1. The Old Forge, Sewerby

Refurbished in 2020, The Old Forge still maintains its rustic classical appearance, with a new dog-friendly beer garden ready to welcome you and your family. The menu regularly changes throughout the seasons and you can also book for special events such as Christmas parties.

Seafood is The Old Forge’s speciality with everything from traditional prawn cocktails to seared scallops – or pop in on a Sunday for a roast with all the trimmings. If you’re visiting Bridlington, you can’t miss this welcoming public house.


2. The Lion Inn, Blakey Ridge

The Lion Inn is renowned for being one of the best dog-friendly pubs in the North York Moors. Based in Kirkbymoorside, East Yorkshire, the pub is on the highest point in the North York Moors National Park – the perfect stop-off after a long hike!

Sample a range of North Yorkshire bitters from the local Black Sheep Brewery – plus Sunday roasts, vegan and vegetarian dishes.


3. The Windmill Inn, Whitby

The Windmill Inn at Whitby features a vast beer garden – perfect for your dogs to roam while the children burn off their ice cream in the play area. Look for a huge range of branded bitters, lagers and ciders – and keep your eyes open for the ever-changing local cask ales.

You’ll find an extensive menu full of hearty Yorkshire meals, and while pooch is outside, be sure to pop a few shots on the pool table or score a 180 on the dartboard. With so much to do, it’s no wonder we’ve named it one of the best dog-friendly pubs in Whitby.


4. The Hare & Hounds, Hawsker

To the southeast of Whitby you’ll find the village of Hawsker, home to The Hare & Hounds pub. Those walking the famous Cleveland Way will be glad of the rest at The Hare & Hounds – and if you still fancy taking in the Yorkshire air, you can sit outside in the beer garden.

Here you’ll find classic local produce with a little contemporary twist, from gooey desserts to old faithful beer-battered fish and chips.


5. Fylingdales Inn, Robin Hood’s Bay

Another North York Moors dog-friendly pub, the Fylingdales Inn is just a stone’s throw away from the sprawling vistas of Robin Hood’s Bay. Here you’ll find a warm and cosy atmosphere with room for you and your pooch.

Enjoy a classic Sunday roast either indoors or from the comfort of the stunning beer garden – taking in all of Yorkshire’s greenery. You can also make your way through the whole menu of Yorkshire ales, which change regularly.


6. The Grapes Inn, Slingsby

A self-confessed dog-friendly pub in North Yorkshire, The Grapes Inn can be found within easy reach of Castle Howard. Full of dog-friendly walking spots, the area is also close to Yorkshire Lavender, so it’s a great place to wind down after stretching your legs.

With a refreshingly honest Yorkshire vibe, the pub is run by proprietors Leigh and Catherine, who are ready to welcome you and your four-legged friends to their pizzeria and dining areas.


7. The Plough Inn, Scalby

Just down the road from the seaside town of Scarborough, you’ll find The Plough Inn in Scalby. The cosy snugs and charming décor offer the perfect refuge for you and your pup to curl up. Locally sourced produce includes Yorkshire leg of lamb or the catch of the day. If you’re visiting in summer, be sure to take the family outside and enjoy a pint in the beer garden.


8. The Ship Inn, Filey

The Ship Inn has made it to our list of the best dog-friendly pubs in Filey, and for good reason! Enjoy quirky décor with your four-legged friend as you take in the sights of floor-to-ceiling memorabilia.

What’s more, this one is located right in the heart of the Yorkshire Wolds Way Walk – great for enjoying a quick pint before you carry on your journey.


9. The Moors Inn, Appleton-Le-Moors

The Moors Inn in Appleton-Le-Moors has the prestigious accolade of one of our favourite pubs in North Yorkshire. Boasting a cosy bar area with a welcoming open fire, this 17th Century gem is ideal for a pit stop after a long dog walk.

Tuck into locally sourced meats and game or melt-in-the-mouth North Sea fish. Your pooch is welcome to enjoy a Yorkshire ale with you in the bar area, so bring everybody along!


10. The BellyRub, Scarborough

It may not be the largest pub in North Yorkshire, but it’s certainly one of the most charming. With a cheeky name, The BellyRub offers a relaxed, dog-friendly pub atmosphere with its own craft beer and bottle shop. Stop off or take one home for your friends and family!

Since 2015, the pub has been offering home-cooked hearty Yorkshire favourites, plus a constantly changing selection of craft beer. You can also pop in for regular events such as the Thursday night pub quiz, themed Saturday quizzings and beer tasting. And of course, your waggy-tailed friends are welcome to join in for the ride.
