Barn Cottage

We’ve returned again so, I think this says enough.

The barn cottage is so cosy, clean and has everything you need, the bed is so comfortable as well. The location is great for visiting places and the little hidden gems along the way. Have a dog? Well, there is a little field for them to do their business on and have a stretch. Turn left out the drive and you can follow the road to a farmers lane for a nice little walk. In a morning you may catch the deer roaming about, like I did. The view from the accommodation is lovely. The cottage is next to a farm which has cows and sheep, you hear the odd noise now and again if you’re sat on the patio area but, otherwise silence. It is the countryside so, you can’t expect any other really. The owners Kaye and Alex are great people to talk to and very welcoming. The guest book at the cottage has positive reviews so, what are you waiting for get booking, you won’t regret it!

The cottage was clean and the bed was very comfortable.

There were 2 areas that were lacking though, the kitchen could have done with a tray and some small bowls or ramekins for nibbles, so that we could carry drinks etc outside to the seating area. Usually there is a folder with details of the nearest A&E, Doctors and vets, plus details of pubs etc instructions for appliances. This was lacking, some instructions on recycling would also have been useful.

A gem of a cottage,a lovely rural place, we didn't even hear the cow from the farm, lovely views of Whitby,we had a lovely relaxing time away, everything you needed in the cottage which was nice and clean, hope to come back soon,as we love Whitby and the surrounding area, so many places to visit and would highly recommend Magpies for fish and chips in Whitby, they even did Gluten free for me

We found the property to be perfect for our needs.

It had everything we needed to make our stay ideal. Kaye and Alex were the perfect hostes and when we had the snow storm on the Saturday and we got snowed in they checked up on us to make sure we were ok and also checked to see if the boiler was working properly. Alex even got the local farmer to clear the snow from the property so we could head home at the end of our stay. The property is only a short drive to Whitby and local shops and it had lovely night sky views which we found perfect sitting on the patio with a drink in hand.

Very clean and comfortable.

But like to have had more control of the heating ; too warm in the morning for us. But overall very enjoyable.

Such a lovely, cosy, comfortable place to stay, felt remote but only few minutes away from Whitby, and many other coastal villages.

Beautifully maintained, clean and comfortable with everything a couple could need for a stay away from home. It was so quiet, but only a few minutes drive from Whitby and the surrounding area. The hosts provided a warm welcome, but didn’t intrude on our week. We will definitely be back for another visit.

Cottage is lovely and owners were great, it would have been handy to know it was straight across from a working farm which is quite potent if your not used to this but it is in the countryside after all, property is ideal for a couple with a dog very comfortable.

Nice clean cottage in a farm location.

Car parking right outside, Maintenance generally good, but toilet seat loose and sun umbrella broken. Electric shower could do with a shelf inside for soap and shampoo. Also base very slippery. A shower mat was provided, but a couple of handles inside would make those of us a bit unsteady on our feet, feel more secure.! A good reasonably priced stay, would recommend .

Barn Cottage is delightful, beautifully situated, tucked away in a rural location but within easy reach of so many of the places.

The cottage was spotless and well appointed with free WiFi, smart TV etc. The fully enclosed dog exercise field was an unexpected bonus. The owners Kay & Alec were so friendly. Couldn't fault our week. 100% we will be going back. Thank you. Bryan & Hilary April 2025

Greeted upon arrival by Alex and taken on a tour of the cottage.

Very clean, cosy and warm, the bed is sooooo comfortable. Left to our own devices but, Alex said any problems just go to their house which is on the grounds. Opposite is a working farm but that doesn’t cause any issues at all. An exercise area is on site for your dogs to have a stretch. Such a quiet location away from the hustle and bustle of life. Ease of location to visiting different areas. York was about an hours drive otherwise most areas about 15 - 40 minutes roughly. Places we managed were Robin Hoods Bay, Whitby, Scarborough, Sandsend, Staithes and York. Great places to visit with such history connected, even with your dogs. The coastal trails were lovely being amongst the fresh sea air. Staithes and Robin Hoods Bay have steep hills, wouldn’t recommend if in a wheelchair unfortunately. Overall, the week spent at this location was just what we needed and will definitely return.

