April Cottage

Great and cosy cottage in an ideal location, we stayed in January when Whitby and the surrounding areas were hit with terrible snow and ice, so much so the pipe froze up on the boiler.

.. but despite the treacherous roads and conditions the housekeeper got a plumber out and it was fixed within 2 hours while we were out exploring Whitby, amazing!

April cottage was very,very cold when we arrived.

We sat in our coats. It took a while to find out how to put the heating on as it's a bit fiddly. Would be nice to walk into a warm place.The bed is very comfy but above our heads and arould us were cobwebs . The cottage is in need of a good clean although when you first go in it all looks ok. Kitchen was fine ,we didn't use the oven. We did warm to the place as the weekend went on but as we paid alot to stay we are a little disappointed !

Our only small issue was with a couple of cleaning issues (which we would have happily sorted but the Hoover had no suction whatsoever) the join on the sofa covers was pretty full of dust and crumbs and a lot of missed dust/cobwebs in the bedroom and study area. One item that would have really assisted me would have been a mirror on the dressing table in the study area. Overall very happy and would book again

Fabulous little holiday cottage.

Cosy and quirky,everything we needed,we loved it.

As I entered the cottage it was the smell I noticed at first.

Strange, not horrible, not old, not fresh and clean either. I was glad I brought with me my own plug in air fresheners. Having three windows, the downstairs is surprisingly gloomy. The blinds in the photos have gone and replaced by cheap roller blinds, the previous holes for the original blinds remain. The kitchen is kitted out with everything except a microwave, dishwasher and washing machine. The butler sink minus its plug, has a small plastic washing up bowl. The dinner plates couldn’t fit inside it, washing up became a faff. The fridge, what a disappointment. It’s only the size of my caravan fridge, except there is the bottom shelf missing on the fridge door, so the milk, orange juice and wine bottles had to go in the bottom, using much needed space. Its temperature ranged from freezing everything inside, the salad and vegetables went in the bin, to only slightly cold. The freezer box hadn’t been defrosted in some time, there was only a narrow gap between the ice build up, so nothing could be stored inside the freezer. Nice sofa, comfy, although the telly on the wall opposite could be lower to avoid neck strain. Unfortunately the rug next to the sofa has seen better days and should really go. The complementary crisps and biscuits were a nice touch. On the first floor the bedroom is exactly as you see in the photo. In an alcove there is a wooden hanging shelf for clothes. The bed. At first I thought comfy. After a couple of nights my back was in agony. Excruciating. The shower is excellent, piping hot water and a good pressure too. Despite the weather being glorious, the cottage is cold -I wished I had packed a jumper. In the manual it describes how to adjust the heating controls. This didn’t work as the digital control could not connect to the signal it required, consequently the cottage’s heating only came on as programmed for an hour in the morning and an hour late afternoon barely improving the temperature inside. There are no scratch cards at the cottage for parking. Parking is expensive for all day every day. There is a phone number guests can use for help during their stay. Who wants to faff on their holiday and wait indoors while strangers fix the problems? Everything should be tip top for every single guest booking. There is a note and a plastic bag upstairs, left for guests. “To keep our staff safe, please place all used linen and towels in the bag before your departure”. Sorry, safe from what? Vampire blood? COVID doesn’t exist either, if it did the cottage could not accommodate guests. Everyone knows this is a ruse to cut down the cost of cleaning for the owner and is insulting to the paying guests of the cottage. I was supposed to stay for a week. Due to everything described above, I returned home early, and disappointed. Now I have to see an osteopath. Would I recommend April Cottage? No.

We enjoyed our stay again.

If the cottage was ours we would change the coffee table that is situated between settee and the tv. If someone is sitting on the settee and needs to cross the room, you either have to "climb" over someone's legs or very carefully squeeze past the tv. An oblong table would be far better than the large round one. Otherwise, suits us fine and will quite likely return. Kind regards, John. W.

April Cottage is in an ideal location to explore both the West and East cliffs of Whitby.

It is ideal for couples wanting to relax and enjoy what the town has on offer. The property is very cosy and warm, too warm when cooking as there is not much ventilation downstairs. The shower is powerful and the bed is comfortable, if you prefer a softer mattress. The extra bedroom is ideal for reading and using as a dressing room. Overall, it is a lovely place to stay, and it would be nice to know some of the history of the cottage or of Cliff Street if there is anything interesting or any old photographs of the cottage.

Lovely place to stay vey nice location only a couple of things sofa not that comfortable .

Fridge door tray broken needed defrosting too , some paint work needed seeing to . Shaving mirror would be useful too , But all in all great stay would highly recommend

Excellent location.

