Routh Retreat

I have stayed here before so I knew what I was getting.

It's still a good apartment, offers everything i need, though I was disappointed with the cleanliness this time. Lots of low level cobwebs, sticky worktops, dirty utensils. It's probably due for a deep clean and freshening up.

Great cottage we have stopped in multiple times .

2 points that could improve the experience 1. Clean pint glasses that you are able to drink from ,the only one is so badly stained I did not want to drink from it even after cleaning 2 . A lighter duvet option for warmer weather as the one on the main bed is to heavy for summer usage.

Perfect for a short break.

We could not fault the accommodation or facilities in any way. The location is central but relatively quiet. We ( 2 75+ seniors) neither being tech fluent only managed to find BBC1 on the the smart TV, which was not a problem as we were busy exploring Whitby. Thankyou to the owners for a well cared for and welcoming holiday home. Sheila&Janet.

Great central location.

Nice clean, quiet apartment. There was plenty of crockery / cutlery for us to use which is not always the case in some holiday rentals. The only negative was the lounge furniture which looked nice but we found the sofa and chairs uncomfortable/ hard to sit on after lots of walking in Whitby.

A delightful property.

Immaculately cared for. The location is ideal with only a short walk to the harbour. The parking was adequate and not too inconvenient. The scratch card parking permit was a great addition. The immediate area was quiet which is a bonus when you need a good night's sleep. I would recommend a stay here!

Great cottage for 3.

Very well equipped and cosy. Had everything we needed for a fab stay. Thank you so much. We didn’t want to come home. Jasper our dog had a good time too. Will be back as one of the best places we have stayed in.

A delightful apartment that suited my needs.

It was bright and cheerful, in an ideal location, handy for cliff top walks and lovely cakes and sandwiches from Bothams. Whitby always delivers and this stay was certainly in my top five.

First of all we would like to thank the lovely ladies at Yorkshire cottages who helped us to book Routh Retreat at such short notice , having been let down by another company .

We would highly recommend Routh Retreat very clean and comfortable , equipped with everything you need lovely comfortable bed . Thoroughly enjoyed our stay for our 30th wedding anniversary , Thanks again ladies you were diamonds and the team from Sykes who arranged it at such short notice they were amazing. What a lovely clean and tidy property.

Smelt lovely and had everything we needed. Would stay there again. Would also like to thank the member of staff that made the booking for us. She was incredibly knowledgable and very helpful. She is a real credit to your company.

Lovely stay good location the only thing l would have liked is a shelf in toilet for our toiletries not a criticism just a suggestion

We had a fabulous stay and the flat is ideally situated for the town and harbour front; the parking scratch cards were a necessity as parking is impossible in Whitby without them so thanks!

Only criticism is the kitchen could have been better furnished in terms of cutlery and cooking dishes as there were no large serving spoons, no casserole dish with a lid and no potato peeler either! Could do with a bread board too. Eating out is expensive and we like to cook in on some days. Also a kitchen cloth and scourer would be useful though luckily I did bring and I understand why they are not provided as they would be thrown away and bad for the environment. I would definitely recommend the flat though as it was comfortable and clean.

Perfect accommodation for what we wanted, easy access, location ideal for getting into town.

Had a problem with Wi-Fi but sorted promptly and efficiently.

Overall we had a great stay.

The place is in a great location, right by cafes and shops, and within walking distance to Whitby harbour. Facilities were all clean and tidy on arrival and everything we needed was there for us. Only slight negative was that the flat has a shared access, straight from the street, that the other residents insisted is kept unlocked. Given the flat is on the ground floor and directly opposite the main door, I felt uncomfortable with the lack of security there.

The property was clean & comfortable with a nice home from home feel.

We did a mix of eating in & out as our stay was based upon attending a wedding on the Saturday near by, but we had to buy some cleaning cloths as there wasn't any under the sink?, despite having a dishwasher we still needed to wash a few things & needed to wipe the surfaces down, also could do with a cheese grater & pint glasses but that's personal preference i guess. The heating didn't kick in on arrival & who to contact in this situation wasn't overly clear in the instructions manual, however managed to eventually contact the right person & it was dealt with that same evening. Over all an enjoyable & comfortable stay in lovely Whitby!. Thankyou

We found Routh Retreat an excellent apartment for 2 adults and their dog.

All in close proximity to the town centre, beach access, good pubs and an excellent baker. Out only issue was finding the property after Sykes Cottages provided us with an incorrect address. Otherwise, we wouldn't hesitate to recommend the property.

Lovely and clean , comfortable only a few minutes to town.

Enjoyed our stay at Routh Retreat immensely.

The location was perfect for getting to West Cliff the Harbour and the town with is great selection of shops and Bothams fabulous bakery was only 50 yards from the front door.

On arrival the advertised wifi was not working and it was not corrected until three days onto our four-night break.

Anyone using the property should find the correct information in the visitor's folder now. The email sent with directions to the property were incorrect - the email refers to Anchor Cottage and The Stowaway on Routh Walk whereas the property is called Routh Retreat on Well Close Square so we spent some time looking for the property before we found it on Well Close Square.
