“Hello,
We have just finished our lovely long bank holiday weekend as a family in South Bay Beach House.”
Whilst we had an amazing time there were some issues. Rather than leave a negative review which I don’t want to do as I know this is someone’s income, I do feel feedback is crucial. I have some free time on my hands after the weekend, so I wanted to send our group’s collective thoughts about the house. I will try to counter the more negative with the positive sides to the property. We also wanted to ensure that the cleaners didn’t think it was us who had left/done these things.

I have some free time on my hands after the weekend, so I wanted to send our group’s collective thoughts about the house. I will try to counter the more negative with the positive sides to the property. We also wanted to ensure that the cleaners didn’t think it was us who had left/done these things.
The room at the top of the house at the back with bunkbeds really smells of sick and was therefore unusable – fortunately some of our group agreed to share therefore they moved rooms.
There was a Coke bottle on a bedroom window ledge.
Dirty sock floor in ground floor bedroom
Underneath all beds and furniture and sofas and armchairs in living room. These had clearly not been swept or vacuumed for a very long time
i.e.
Hairball under beds
Three old dog treats including one ‘mackerel’ one.
Ripped cornflakes box
The majority of the surfaces in all rooms stained and sticky
Broken pool table - dangerous for young children when erected and when not
The majority of the crockery, glasses and cutlery was dirty and we had to wash them all in the dishwasher
Most of the larger oven pots needed washing before use
Flashing and noisy hallway light on 1st floor landing
Bedside light didn’t work in one room – despite putting new bulb in
Boiler wasn’t working on arrival and we had to restart it on a couple of times – it finally worked on the 2nd day
All mirrors in the house had hand prints and fingerprints
The fuse box blew twice
One very broken toilet seat in one ensuite
Recycling bin was half full when we arrived in the kitchen
Back staircase had v dirty smears on walls
This morning the dishwasher was still ‘on’ and going through a cycle when I woke at 8am – it had been put on at about 11pm
Dining room table, place mats and coasters were all really dirty with encrusted food on them.
The hard floors had not been washed before our arrival.
We had to spend about an hour cleaning all the surfaces – tables, living room, coasters.
We had to put on the dishwasher – some of the items had to be hand washed as the food was dried in too much.
Whilst we completely understand that a house of that size with regular usage must be hard to maintain, so much of the about comments were down to basic everyday/handover cleaning. Such as mopping hard floors, vacuuming including under furniture.
Checking the kitchen equipment was clean at each handover.
It did honestly look like it hadn’t been cleaned at all apart from change of bedding.
On the plus side it was a great size. The beds were comfortable and clean linen and towels.
There was lots of equipment i.e. for children which we didn’t need all of them however it was evident that it was well equipped. Equally the kitchen had plenty of glasses, crockery, cutlery and oven dishes.
Location was great and although we didn’t have any cars with us we saw there was plenty of spaces to park.
Great size dining area so we could all sit around it together as a family.
There was quite poor communication with Katrina/the person/people who manage it as I had asked in early March if we could arrive before 4pm, i.e. 3pm ish, and only received a reply on 30th April. By which time we had already had to book the train tickets. Luckily it was warm and dry enough so had we had to wait it would have been ok. We were hurrying in the morning to leave by 10am. At 10.10 someone came, unfriendly, saying he needed to go upstairs and check the beds. He then said checkout is at 10am. I had already said to him we would be out in 5 minutes and apologised for being a few minutes late. This felt unnecessarily rude and considering we left the house so much cleaner than when we found it, some politeness wouldn’t have been too much to ask. Again, I really do appreciate that people are on tight schedules to do the turnarounds but the fact that the house had barely been cleaned it felt a bit much.
Thank you
