“Host was lovely and very helpful with emails prior to our visit and kindly checking everything was OK on our 1st day.”

The cottage was very spacious throughout and the sofas and bedroom furniture were of good quality, the kitchen had most things you would need during your stay. The bathroom was large with a good disabled walk in shower (though a hand rail(s) should perhaps be fitted to assist disabled guests) Unfortunately there were some negatives for us personally....not complaints but, rather, observations, and if put right would make a more welcoming stay for guests. The twin room had some large awful looking stains on the carpet as you went in the room. Mattresses are outdated with just springs- either need replacing or mattress toppers adding, as they weren't good to sleep on. Not sure about the twin beds but the double bed had no mattress protector which for me is a big no-no! Front door was difficult to open and plaster coming off around it....one of us could not open the door. Outdoors in general could do with some work as not very inviting- furniture and umbrella also a bit dirty. Some painting and better finishing required in most areas...plus the cobwebs on the kitchen higher areas could do with removing as they are plentiful and look like they've been there some time. More crockery required i.e. plates etc. Whilst this looks like a long list, they are not meant as a complaint as the cottage was good on the whole, and certainly backed up by a good attentive host. Simple remedies I would say, which would have resulted in 5 stars across the board.

Thank you, Sharon for your feedback and for the constructive manner of it. Cleaner and I noted those carpet stains but were unable to ensure washing & drying before your arrival - both bedroom carpets were cleaned between your departure and the next arrivals as there was a day gap, we replaced hallway carpets with tiles earlier and plan to do the same for bedrooms as some guests with mobility difficulties find carpets problematic, we’ll have bedside rugs of course. We will start mattress replacement bedroom by bedroom now rather than at year end as planned, I don’t know why a mattress cover was missing, perhaps bundled up in the Laundry bag service in error. Cobwebs - our cleaner now has a 10’ duster pole. Crockery, we will add to the 4 place settings ensuring that guests own visitors are accommodated for. Yes, the heavy Oak doors are a problem and we’ve a carpenter coming this week to rehang with additional hinges. We have power washed the Deck since your visit and will also look to other exterior issues. Once again, thank you for your feedback and your positive response. Keith & Anji Property Owner

Potto Fields Farm Cottages

Stokesley 6.5 miles. These three delightful properties consist of two attractive brick and pantile cottages and a detached attractive lodge set in its own paddock, next to the owners’ small livery yard, within the hamlet of Potto, just over six miles from the town of Stokesley. All ground floor, the lodge is situated approx. 50 yards from the other two properties and is accessed via five steps. The two brick cottages have been sympathetically converted from former farm buildings, and provide quality accessible accommodation with modern facilities. The properties are ideally suited for those wishing to explore both the Yorkshire Dales and North York Moors National Parks. With panoramic views over rolling countryside, the two brick cottages have use of a communal walled garden with lawns and patio. The lodge has its own private lawned garden with furniture. Stokesley is a vibrant centre offering a wide range of pubs, shops, tea rooms and a regular farmers’ market. This beautiful area is ideal for walking or cycling, plus the historic market towns of Northallerton, Yarm and Thirsk (famous as the home of James Herriot) are all within 20 minutes’ drive. These three Stokesley cottages are superb bases for families at any time of year.

About the location

STOKESLEY

Great Ayton 3 miles; Saltburn-by-the–Sea 14 miles.

Stokesley is an attractive, elegant, historic market town which was mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086, with many interesting Georgian and Victorian buildings. The River Leven flows through the town and is crossed by the ancient Pack Horse Bridge. Levenside provides visitors with a peaceful riverside walk, well planted with trees, as a contrast to the bustle of the High Street. The town has a distinguished wide cobbled main street lined with Georgian and Regency buildings. It is well served with shops, banks, public houses and restaurants and the weekly Friday markets are held on the main square. Just off the market square is the Church of St Peter & St Paul which has woodwork carved by the Mouseman of Kilburn. Surrounded by the Cleveland Hills and close to the northern edge of the North York Moors, Stokesley provides an ideal base from which to explore the Yorkshire Dales, the heather clad North Yorkshire Moors and the pretty market towns of Great Ayton, Northallerton and Thirsk. The seaside spa resort of Saltburn is 30 mins drive away whilst Whitby, Runswick Bay and Robin Hoods Bay are within easy reach.

No mobility equipment is supplied and guests are advised to either bring their own self-standing equipment or arrange for loans using one of the specialist providers found on the Internet. The owner will be happy to discuss all access issues with prospective guests prior to booking.
