“Shower door coming off runners, toilet roll holder missing, and no ceiling light in the single bedroom.”

Not as shown in the listing photos in several areas, including no dishwasher and differences in furniture in the yard, living areas and bedrooms. No parking vouchers were left, and we had to go to the office to collect them. Overall, the property did not reflect what we expected from the listing.

- Brian, May 2026

The property has had a refresh with new kitchen , living room and deco. The dishwasher was removed. Would have thought an upgrade from what was advertised would have been pleasing. The light is waiting on electrician - general maintenance Property Owner

“The location of the property is good, convenient for beaches, shops, pubs and harbour.”

However, on arrival the electricity was off which meant that there was water on the floor which we cleaned up. The rest of the house was very clean and tidy. There were no parking scratchcards on arrival so we rang the helpline in the welcome pack, to be told that they should be. After a couple of call backs we were told that we could go and collect them from Yorkshire Cottages. The address in the welcome pack is incorrect and needs updating. The parking costs that we had already paid were refunded. It is worth noting that the description and photos of the property need updating as they do not reflect the current furniture and facilities, such as there is no dishwasher as advertised. The outside area needs attention as it looks poorly maintained. Should all these points be rectified it would give an accurate picture of the property.

“We had a great weeks stay at Ted's Place, lovely property in the heart of Whitby.”

Great location, car park 100 yards up the road which was about £10 a day but we were provided with scratchcards for on street parking. There were some lovely cafes and restaurants close by which was ideal for our stay. I would recommend the property and we were told the owner is planning to update the kitchen soon. We would definitely stay again if visiting the area.

“On arrival, the kitchen drawer front fell off onto my foot.”

The fridge door is broken. The oven had baked on dirt so didn't use it. The shower rail is falling off the tracks, couldn't use it due to arthritic hands being unable to lift it back on. The slats on the Bed base were broken leading to me falling through it and having to sleep on the floor, at 73 and disabled this was very unacceptable. Owner replaced the Bed base the next day. Bit of a disastrous week but location was good.

- Christine, September 2025

Hi this is the owner - soon as found out bed broke was there in 3 hours with brand new bed. Nothing was stated about the single bed. When cleaners went it this was broke which I replaced. The kitchen drawer referring too is under sink and isn’t a drawer. Recently taken on this cottage and kitchen although old and usable and is getting replaced in next 8 weeks. Hardly a disastrous week! Property Owner

Lovely stay though and had a good holiday.

“Firstly I tried to contact Yorkshire Cottages but no one answered the phone and after requesting a call back none was forthcoming.”

The website photographs need updating as they do not reflect the accommodation. Although well equipped there are issues that need addressing. The beds are so uncomfortable we all ended up with sore backs, saggy lumpy mattresses. We left a day early as we could not face another night. The toilet seat was loose and a gap in the seal around the shower base will cause mould growth if not dealt with. There is a broken window latch in the main bedroom. There is only one 3 seater setee so we all had to squeeze on it or sit on a dining chair. The outside area is also not as depicted in the photographs, very tired, paint peeling off the walls, not pleasant to sit in. The advert also states ample street parking. Not the case. I managed to find one on street 3 hour spot on one occasion & got a parking ticket as I exceeded the 3 hours by 15 minutes. The Silver Street car park ( bomb site) was £9 a day when you could find a spot. It was a nightmare. We will not return to Whitby & certainly not to Teds Place. I doubt you'll publish.
