“In general the property looks and feels tired and is in need of freshening up, paintwork/carpets.”

Upon entering the property there was an unpleasant odour. We discovered that the small under counter fridge was off and smelt rancid. We switched it back on but did not use at all due to smell and mould. The drains and under kitchen sink did not smell very good at all ,the downstairs toilet was smelly too. There were also dead and live insects in the light fitting in the toilet. Kitchen table and coffee table very sticky. Placemats and coasters stuck to them. There was a lack of “basics” ...

There was a lack of “basics” which are usually provided in our experience. ie, some dishwasher tablets, dish cloth. Had to clean the bath before using , the non slip bath mat was dirty also and so was removed from bath had to use washing up liquid to clean as no cleaning products in property. Bedside cupboards and other surfaces were dusty. Bedding on main bed old and very discoloured and clearly wrong size for bed and duvet. Pillows lumpy. Not sure why the gas boiler was in a locked cupboard seems a little over the top. No contact number or communication from owner. Wanted to use vacuumed to hoover up dead spiders and webs in dining area but could not use as smelt disgusting. Iron and ironing board need replacing. Iron plate had a black coating and the wire worn and twisted. Ironing board threadbare. We had so many flies in property and were unable to have French doors open. Possibly to do with the communal refuse areas. Had to buy fly spray. Lack of parking in close proximity should be highlighted it was not an issue for us but maybe fir lesser able bodied.

Thank you for your feedback. Unfortunately, this is the first we have heard of the issues. We encourage and require guests to contact the agency during your stay to report any issues, then we can rectify them for you. We would have endeavoured to send the cleaners back to do a re clean if the property was not up to our usual high standards. Regarding the smell, we would have appreciated this being reported so we could have solved the problem for you immediately. We have since investigated and can not find a smell in the property. There should have been an information folder left in the property and there also is a contact number on your correspondence emails for you to call YCC and Sykes, as well as the housekeeping companies phone number that was left in the property. We will take your comments on board and will look into replacing the items you mentioned such as the bedding/ pillows/ duvet, iron and ironing board, hoover. There is parking close by to the property, and all around the park. Property Owner

About the location

FILEY

Scarborough 7.7 miles; Bridlington 10.5 miles.

Filey is a traditional English seaside resort with a friendly atmosphere, offering a restful holiday, making an ideal place to stay for walkers and wildlife watchers at any time of the year. A real gem on the Yorkshire coast. A fishing town on the North East Coast, Filey has enjoyed a reputation of being a resort since Victorian times, set beside the magnificent Filey Bay, a long stretch of beautiful sand, with Filey Brigg and its shallow rockpools to the north. Filey Brigg is a low headland that protects Filey Bay and provides good bird watching and seawatching opportunities all year round. The 400 ft high Bempton Cliffs (RSPB Reserve) to the south of Filey Bay are home to over 250,000 seabirds in the summer. Gannets, kittiwakes, puffins, guillimots and razorbills all nest there. Gannets are regularly seen diving for fish in Filey Bay. The Brigg area is an ideal place to watch for common and rarer waders, seabirds and migrating warblers, finches and thrushes. As well as seabirds, seals and other marine life, such as porpoises dolphins and minke whales can be seen in the sea around the Brigg. The town itself seems almost caught in a time warp, retaining much of its character with individual shops, narrow paths and ginnels. There is a small coble landing, a slipway where local fishermen keep their boats, plus delightful beach chalets that can be hired through the summer months. The bay is edged with two promenades and there are various gardens, where brass bands play on a Sunday afternoon. This small town is family orientated, crazy golf and candy floss. Also in Filey there is the Filey Dams Nature Reserve, a wetland reserve where common and rare waders and wildfowl can be seen as well as autumn gatherings of swallows, sand martins and house martins. Also there is Parish Wood (just off Sycamore Avenue) an unexpected gem that offers a wealth of wildlife. Willow warbler, chiffchaff, blackcap and tree sparrows breed there and a wide variety of other species are regularly seen such as great spotted woodpeckers and sparrow hawks. Parish Wood also provides shelter and food for a wide range of migrant bird species such as goldcrests, pied and spotted flycatchers, warblers, finches, thrushes and woodcocks. A short drive brings you to the busier town of Scarborough where for family fun you can visit the Alpamare Waterpark, a waterpark unlike anything the UK has ever seen before, as well as plenty to explore and discover in this lovely area.