Parking easy with permit provided. Cottage great little place, had everything we needed. Just 1 small thing please lower the TV... you can't watch TV as too high and hurts your neck. Needs to be lowered down to eye height. Otherwise great and we loved our stay and would recommend again

Lovely lay out, very well equipped and tastefully furnished to a high standard.

However the mattress was not as supportive as we would have preferred and wall mounted TV much too high for comfortable viewing. Parking voucher works well once we understood the appropriate zones (W) after the weekend we had no problem Highly recommended we would stay there again.

The TV is too high, we got stiff necks and bad backs trying to watch it.

Hooks and shelves in the bathroom are essential as there isn't anywhere to put our toiletries except on the floor. Also a Caddy in the shower to put shower gel and shampoo. There's nowhere to hang a robe. There's room for a chair in the corner, why not put one in there. A microwave would also be good. Good location but we won't be returning, much nicer accommodation in whitby.

Quality furniture etc,but tiny room, didn't need table chairs, coffee table would have given more space,, mat on floor dangerous too thin, slippy, needed microwave on breakfast bar, but 1st impressions count, walls flaking paint , marks on walls, need sorting, painting , plug not work in bathroom, stuck or hard to release, need sign on wall left side of bed , banged my head had light concussion all day, entrance light to keysafe poor, had to use my phone camera to see, 1st time dissatisfied, been staying in whitby number of yrs, never complained before, I took photos of faults, there before we arrived, shame.

i cleaned property before we left, as I like to treat peoples homes same as mine with respect .

Really lovely little cottage in a great location.

Spotlessly clean and such a good use of the small space which somehow made it feel a lot bigger than it is. It had everything we needed. The car parking was very convenient which isn’t always the case when staying so central. Despite being so central it was on a really quiet and quaint side street. A lovely place to stay. Would definitely book again.

Well-equipped & decorated to a high standard. This was our third stay and will definitely return.

Only two knives and two forks ?

?? No microwave? Cobwebs everywhere Shower door off its runners Sink plug won’t shut off Lounge rug very dirty Glass table upstairs falls apart …. which had been reported before Maybe spend some time and stay in your own property and then you would know!

We had a lovely short break in this cottage, No complaints from us.

Second visit to this well-appointed and well-equipped to a very high standard cottage and will definitely be back again.

Perfect for base for a visit to explore the Yorkshire coast or to just spend a relaxing few days enjoying Whitby.

Clean, comfortable and well equipped cottage.

Ideally positioned for exploring Whitby, 2 to 3 minutes walk from the Harbour and the wider area. This cottage gets our recommendation. Looking for an excuse to return in 2024.

A small 1 bedroom cosy cottage, that welcomed our fur babies, in the town of Whitby.

We did not have a garden, but literally just a few steps outside our door, was a wonderful seating area, with plants and flowers, and an acknowledgement of Alice in Wonderland. The view, from the seating area, looking down on us, was of the church and the ruins of the Abbey. We sat here in the evenings with a glass of wine, it was so peaceful. The town of Whitby is bustling with people and some lovely shops selling an array of gifts, crafts, antiques and clothing. The harbour is full of bars, restaurants and places to rest and relax and of course beautiful beaches I'd recommend this cottage for one or two people, (and four legged friends)who just want a simple break away from the stress of working life

Lovely stay in April cottage, very clean , loved the parkin and cookies, slightly confused at end of stay as asked to put bed linen and used towels in linen bag provided , we searched for a linen bag but could not find one, otherwise we wd highly recommend April cottage we had a lovely stay.

Beautiful little cottage in the heart of the town.

The owners should be very proud! We were worried it would be a little cramped but the use of the limited space is excellent. Lovely and clean throughout, and the information pack had everything we needed for our week's stay. Parking was another concern but it was really easy to use the visitor permits and we had no issues at all - one tip for the owners though, it may be helpful to print a small map highlighting the roads with visitor parking. Also, we had an unexpected issue with one of the radiators - the 'Maid in Whitby' lady who maintains the property was great, she had a plumber sent round in no time and the issue was sorted really quickly. We can't wait to visit Whitby again and would definitely consider booking April Cottage next time.

Great little cottage for 2 people.

The lay out was really well thought out and well proportioned. The location was excellent for both beach and town centre. The cottage was lovely and warm at all times and provided a cosy little base for both ourselves but also Chester the dog. All in all could not fault and will definitely be back! Marc and Wendy.

What a little gem Aprils cottage is, clean, comfortable and has everything you could possibly need.

It really was very charming. Comfy bedroom and amazing shower with heated flooring which was a massive plus for our winter stay. Perfectly central. Me, my partner and our dog throughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely book again. We loved it.

Fantastic, clean and well placed for everything in town.

Very up to date, yet still has a rustic charm. We loved it and will come back. We would however have liked a harder bed but that is a personal choice, and we understand that not everyone would agree.
