“Just back from 3 nights stay, wow what a beautiful place.”

The detail that has gone into this property is fantastic . It’s Everything you would want for your stay away. The place is spotless , cleaned to great standards . The welcome basket for the humans and doggie is so lovely and thoughtful. Dressing gowns and slippers for all are a lovely homely gesture, this was a nice surprise as I always forget to pack mine! En-suite bathrooms in all bedrooms plus an additional toilet room is fantastic, no arguing for showers in the mornings. I have ...

“Lovely property.”

The local village of Pocklington is delightful and well equipped with a wide variety of shops and eating places. There is only one problem we found with it and that was there were not enough in the way of laundry facilities for our requirements, but for a short stay it would probably be fine.

“Paid £35 for fill up service of log fired hot tub.”

It took 4 hours and quite a bit of research. Unfortunately due to family emergency some of the family were not able to enjoy as we had to return after first night. We had expected it to be filled and heated and to be able to use it the first night but this was not the case. House was not as clean as reviews suggested (hair in shower/rubbish under sofa). Not walkable to pub - should make this clear. Also toilet roll left on day 1 not sufficient if we had all stayed the 4 nights. We think the owner let themselves in to replenish but we’re not happy they had done this.

Good evening Mr Walker, I am saddened to read your review. Firstly, we had not been asked by Sykes to fill & heat the hot tub for your arrival, however, had you called me on the number provided I would have immediately rectified this either by refund or filling the hot tub. Regarding the cleanliness, I apologise if you found anything but we have never had a poor review regarding cleanliness & are only ever complimented on it, again had you called I would have rectified this. When booking you can check the location & find out distance to local pubs etc. on the advertising it states the pub is 2.5 miles away, that may or may not be within walking distance for you but it is clearly stated. Finally, you are provided with 1 toilet roll in each bathroom to get you started, after that it is up to you as we are self catering & regarding letting ourselves in to replenish I can guarantee you this DID NOT happen. I have never let myself into a guests accommodation without their prior agreement!!! It has taken you nearly 2 weeks to write a review despite you stating how poor everything was & at no point did you make contact with me albeit my number being largely displayed in the cottage & asking you to contact me should you need anything. “From entry into accommodation we were thrilled at how spacious and clean it was.”

All the rooms suited our needs, each room being en-suite was perfect for us and great standard of workmanship throughout the building. As for the location, clise to Pocklington and York, was great for cycling, some beautiful routes and coffee stops. The owners were cordial and helpful.

(Especially the beds) It is decorated to a really high standard with a gorgeous log burner and it is catered for absolutely all your needs. A really spacious property with a lovely outdoor space and a wood fired hot tub to enjoy after a day sightseeing in York. The location is so peaceful and the owner is really friendly and professional and was so helpful for any needs we had. The perfect holiday was had there for 5 people and a dog. We look forward to returning there in the future. Loved everything about it.

If we had to comment on one thing it would be the log fired hot tub, although we got use out of it in the end it is very faffy and time consuming. Would definitely recommend to others and will hopefully return.

“Everything in Peacocks Rest has been fitted to the highest standard.”

The bedrooms have their own bathroom which was a huge advantage to us. The log burner was needed as the heating didn’t get to a high enough heat for us. Some more smaller logs were needed, but we managed with the ones we were provided with. The welcome basket along with milk and juice, was a very nice touch..thank you. Whilst the Wi-Fi was good in the first two bedrooms, it didn’t reach down to the furthest bedroom, and the smart TV didn't work either so that may need looking at? We didn’t try the hot tub as it was a log burner type, we did know this beforehand, but if choosing accommodation again I wouldn’t go for this type again because of the length of time it takes to heat and also refill the water too. Parking was fab for 3 cars, and the location to York is amazing. I would recommend this accommodation, but just take into account the hot tub situation.

Externally, it is located in a peaceful setting, yet set ideally for access to local facilities and for York. Overal, Peacocks Rest is superb.

“Beautiful property , everything you need and more.”

Lovely hamper left full of goodies we hadn’t expected. It was beautifully decorated for Christmas which was a wonderful surprise and really made the room look extra special. Super comfy beds, pillows duvet etc. Our only problem was it was quite cold despite us turning the heating up. We were absolutely useless at trying to get the log burner going and gave up in the end. We must have been doing something wrong but never having used a log burner before it was very frustrating

We were so pleased with the property and how spotlessly clean it was. 3 bedrooms all similar in size, 3 bedrooms and 3 parking spaces. The property was so well equipped, we cooked lovely meals here and even found a garlic press! The wood burner was cosy and so easy to use too. The area is quiet and about 25 min drive to York. We visited the railway museum here which is free and would recommend. Lovely cafe and I noticed you can park here all day for £10 and then a short walk into the centre. The welcome pack was a lovely touch with prosecco and other treats. We will definitely return here.

