“We needed to stay in lythe and wanted somewhere where our dog could stay too so those were limiting factors.”

Lythe cottage fitted the bill and we believe the owners wanted to be welcoming but we are unlikely to book again. The cottage felt a bit pokey and being right on the main road from Whitby to Staithes meant it was noisy particularly as the only windows which would open in the bedroom were on the road side. The kitchen was extremely narrow and when we got there we discovered guests were not welcome, which was disappointing as we wanted to have our cousins to supper - we are all middle aged and sensible and the photographs show a table with four chairs but the house welcome pack says no visitors. The sheet were nylon mix so it felt very hot at night with the window (see above) closed because of the noise. The waiter system was a little tricky and we ran out of hot although we were careful with consumption. Finally the fridge could do we a really good clean. All in all we felt it wasn't particularly good value at £150ish a night... although on the bright side the village shop was a joy and we bought lots from the lovely people there.