Cottage was in a fab location, quiet but in easy reach for Whitby/Robin hoods bay and surrounding area our dogs loved it , there was a small field for the dogs this was enclosed and views were beautiful would highly recommend , cottage was very comfy with everything you needed

Our 2nd time at Abbey View, this time in the Barn.

Everything you could need for a weeks break. Lovely festive tree and lights in the yards making it very Christmassy. Special thanks to Alex and Kay for their extra duties for us in the Power Cut due to storm Darrah.

Beutiful cottage in idyllic surroundings.

Alex and Kay are lovely hosts and we had the distinct feeling nothing was too much trouble. The loss of one point for recommendation is purely that for a self catering cottage the fridge is very small; we fully accept that there is no space for a larger fridge but possibly making this clearer would be helpful, also may be a few more tea bags in with the coffee/ sugar box ? These were the one thing we had forgotten, so the two that were in the box didn't last long. There were a couple of areas which had been missed with the duster such as the bedside lamps and under the radiator in the lounge area, we know trying to keep ahead of dust in the country is a never ending job, but lamps and also top of the fire had unfortunately simply been missed but overall cottage was spotless. Kitchen was well stocked with equipment which again was really clean. Was there anything that has put us off going back? NO! We weren't sure to start with, but within 24 hours, we were looking at dates to return and are continuing to do so. Thank you Kay and Alex for a lovely relaxing stay.

Lovely few days at Barn Cottage despite the poor weather!

The location is perfect down a country lane next to a farm, but very well placed for the all coastal destinations and so peaceful. The property is very spacious and well equipped and the secure dog field is very handy! Would definitely visit again.

What a beautiful part of the world, the Barn is so private ideal place to get away from the hustle and bustle of life.

The cottage provided everything we could ask for and the location was perfect.

The owners were very friendly and welcoming which all added up to an ideal week away. It was an absolute treat and i would recommend it to anyone.

Nice holiday let in a great location.

Just a few little things stop this being higher rated or us returning. The outside seating area is next to the bungalow accessed by wooden steps from the courtyard rather than directly from the bungalow. The electric shower water pressure is very low, even on its highest setting. The bed springs are annoyingly loud and you roll into the dip in the middle of the soft mattress. We could hear every word of the holidaying neighbours conversation next door through the wall night. This is the first letting we have been to with no washing machine (always handy for washing dog/beach towels, swim stuff etc) But we still enjoyed our stay, as we love the area.

The property and the welcome we received was excellent the information we were given about places close by was fantastic would definitely be back

Would highly recommend if you want to visit Robin Hoods bay / Whitby / Sandsend and the moors. After a day of exploring a great place to chill and relax.

This was our third stay at the Barn Cottage. We would highly recommend this very cosy property. The owners, Alex and Kaye, reside on site and are there to greet arrivals and offer guidance on local attractions.

Really great cottage in a brilliant location, just a short walk into Robin Hood's Bay.

Some brilliant walking paths pretty much on the doorstep. The cottage was presented so well, cleanliness was to a very high standard. Owners were very helpful when needed. Dog field was excellent enclosed area for allowing your dog to let off steam and use the toilet

Wonderful location, friendly host, A comfortable cottage with everything we needed.

Cozy homely feel with beautiful views of Whitby and the surrounding countryside. The dog field was an added bonus (our dogs loved it and we loved the views from it) especially as there was no direct access to the enclosed patio area adjoining the cottage and the steps were a little steep for the dogs. Ample parking Can't wait to visit again

My wife and I had a lovely 3 day break in Barn cottage.

Everything you need for a relaxing break. Comfortable warm peace and quiet, oh and we were lucky to have a very bright full moon and clear sky’s and had amazing views through the skylight windows. Stunning. Only wish we’d booked a longer stay.

