“Absolute gem of a cottage!”

We are big train enthusiasts and this place couldn't have been more perfect. The place had an amazing view of the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, but the cottage itself was also really charming and a lovely place to stay. Great location and the cottage had everything we needed :) Will definitely be staying here again when visiting North Yorkshire.

“When you can imagine living in a holiday cottage, then the owners have clearly done something right!”

Fantastic location with the heritage steam train to the front and Pickering Castle to the back, plus being easily walkable into Pickering. The cottage had great attention to detail, from the coat hooks in the bedroom to the resources onsite. Toasty warm in this cold weather and easily accessible instructions about equipment. A lot of thought has gone into the cottage and the owners kindly notified us that we could access it early. Amazing lemon drizzle cake, and everything you would need for a cuppa on arrival. One of the best cottages we have ever stayed at, - Thank you!

“This was our second visit to Beck Cottage and it was as lovely this time as it was the first.”

Great location for exploring with plenty of things relatively local to keep our 6 year old son busy and of course you can't beat the sight and sound of the steam trains passing by. The cottage is kept exceptionally clean and well appointed and the welcome pack is a great touch. The owners are very accomodating too as they changed their plans for us so we could book an extra night so we could take the boy on the NYMR Light Spectacular and their communication and care is top rate. Certainly hope to come back again!

It has everything you could wish for for a comfortable and relaxing break. The location is superb - overlooking the North Yorkshire Moors Railway and only a short walk into Pickering centre. The parking arrangement works well too. As well as being a nice place, Pickering is an ideal base from which to explore north Yorkshire.

“Beautiful cottage in a fantastic location.”

Beck Cottage was pristine inside and very comfortable with lovely beds and sofas. Everything you could possibly need was included, even things you wouldn't think of such as binoculars and torches, along with some lovely welcome gifts too. Beck Cottage is directly opposite a little level crossing just before the station at Pickering and we could watch the steam trains going past from the bedroom and lounge windows. It is just a few minutes walk into Pickering itself, and Pickering Castle is just behind the cottage and you can see it from the pretty little back patio. We will certainly return to Beck Cottage, and would give it 10/10.

A short stroll into Pickering which is a lovely market town, and close to the train station which is worth going on the steam train to Whitby for the day. Would definitely stay again. “Lovely location with a good view of the level crossing just outside the NYMR station so we could watch the trains arrive & depart.”

The cottage was roomy, comfortable & very well appointed. I take it as read that the knives in any holiday cottage will be blunt but not here! Sharp, quality, Sabatier knives so my sharpener stayed packed. Comfortable beds & bed linen, a good shower & thick towels; all indicative of the thought & care the owners have put in. The parking permit was an added bonus in a town where parking is both difficult & expensive even with a Blue Badge. We plan to return next year.

“The location was great and we liked watching the trains from the lounge window.”

Lovely welcome gifts which included home made cake. The owners had left the instructions for everything by each item, e.g. by oven, by TV, practical & helpful rather than having to find instructions in a folder. I liked that a mat had been provided for straighteners/tongs to cool down on, a small touch but again practical. No issues with the car park arrangements and a thoughtful card had been left with details of what work was being done next door & when. Basically we loved the cottage and had a great week

“The cottage was as described on the website and was very spacious.”

Very comfortable and clean with great views of the railway from the front window and the sight of Pickering castle from the back door. Great location for exploring out onto the moors, going to the coast or travelling into York. No issues with parking in the car park over the road (a permit is provided for one car) and we heard no noise from the renovations next door (the owners left us a welcome pack with a card explaining what work was being done and when there may possibly be any noise which was a thoughtful touch). The kitchen was really well equipped and clean and the log burner in the lounge is highly efficient (we would suggest turning the central heating down if you intend to use the fire as the radiators are very efficient at keeping the cottage warm!!). One of the best cottages we have stayed in - highly recommended!

A pity that the ongoing renovation next door made the outdoor seating area unusable due to the dust and grime. Pickering is an ideal location to explore the north Yorkshire moors and coast by car, on foot and in some parts by the NYMR train service. There's also a wide variety of good to excellent eating places in Pickering and it's surrounding areas.

“To be honest the cottage was pretty much perfect, and there was no activity on the building works during our stay.”

The location was great and directions arrival and departure was easy. We loved the birds and the feeders, and the house really was spotless when we arrived. The massive bonus for was the NYMR, we became know the the station staff and some of the drivers. Had a fantastic time and did not want to leave, there was a couple minor improvements that could be made, but here doesn't seem fair to state them.

For example, magnifying mirrors and flexible lights to help when applying makeup, doing hair etc. The cottage is well placed to access all that Pickering and the surrounding area has to offer. We walked the town trail which we found in the cottage, it is worth doing as Pickering has some interesting history. The owners of the cottage were very pleasant and accommodating, helping us as much as they could, many thanks to them.

“Beck cottage provides very lovely and homely holiday accommodation, the owners have put a great deal of thought into providing everything you could possibly need (and more) for your stay.”

