What guests are saying
Lovely property in an amazing location, our grandkids loved the space and feeding the ducks quickly became an obsession for the 2 small ones.
We loved our time there and would not hesitate to book again.
The accommodation is set in a beautiful part of Whitby, very quiet, scenic and peaceful.
Lots of parking and the cottage is easily accessible. Lovely walk into Whitby also the complex is lovely to sit out etc. The accommodation is up for sale hence the poor condition of the property. Fridge and freezer dirty, oven, pots and pans unkempt. However the biggest issue was a leak onto our daughter in the middle of the night from the ceiling so she had to sleep on the sofa and when the lights were switched on there was an electrical buzzing hence being unable to use that room as the bulb was full of water!!! It felt very unsafe.
Property is in a great situation with the Viaduct and river.
We noticed the for sale sign which might explain some of the issues. Firstly the charging plug to the router was broken. I managed to press it together to get it to work. Secondly there’s a historical water leak on the ceiling in the bedroom with the bunk bed smells musty not ideal for children. The book in the property says turn the dial to turn up the heating but it is a control box on the wall where if a manual was available I might have understood it. The heating was on when not required but off when it was. It was impossible to control. There didn’t appear to be a smoke alarm. The book in the property suggests there was a book to put these issues in but again couldn’t find one. The oven required a deep clean and the pans for the oven required replacement some time ago. The frying pans were good on the plus side. We enjoyed our holiday but the people responsible for the management of the property need to up their game. We walked into Whitby along the Viaduct on most days sometimes twice. The only downside is the very steep incline from the property to the Viaduct not good for my old knees. Sainsbury’s is a twenty minute walk although I didn’t do that one. We did walk to Ruswarp and down by the railway track to Whitby and then back by way of the Viaduct. My only disappointment was the NYMR wasn’t running no one’s fault but it was something I was looking forward to. I did see the commercial train every day but it’s not like steam. I would recommend to others but it really does need bringing up to standard first.