Perfect cottage for two and a dog in a lovely area that allows easy access by car to Whitby and the surrounding area.

Cottage was cosy and had everything we needed. I would have liked a couple of big mugs for a morning cuppa as the slimline ones just weren’t big enough for me but that’s a personal choice. A waste bin in the bathroom would have been handy but couldn’t really fault the cottage and we’d definitely book again.

We found it clean, comfortable well equipped for self catering. The dog walking field was brilliant. Beautiful views over Whitby and the surrounding countryside. Well situated to visit the best of the Yorkshire Coast. We will definitely return. Five stars for Barn Cottage.

Fantastic place to visit with our Dog, Beautiful area set near a working farm with plenty of choice of scenic walks.

Lovely hosts, and I was greeted by a very friendly cat on my arrival who helped me explore each room! An extremely comfortable bed helped me sleep well every night after days spent walking and exploring the surrounding area. I will definitely be back after such an excellent experience

Some lovely walks,just a shame weather was bad. Great base to travel out from. The accomodation was brilliant,we both said that this isn't are last visit here.

Well situated place to stay.

Struggled to find any walks from site. Disappointed not to have a freezer box in fridge as we packed up for lunch most days .No place to store food and drink.Very quiet and peaceful.Would stay here again.

Had an absolutely fantastic holiday.

The accommodation was perfect for our first holiday with our new puppy. I would highly recommend the cottage for anyone looking for an idyllic peaceful location within easy walking distance of Hawsker, and the dog friendly village pub, The Hare and Hounds. The walk to Whitby on the cinder trail, in the morning sunshine, has left us with very fond memories of this stunning location.

Beautiful comfortable bed

The cottage was excellent, much larger than expected and very comfortable.

It was spotlessly clean on arrival and lovely and warm which was very much appreciated on a November holiday. The cottage was also very well equipped and the bed was very comfy. The location was excellent, very quiet but within easy reach of Robin Hoods Bay and Whitby.

An excellent, well-equipped and surprisingly spacious cottage at the back of a camp site and farm.

Convenient for exploring the North Yorks coast. Beware the walk down to Robin Hood's Bay, it's absolutely fine on the way down, but a heck of a pull back up the hill.

What a fantastic comfy cottage,will be booking it again but for 2 weeks next time.

The owners were friendly and helpful and the dog and I had an enjoyable holiday, despite the weather.

Have been coming back to this cottage for at least ten years.

We always are greeted with a warm welcome and if we have ever had any problems it is always dealt with without any trouble.This cottage is a credit both to its owners and sykes.

Alway friendly and happy to help you. It's our 4th visit here. The 2 dogs where happy too. Our young dog is nearly 1yr old. His first holiday cottage. He was very good. We were in Barn Cottage.

The cottage is in a central position making it easy to get to all the major resorts. Boggle Hole is a must to visit if you like cake. The site was very dog friendly and dogs had their own field.We will definitely be returning to Barn cottages again.

The provided towels could be of a better quality

our cottage was really nice the only thing i didnt like was next door lounge with tv was on our bedroom which i found very noisy they were up at 6.

30 -6.45 on a morning with the tv on very loud we never had a lie in which you are supposed to have when your on holiday we came home a day early

Splendid holiday as usual in this location.

Owners were extremely friendly and helpful.Small problem with people in the next door cottage in the mornings at about 7 am was quite noisy and probably because of the plan of the buildings the noise was filtering through from their lounge to our bedroom.Other than this the holiday was fabulous and we will return.

Barn Cottage and the cottages at Abbey Farm are well run by a friendly and helpful Couple ,who never intrude but are always there if you need anything .

Lovely cottage in a great location, about a mile scenic walk into lovely Robin Hoods Bay.

Had everything we needed and was cosy and warm to come back too after days out, also comfy bed and plenty of fluffy bath towels. Would definitely return again in the future.