The rooms are spacious and have extremely comfortable sofas and beds and there is also a very well equipped kitchen with a dining table. There are lots of lovely touches throughout the cottage e.g fluffy towels. well placed mirrors and plenty of electrical sockets. and the owners have also provided lots of board games, and DVDs. Although the property doesn't have a garden there is a very cute outdoor seating space where you cans sit and watch the birds come down to feed from the well stocked bird feeders. The cottage is extremely well placed being only a short walk onto the high street where you can find lovely cafes, pubs serving food, independent food and gift shops, takeaways and a lovely Italian restaurant (Figaros). Lidl is also not too far from the cottage if you need a supermarket. If you enjoy walking it is ideal for lovely walks straight from the door and you don't have to travel too far to access the moors and the coast. And if you enjoy trains - it is directly opposite the NY Moors Steam Railway, sadly not operational during our stay (Opens April). All in all , a perfect cottage which we would definitely visit again.

“Beck Cottage was immaculate, clean and comfortable.”

Instructions had been left for just about everything which made life easier. There was a lovely welcome back including a delicious home made cake. Parking was just over the road opposite cottage and though the steam trains were off due to the current epidemic they were still running them every so often to test them out and you can watch them from the window. Pickering is a lovely town with plenty of shops, cafes, takeaways and pubs. Whitby, Scarborough and York are all just a short drive away and Flamingo land is only 20 minutes away. Overall a lovely stay at Beck Cottage and beautiful Yorkshire and will definitely return

It's an exceptionally clean, cosy cottage in a peaceful location. A welcome pack was provided and the kitchen is really well equipped. A parking space is available just across the road. Pickering town centre is a short walk away. Sadly the steam trains were not running when we were there due to Covid.

Probably one of the best we have stayed in. It was clean, warm and welcoming when we arrived. The beds were comfy and the bathroom was nice. The kitchen was well stocked with everything we needed to prepare meals. The proximity to town is great. The view of the railway was so much fun, with us constantly dashing to the window to see what was coming past. I wanted to move into this cottage permanently! I definitely recommend Beck Cottage and would happily stay here again.

The cottage is opposite the steam railway it was lovely.The cottage was so cosy not far from pickering and all the quaint shops. There was everything you needed in the cottage you could have wanted if you wanted to cook . Bed was so comfortable even a washer /dryer so I did not have to do a load of washing when we got home . The cottage was immaculate yes there was the steep stairs but it was not a problem to us . There is a tiny garden which is well planted up you can sit out there . Cannot fault this cottage at all one of the very best we have been in . Will be coming back in 2021 . A well worth hoilday in a lovely cottage . Thank you to Mr morris and family

“Since staying at Beck Cottage last year, the owners have made some changes (new carpets and decoration etc.”

) making it even better. The cottage is warm, clean and cosy. As for the view well, if you're into steam trains couldn't be better; the cottage overlooks a level crossing and you can sit comfortably on the sofa and watch the trains go by. The town shops are a simple five minute walk away, with a market on Mondays. There are two supermarkets; Co-op and Lidl. The cottage is a great base for exploring the Yorkshire Moors and is easy driving distance from Scarborough and Whitby on the coast and Sutton Bank and Castle Howard further inland.

We were opposite the steam railway which was fascinating, if you're worried about it being noisy then don't be as it hardly made any difference at all. We headed up to Scarborough and Whitby through the North Yorkshire National Park, absolutely stunning, and then headed down the coast through some picturesque villages, Saltburn was beautiful with a long beach ideal for a long walk, travelled to York one day which was full of old beautiful buildings and of course York Minster, Castle Howard is also a must see! We were lucky to have the village to walk to if we needed anything and of course some lovely country pubs! Great place, great cottage, stunning scenery what more could you want

The owners were very helpful when we had a problem with the WI FI. They arrived within the hour. With a call to the provider it was soon sorted. The cottage is very comfortable with all you require for a long or short stay. The wood burning stove adds to the comfort also there is a washing machine, dishwasher, gas cooker and microwave.

“I booked this cottage purely because it had been previously owned by my Grandmother from the late sixties to the early nineties and I have many fond memories of the cottage and Pickering itself.”

I celebrated my sixtieth birthday at the cottage. The cottage has been much improved with the addition of new double glazed windows and a wood burning stove, although even on the coldest night in December, the gas central heating provided all the warmth required. The owners have made every effort to retain and enhance the "cottagey" feel with stripped internal doors. It really had the feeling of "home from home". The cottage is perfectly placed - opposite the NYMR - underneath the Castle - and within walking distance of the shops.

The small courtyard garden over looked by one of the towers of Pickering Castle was a haven for us and the local wildlife! Wesaw several species of butterfly, a robin and a tiny toad! In fact, we felt like we could have moved in! Everything was perfect and it was so nice to find a Welcome Package waiting for us, which was very kind. It was a perfect spot for a quiet time and so close to the town for all the facilities in Pickering. We found ourselves using the local Butchers, Bakers and Grocers, as well as the Tea rooms, rather than the Pubs and restaurants. We would happily go back to Beck Cottage.
