage within minutes of all that is going on in Whitby.

Everything you need is in the cottage and I was surprised that we hardly noticed the trains slowly ambling by our window. We will definitely be back.

Had a wonderful stay, very comfortable and so convenient for town centre.

Parking a huge bonus. A couple of negatives. The heated towel rails in the bathrooms not heating, vital with bath sheets. Need to have a shelf in the showers, so difficult to have body wash and shampoo on the floor. Need to make sure the waste and recycling bins emptied, they were all completely filled and overflow on the ground.

We really enjoyed our stay.

Mallard was ideal as a base for Whitby and the surrounding area. A five minute walk into the town and overlooking the railway and harbour. Our son is train mad so the location could not have been better with the trains running from dawn to dusk and only feet away from the window. He was in paradise. We would highly recommend it and we will certainly be looking to come back again!

Property is amazing beautifully decorated and equipped Wouldnt hesitate staying in their propertys again!

The only downside was the trains beeping their horns at 10.30 pm and 6am! We had our baby grandaughter with us and this woke her every time, the only downside for us was the boy racers who play in the car park opposite for hours at night if it was my property I would be asking the police to monitor it! Theres no chance of going to sleep most nights before midnight with them roaring around! Such a shame because the property itself was beautiful. Regards Suzanne

The apartment is absolutely perfect, so comfortable snd modern.

It had everything we needed and finishing touches were lovely, a welcome pack with provisions in, flowers on the table, even a Christmas tree. The housekeeping staff are really helpful. It is in a perfect location in centre of town and a perfect base for exploring the area. I’d definitely return.

The Mallard is a true gem of a property.

What an amazing place. So clean, excellent parking, very comfortable, such thoughtful touches left for us, warm when needed, just right for walking into Whitby and everything to hand for a home from home break. Would definitely recommend and we look froward to returning.

The accommodation was excellent just a couple of things.

.....although we were in an apartment for 4 we were 2 couples and not a family with children. The second bedroom could have done with a mirror at least and possibly a dressing table so the other lady could do her hair etc....otherwise we had everything we needed and would definitely stay again if in the area.

My wife and I with our daughter and her partner have just spent a very enjoyable week at Mallard@engine shed in Whitby.

The location is ideal, very close to town but in a quiet area, the apartment is well furnished, comfortable, and spotlessly clean, the covered parking is a real bonus in Whitby and for those that enjoy steam trains they pass right outside the window 4 times per day. MRC 11/09/2021

The accommodation is pretty spot on.

It’s is the heart of Whitby and very secure. If I was being really hard I would say the kitchen equipment needs to be improved; no tea pot, no cheese grater, no big bowls. In addition, I understand all the new normal and that extra cleaning needs to be done but having to strip the beds and get a family of 4 out by 10am was a bit of a push.

Liked the flat and a good size space.

Took a but of time to get the grips with the tech on the radiators. Loved the trains. It needs a potato peeler Appreciated the new high quality sheets - but beds not the best. Master very hard and other double lumpy.

Mallard is a lovely apartment, modern, well equipped and very comfortable.

The secure parking is a real bonus as is the proximity to the steam trains which are a great sight. It’s well positioned, everything in Whitby just a short walk away.

The key feature of this property is the central position alongside a parking space.

However, a very close second is the exceptionally high standard of the apartments fittings. To have a steam train pass yards from your bedroom window is a true experience.

We booked this last minute for my 50th birthday as all our other plans had to be cancelled.

The accommodation was amazing! There was everything we could possibly want and more! The secure parking was an added bonus too. It was so exceptional that we didn’t want to leave! It was fun to wave at all the passengers on the steam trains too! There was everything provided that we could possibly need and the welcome basket and fresh flowers were a wonderful touch. Sykes kept us up to date with everything and the service they provide is second to none. We had an amazing time and we will be booking this again!

It was good to have a parking space although someone else was always in my allocated space I did manage to park but very tight if like me you have a fairly large car.

Couldn’t get the tv to work in the bedroom but my main concern on arriving was the cutlery draw I did take a photo it wasn’t very clean so everything went straight into the dishwasher. Having said this they were all fairly minor issues and I would probably stay there again for the location.

Apartment was amazing, great facilities, bigger than expected, great location, it met all our needs.

The only downside was the floor was extremely dirty. We have a 10month old and after 15mins of being there his hands and clothes were completely filthy from him crawling around. We had to mop the kitchen/ lounge area floor almost immediately and the water was pretty disgusting. We mopped it twice, the following morning as well as it still wasn’t great. It would also be useful to know in advance what was provided in the apartment, such as cloths, washing up liquid, hand soap, dishwasher tablets etc as we took all of those and didn’t need to. It was fantastic it was all provided though!

The Mallard Engine Shed surpassed all our expectations we didn't want to come home.

Location close to all the amenities in Whitby. Didn't use the car for two days so much to do and see. The Engine sheds have been tastefully renovated with modern twist will be returning sometime in the future.

Convenient for walking into Whitby and beyond - added bonus of parking much appreciated. The only thing that was missing was no mirror at all in the second bedroom- would have been helpful for drying hair etc. When visiting Whitby next time, the Engine Shed will be my first port of call when looking for accommodation.

The apartment was to exceptional standard, clean, had all the essentials needed and more. Would recommend this apartment for anyone wanting home from home luxury. Will visit again very soon.

Perfect. The undercover parking is a bonus. The apartment itself was just perfect.. the welcome pack was a treat. Decor was good. Everything you need was there Only thing is the glass panelled heaters do make a noise when heating and cooling down... The trains did not bother us at all.... Will we stay there again ...a certain yes. Perfect location....just perfect.

Fantastic apartment, seems pathetic to find negatives.

..only two that we found. We have not previously encountered the electric radiators used throughout the development, but they do crack, creak and groan constantly...all a little annoying as I am a light sleeper who prefers a warm bedroom..and secondly we found the key safe in the entrance hall impossible to close...we had to leave the property with key inside the safe but with the door flap open. Otherwise fantastic and will not prevent us from a return visit in the future.

Great location and accommodation.

The only reason for not a top score on comfort was the hard mattress but that in fairness is more reflective of a personal preference for softer mattresses.

Amazing place to stay, from the moment you walk through the door its a wow, the welcome pack, milk in the fridge and a bunch of flowers is a welcoming touch, along with the heating on so warm to walk in from the cold.

The beds are so comfortable , a powerful shower. We stayed here for a birthday celebration with the family it was perfect along with another apartment along the corridor which was equally as nice. A bonus was the trains in front of the windows back and forth but not noisy, and only a 5 minute walk into Whitby Would certaily return

The apartment was spotlessly clean and everything was finished to a high standard. You would never know you were so close to the train tracks, the glass doors blocked out a lot of noise and even with the doors open the trains didn’t pass that often to be a problem and when they did it was nice to see them anyway. The beds are huge, some of our party thought the mattresses were too hard, possibly because they were so new, but that’s personal preference. The second bedroom could do with a mirror on the wall opposite the bed, near the plug socket as everybody had to get ready in the same room. We would certainly stay in the apartment again and would definitely recommend it.
