Captain Jacks is a welcoming three storey home in Whitby, North Yorkshire, offering a pet friendly stay close to the beach, the River Esk and the North York Moors National Park, making it a convenient choice for families and friends seeking a coastal break with plenty to explore.
Take in the coastal air as you arrive from the train station or nearby roadside parking before heading inside to leave coats and shoes in the hallway.
Step into the bright sitting room where two sofas and an armchair invite you to unwind after days out, with natural light, plants, artwork and a mounted TV creating a homely setting.
Wander through to the kitchen to store your favourite treats in the fridge freezer, warm up the hob and let the designated cook prepare something delicious before everyone gathers at the table to enjoy it.
After dinner, challenge one another at darts or try for the high score on the arcade machine, with a ground floor cloakroom available for added convenience.
Climb the stairs to the family bathroom where you can sink into the bath after long walks in the North York Moors or rinse away the sea salt in the walk in shower, then choose between a single, a twin or two king-size bedrooms to settle down for the night.
In the morning, get acquainted with the surroundings with a short stroll to the River Esk, then make your way to Whitby Beach to feel the sand beneath your feet, enjoy the coastal views and treat yourself to ice cream.
Lace up your hiking boots and venture into the North York Moors National Park where scenic views unfold, a heritage steam train offers a memorable ride and gentle paths let you explore at your own pace.
For a step into history, visit the Captain Cook Memorial Museum where letters and sketches bring his voyages across the South Pacific to life, then climb the one hundred and ninety nine steps leading to Whitby Abbey, its gothic ruins perched high above the harbour with far reaching views of the coastline.
After a day of discoveries, return to Captain Jacks and unwind.

On arrival we found the rear garden to be much smaller than the photo depicted.
Enclosed yes but the size of a postage stamp. No welcome book and not even a pint of milk in fridge. However a supply of coffee and teabags a welcome sight. Parking at this location is a nightmare and appreciate first in best dressed but unloading children,luggage and two dogs is not easy in a tiny street full of parked cars. The property is only just ok and we were only in it 4 nights so could manage with no washing machine and only 1 bathroom. The fourth bedroom is a single and squeezed in at the top of the stairs which was obviously a bathroom and the bathroom was obviously a room in its former life. Some fixtures fitted poorly with many curtain poles wonky or not secured correctly. Ceiling rose in bedroom exposing wiring. Work under way in cupboard downstairs for maybe a loo and washing machine, perhaps we were 6 months too early for this facility. Maybe bring your own HDMI lead for extra flexibility regarding entertainment. Our children perhaps too young for the arcade game in dining room but a nice touch. The property is a short walk from the town centre and all its charm. The positive was that the beds are really comfy and bed linen and towels are a good quality. Kitchen equipment is good quality but a grater and sieve would be welcome. The air fryer is fabulous. Doggie treats and poo bags are provided. Maybe a stair gate into the kitchen or at bottom of stairs would be a good idea to keep nosey dogs downstairs and away from temptation during food prep. Overall a pleasant stay in Whitby but wouldn’t rent this property again because of its parking, only bathroom and no washing machine. If this isn’t a big deal then it’s ok and clean and comfortable.
Great location.
However, water coming through the living room ceiling meant no one could have a shower, and there were buckets permanently in the living room catching water. It was not the best stay due to this issue, although it would have been okay otherwise.
This was a really good accommodation.
The family really enjoyed their stay here. The property was very comfortable to stay in ( the table arcade games got played a lot ) and really well set up for anyone with a dog. The kitchen was well equipped with plenty of utensils. Located in a quiet area that was close to whitby harbor. I would definitely recommend this place for a holiday.