It wasn't as convenient as an electric one, but that is explained in the description - we had no complaints about it, and enjoyed having it there.

“Great property.”

We stayed with our 2 married sons, and finding accommodation with 3 double bedrooms all with en-suite is very rare. We arrange a family holiday once a year and this property has to be one of the best we have stayed in. All the bedrooms are nearly identical and good size. The middle bedroom with external doors was great for letting the dog out. It is very well situated for visiting York and within easy driving distance of many attractions/ walks/ villages etc.m We didn’t use the hot tub as it does require in person attendance with several hours to fill and heat. Would have been nice to spend an evening in but as we were out each day didn’t have the time to commit, so didn’t really miss it. (Used the logs for fire in the lounge instead.) The property is kept in a very high standard, and the welcome basket is a nice addition. Great communication from owners. (Ps for maintenance; the lights & de-mist buttons on the mirrors in the first 2 en-suites don’t work.) Might be worth you considering offering hot tub fill and heat for an additional small fee for one day of choice. We would definitely come again if wanting to visit York

“Really lovely comfortable and clean place to stay.”

We were a family of 3 generations - eldest 83yrs and youngest 9yrs old. We had a dog with us too. The beds are amazing (we all slept so well) and the bathrooms lovely. It makes so much difference when you can sleep well! It’s in a beautiful spot surrounded by lush countryside and a great location for exploring York and the surrounding areas. A highlight for us was Burnby Hall gardens which was just beautiful and only a couple of miles away. I highly recommend a visit to it. The hot tub was lovely too. The only issue was the gravel in the garden. It was really hard to walk on and our dog hated it. It would have been so much better if it was half-paved from the living room door to the middle bedroom doors where the table and chairs are. Even with flip-flops on it was a painful walk, especially for my parents. And a parasol over the outside table would have been nice as there was very little shade when the sun was out. But other than the gravel situation, it was lovely and the barn has everything you could need, everything was spotlessly clean and in great working order. We all had a lovely time there and went on a fabulous walk taking the public footpath a little was along the road (left out of the drive) and across the fields in a 3 mile loop which took us across the most wonderful countryside. The welcome pack for both us and our dog was such a lovely thoughtful touch and we very much enjoyed the goodies! Thank you!

Property is definitely worth a visit. Ideally located for a walk into Pocklington or a visit to York. 3 great sized bedrooms , modern shower rooms and a living space big enough for 6 people to chill. Has all the cooking facilities you need and a dishwasher so no time wasted on chores! The welcome hamper was fabulous and a great surprise. Wood based hot tub took time to master and heat up so a small niggle and we'd know next time. We will be back x

“This cottage is absolutely beautiful and the owners are incredibly helpful.”

The design of the cottage is very well thought out with the kitchen/dining/living area set up for real comfort for 6 adults and the bedrooms being separated from that space and all having en-suites means 3 couples can enjoy time together and still have their own separate comforts. Everything has been meticulously thought through from the really well kitted out kitchen and the layout to the beautiful decor. The garden is great (completely sealed so the dog is safe from escape!) and the hot tub is really lovely. Nice quiet setting and a short drive to Pocklington. Couldn’t recommend this higher for friends or family wanting a break. Thank you Joanne and Steve

About the location

POCKLINGTON

York 13 miles.

The pretty little market town of Pocklington nestles at the foot of the Yorkshire Wolds in the Vale of York. It is perhaps best known for Burnby Hall Gardens - 8 acres of gloriously beautiful gardens with two large lakes which are home to the National Collection of water lilies. There are several world famous attractions nearby - majestic Castle Howard, beautiful Sledmere House, and of course the historic city of York. The town boasts a leisure centre offering a wide range of sports, including swimming, a Civic Centre and the Pocklington Arts Centre, which shows various films and stages live shows throughout the year. Pocklington is also home to Madhyamaka Kadampa Meditation Centre, known worldwide for its meditation courses and retreats, plus the KP Golf Club is situated approx. 1 mile away and offers wedding and other event facilities, a stylish bar and a restaurant, as well as an 18 hole championship golf course. Just a few miles away is the village of Warter, which is where David Hockney produced his 'Bigger Trees Near Warter' painting. Nearby are various cycle ways including the North Sea Cycle Route and walkers will love either the long distance walks along the Wolds Way or one of the many more circular walks in the area for all abilities. For those who enjoy touring by car, Pocklington forms part of the Pocklington Round, a lovely scenic drive which takes in some of the area’s prettiest villages.
